July 4: What is your favorite thing about living where you do?

I'm with the hamster on this one. Everything is nearby. I can walk to places. The subway takes me to the places I can't walk to. The city is old enough that it's hauntings have overcrowded and the most annoying ghosts have elfed off already. I have a job here that pays well enough for me to live where I do. Despite the East Coast nature of this city it's slowly gaining more food types and I get to eat them aaaaaaaall!

At least out here on the east coast of Canada, the vast majority of people never put their normal everyday car in the garage.  Garages are for bicycles, firewood, lawnmowers, snowblowers, jet skis, motorcycles, special cars, tires, tools, kids toys, etc.  But not your everyday car...

Not really sure why, but its how I was raised.  We have a two car garage, but all 4 cars are in the driveway.....  my summer car goes into the garage for winter storage, but that's generally the only time.  I might take the cars in the change tires in the fall if I have it cleaned up enough, before storing the summer car.

That seems to be pretty common here too. My wife and I are freaks in that both of our vehicles are in the garage most of the time and very little extra stuff packed around them.

Decent people for the most part and pretty scenery.

  • I love my large patio door facing southward. I get plenty of sunlight.
  • Though I live in a northern area, it's pretty dry, so the weather is usually quite bearable.
  • Nearly every basic service/utility is within walking distance (even if I don't use them). Grocery store, hardware store, general store, pharmacy, hospital, city hall, library, theatre, gym, liquor store, pizzeria.

My favourite thing? Hmmm, tough call.

So instead I'll go with being only a 35-40 minute walk from the local observatory, because I'm actually not fond of living in an apartment, just off of downtown, in a part of the city that kinda sucks.

And I'd rather live somewhere other than Edmonton, like say Calgary, a city which has its problems but at least their transit doesn't keep getting messed up by suits who've never ridden it - who takes the old schedule of 5-6 minutes in between transfers and makes it less than a minute under optimal conditions?

July 3: What job/chore do you dread having to do?

Gardening. I hate gardening and mowing the lawn, but gardening especially.

I really hate being a homeowner and having a yard...

Question for July 3, sorry US based today, Are you planning on finding someplace doing fireworks this year?

I had no plans; made no plans. The fireworks came to me. It sounded like there was a company level infantry skirmish going on all around the house for a few hours last night.

Luckily I am not a dog... :upside:

I did tune in my TV and look at some fireworks. It was semi-live from NY, produced by Macy’s/NBC, and massively overproduced. I kept muting the sound because I didn’t  want music to drown out the bombs bursting in mid-air.

It’s home?

I might try some other places if I had the wealth to do so.

My family. It is seriously the only thing that kept me from deciding to pack up and move away somewhere as I was driving home yesterday.
