Share your paint...get a new painter involved

Recommended Posts

This sounds crazy I know but It's fun!

WOOHOO>>>I finally got around to switching all my paint pots into the great dropper bottles I got from Western Plastics (Like the vallejo bottles) and after this was done and they had sat I saw there was some paint left in the pots.

Did I want to redo that whole process again to drain them it took up half of my day already... NO!

So, I figured I'd give them to a friend who just started painting and had only basic colors ..Talk about happy..He flipped.. :bday:

This gives the newer painter time to aquire paints one at a time and have more to work with...

BONUS..it cleaned up my paint station ::D:

The tip ...I learned in this process is if you add a drop of flow aide to the pot before you switch them it's tons easier and my paint mixing has been so much better..

Always share it makes your day better! ^_^

I find sometimes people don't enjoy painting because the methods they use make it harder. Teach them a few tricks that make painting easier (like thinning their paint) and the enjoyment factor goes way up.

He also might feel you are implying he doesn't do it very well by offering to "help".

Might be more productive to say, "Yeah, painting by yourself is dull. It is much more interesting if you are with someone else".

I paint with my son, and it can be a lot of fun to spend time with a kid that way.

I has some minis that were lackluster in sculpt in my unpainted mini collection. I pulled out my paints one night when my second cousin was over and was painting minis. I handed her some brushes, a pallet and the minis I had selected. I told her to go to it! Dang she was good! I told her that if she wanted to learn more to let me know. Best of all she got to take the minis home and her Mother (My cousin) thought it was great that her daughter had someone to do artwork with! ::D:

Yeah, I want to do that with someone. Passing on skills like that is a wonderful thing to do.

I have been thinking of scoring the Vallejo Model and Game color collections (~600 bucks in paint) and donating my Reaper paints to a truly deserving soul.

Now I need the 600 bucks and a deserving soul...

Why don't you start a painting workshop at your LGS? Keep your reapers so you have paints for other people to use, or donate them to the store and have the owner keep them on hand for newbies. If you have a bunch of unpainted lead, prime some up and have them for people to get started with.

Oh, wait a minute, that's how I got started in all this...

My brother gave me a bunch of figs and I had a bunch of paint, hated painting by myself, and started a weekly painting workshop. Then I got involved in Black Lightning, and it snowballed from there...

Still, getting others into the hobby has been a blast. Just don't expect to get much of your own painting done while you are teaching.

Hehe... You haven't heard me ranting about the woefully poor situations at the LGS near my house.

One is a GW store. GW or get the heck out.

One is geared to 'family' games, and the RPGs are upstairs and hard to get to.

The third is a fairly interesting place. But when the staff is playing Diablo 2 when I want to make a purchase, it makes me not want to make a purchase...

...and I haven't even gotten into the odors of these places.
