Lidless Eye Hobbies: First Resin 3D Printed Miniatures

Recommended Posts

I figured I'd do one mega-gallery of the first of my resin 3D printed miniatures.  All are done on an Elegoo Mars.

Oni Kyojin from Artisan Guild.  My first printed, as they were pre-supported.

Rangers of Shadow Deep: Incinerator left me with a hankering for an old-school Ogre.  This guy is not really a Heroquest Ogre but a 3D print from a scan of one.

Love Fabio's style for Warforged. Shame he has to set aside his Patreon for a undetermined amount of time due to some personal issues he has to work through. Hey, I totally spaced off the Lost Dragons KS!! I'll need a Dragonborn general type for a future adventure.

Awesome work on all of them. Your paintwork really brings them to life.

Congrats on succesful prints!

Love them, you did a good job on all of them.

I'm a big fan of the Artisan Guild stuff ( became a Patreon) I have the Oni Set as well, painted a few, and now I'm totally going to steal your colours for one of them for sure.

The Orcs are lovely as well.

Those zombies look great, keep it up!

So, first off, sorry if this is in the wrong category. Wasn’t sure which one to put it in, so.... Here it is.

As I’ve been painting for a while, the thought of “hey, maybe I should print my own minis” popped into my head. I pursued this thought a while, and then determined that yeah,  I should probably go ask the professionals. So, here I am, rapid-firing questions like a nitwit.

First of all, what are some of the pros and cons? It would seem that it’d be cheaper in the long haul, but don’t you have to buy the 3D model as well? (But MF, you could finally make those minis you’ve made in your spare time on Hero Forge.......)... What are some of y’all’s pros and cons?

Second off, what printer? From my research, it seems that resin provides the most detail, but is more expensive, so I’d like to avoid it if at all possible. I’ve heard that the Creality Ender 3 seems to be best for the rookie on a budget (which I am in the largest sense of the word), but is it really?

Lastly, is it actually worth it in the end? In both the regards of pleasure with the final product and economically?

All thoughts and advice is needed and appreciated! Thanks, all!

Finishing up the last few, here's miniatures that didn't belong with the others.

      Cyclops Spearmaiden from Massive Darkness:

Totally a Redcap and not a dwarf as labelled, from Massive Darkness:

"Sister Lana, Healer" from Reaper Miniatures:

An unknown Gladiatrix, possibly West Wind, acquired during the travels of the Reaper Box of Goodwill:

Finished after a few delays from a project started in...December 2019, woops, are some more female residents of Frostgrave.  All are from the official range from North Star Miniatures, other than two metal minis they are all built from the Frostgrave Soldiers II and Frostgrave Wizards II boxed sets, though they may have a few accessories from elsewhere (and the Cultists from the Frostgrave Cultists kit.

The two metals: a Barbarian Apothecary and Barbarian Apprentice.

      The Cultists:

      Just plain Thieves:

      Obviously Wizards:

      K'ren, Slayer of Managers:

      A hero type:

Those who could pass as Townsfolk: a Mule/Porter, an Arcanist/Old Woman, Town Cryer, local guide, and Apothecary/Potion Vendor.

"All fear Mumlak, Living God-Chief of the Erithereans!"

A steal at $24.99 from Reaper for the size this guy came out at:

Latest in my collection of "Finish stuff you just had details left on" come Bufo the Frogman and Torlan the Gatorfolk from Reaper Miniatures.  I felt they needed to be painted as a pair as Mr. Wiebe said he designed them as a pair to fill in the request for Dreadmere's more unusual inhabitants.
