By the time that was done, I decided that I was too tired and sweaty to make the 40min drive to my FLGS. (40 min drive from home, about a 7 min drive from work; I go there more often from work). Also, while the materials are free to the patrons of the store, I'm pretty sure that the stores have to buy in to get the "kit" of materials. Hence why some stores don't think it's worth it. I've heard it's well over 100 bucks too. One reason why I didn't mind purchasing the Hydra (something I've wanted anyways) today as part of my trip.

When I was in the Big CityTM , I used to go every year when I remembered to. I've been once or twice and not seen much I was interested in. Some of the shops here don't promote it, don't feel they need a gimmick to get customers in. It's not well promoted either, so if you were new or not a gamer and didn't hear about it online you wouldn't know it was even a thing. We had a game scheduled for today, so it didn't even come up. Plus the game room is closed and only 10 people allowed in the store at once. (Edit: I see our FLGS is offering "free" items with a $45 purchase. No thanks. I can get free items for free online.) Given the circumstances, I was going to search online for any free digital offerings. If anyone knows of anything good, please post. I will probably post a follow on question for Sunday about 3-4 *hours from now. And then @TaleSpinner should be back in the saddle Monday. *It is already Sunday in London and Manila (and everywhere in between those cities). 6

I created the world some know as The Misty Veil for my first campaign, the players starting off in the Garthalian Empire's border province of the Snarelands. The opening campaign was loosely based off of the Lost Mines of Phandelver, Phandalin being a town recently rejuvenated after the discovery of long lost dwarf mines. The Misty Veil is the first setting I've worked on and the only one so far. Edited July 26, 2020 by BadgersinMeadows

I let others who can actually keep the flow going and weave a good story for everyone at the table to actually do the DMing/GMing

I'm still building it even today, this is where Pezler the Polychromatic is originally from. Currently writing a three-part story about the origin of one of the countries, and Pezler does have a cameo in it.

My Pathfinder campaign is part of a self-created world that's been ongoing since D&D 3.0's early days. I love it, even though there's still so much work to do. My goal was to create an actual campaign reference book, complete with illustrations, house rules, etc. At this point, I've run several campaigns in the world setting, and several of them have had little Easter eggs for my wife to catch referencing prior campaigns.

Yes, I have. I did participate today. I can honestly see the whole thing going away in the future, though. I remember the first one I went to you could take one of everything if you wanted to. The past few years have gotten more and more restrictive. Two or three years ago, you could take 3 items, last year it was 2, yesterday you could take 1 and you could take another if you spent $50 in the store. I generally always spend some money in the store to support them, but having to spend $50 to get something that's supposed to be free is a little off putting, at least to me. Is it this way everywhere? 7 hours ago, TGP said: Sunday, July 26: World-building, from scratch, for RPGs— Do you like doing that? How many times have you done that? (Number of settings you have worked on…) If you never do that, what is your goto-default pre-made setting? Yes, I do enjoy it. I have done it once; it's still a work in progress. Although I guess it depends on how you look at it; I have a couple regions of a much larger world fully detailed, but there is nothing but thousands of miles of blank map between the two. So is that 2 settings or just 2 parts of a bigger whole? Default pre-made setting would be Greyhawk, simply because it's the one that I played in first. I enjoy playing in, and especially reading about, all of the different settings, though. If nothing else, it gives me ideas to steal and adapt for my own setting.

The last RPG I was involve in/invited to took place on my birthday in '97. AND I never heard of a free RPG Day. While it is not used for RPGing, I have developed my own charming although bizarre little world. It is a wonderfully satisfying way to escape reality.
TGP
Time to get on with it and answer my own questions... 19 hours ago, TGP said: Saturday, July 25: Have you participated in free RPG Day in past years; are you going to partake today or will you give it a miss? 1st part: I have. Twice maybe? This year I was out driving for other purposes (grocery pick-up) so I did a drive-past at an FGS that was not far out of my way. There were signs that said, “Free Comics Day” rather than Free RPG Day. Mask wearing by patrons was evident. Couldn’t tell if the store was crowded, number of cars in the car park looked more like a normal Wednesday than a Saturday. I gave it a miss this year. Or perhaps a near miss. 8 hours ago, TGP said: Sunday, July 26: World-building, from scratch, for RPGs— Do you like doing that? How many times have you done that? (Number of settings you have worked on…) If you never do that, what is your goto-default pre-made setting? —I must like creating these. —I have done it seven times that I can easily recall. —None of them were ever built out to a whole completed world with Pantheons, Alphabets, Languages, Histories, and all the things (but who among us is a language scholar and professor of literature with enough time to do that??) —If I don’t bother building anything I kind of do like @Chaoswolf and go with “...somewhere in Greyhawk...”. There are plenty of empty hexes on those maps. Edited July 26, 2020 by TGP

I used to use the Forgotten Realms when I wasn't running my own world, but now I mostly just stick to my own under developed Basic D&D game world that liberally steals from just about anything that catches my fancy, and my slightly better developed 5e game world.
