the scale of decent miniatures

Wanted to pick up the decent board game because of the miniatures but I wasn't sure about their scale, I've heard they where 1/72 scale and I've also heard that they where a bit on the bigger side so I was wondering if anyone could post some pics so I can see the size comparison between the decent minis and other lines of miniatures.

You might want to hold off if you haven't committed just yet.  There's a new edition or some sort of revision coming out "soon" (I'm not sure when).  We're going from Journeys in the Dark to Legends of the Dark.

I only have the core, the dragon, and one of the other (human?) bad guys.  I don't know about the other sets, but the PCs seemed on the small side.  One thing about the Descent minis is that they're all on bases.  That will help give some scale.

25mm, so on the small side compared to, say, Reaper Bones.

I didn't think much about the miniatures when I painted them. Some lacked details (eg. Goblin Archers) and quality isn't as good as Bones. After the core set, FFG released mini's with better details, so expect better with the new edition. If you're getting a really good deal (eg. trade for someone's collection), sure, go ahead. If you can wait, Massive Darkness 2 starts in early August.

If you're just looking for the miniatures, the Hero and Monster packs aren't a bad deal.

There are nine of them, and honestly they contain some of the more interesting figures in the game, at a lower price than the boxed expansions.

Lets you pick and choose a bit more, too.

In my campaign, I play with a lot of Descent and Reaper mixed together.  The thing about Descent is that the scale fluctuates a lot within the game itself!  For instance, the Dwarf Krutzbeck is arguably twice as big as the dwarf from the core box (Grisbane the Thirsty).  I guess Reaper sees a bit of size creep back and forth too, but if scale is important to you then Descent might not be your thing.

Also, some of the monsters feel a bit small for what they are.  I mean, Reaper gets criticized for how small their giants are sometimes, but they still dwarf the Descent 2E giants.
