Magnifiers For Painting-Recommendations?

I'm curious.

How close do you have to hold the miniature to your face with 5x magnification?

I know MagEyes are a different design., but with my 2.25x OptiVisor, it's already pretty close.

MagEyes doesn't have a 5x lens on their website.  The highest is 2.75x with a working distance of 4" to 7".

The Optivisor has a maximum of 3.5x and a focal length of 4".  I own this set, and with my glasses, the working distance is 3-4 inches.

I may be mistaken then. It came w 3 lenses and I use the strongest. I’ll have to check to see if there are markings on the lens and get back to y’all.

I use this.

Lightcraft Headband Magnifier.

It works for me, under $20/€20 on most sites like the River or the Evilbay..

There is an option to apply a headband as well ( included) comes with 5 lenses.

There are several others like this.

I had a cheaper one earlier which worked for 3 years but it had a plastic headband ( uncomfortable) and that broke at one point.

Before splashing on a expensive one I would recommend this or a similar one.

I use this same one, found it on Amazon for $12. I have no issues wearing it with the headband over my eyeglasses.

This is the one I use. Heck, I'm glad I bought it when I did as my eyes have went downhill as far as detail stuff.

I think if I didn't have these I prob wouldn't be doing anything hobby related. I need to get my eyes checked but with COVID who knows when that'll happen.

I use the headband option. The nose piece is about the only discomfort I feel & even then that is after a long session using them.

I have one of these.  I don't use it much.  Not because it doesn't magnify nicely.  I find that even with the band at full size it presses so hard on the bridge of my nose that it gets uncomfortable quickly for me.  But, that may be because I had broken my nose some years ago.
