Errex
There is something that is oft overlooked when attaching pieces on a mini. If you sand slightly the contact surfaces, you get a much stronger bond when usin superglue. Very often, it is enough on those hard to pin small parts. Same applies to the actual pinning. If you sand, or simply run a hobby knife along the rod, the chances it gets better achored are better.
FuzzyIzmit
what kind of glue should you use when you dont want to pin a mini together? super glue? JB weld?....
The Shine
I use super glue for this.
Death Angel
I use super glue. And I pin anything that doesn't look stable, has a reasonable amount of weight in it or sticks out a fair amount. I would rather spend the time pinning it in place before I take 20-30 hours to paint it than having to re-attach and repair it later. Saves a lot of heartache IMO. brianlojeck
Here's a pinning question for you. I'm working on another diorama (I'm a frustrated diorama-maker since it seems my gaming days are pretty much ended, and I like the painting.) it's a tavern scene. I made the floor by glueing squarish toothpicks to a cardboard backing (it fell apart since I left it in my to-do box for years, so I'll have to make it again), and cut the bases off of the figures. Most of the figures are not an issue, they are sitting, or I can drill through their heels into their calves. The dancing girls, however, are some nicely done Ral Partha's, and they are standing on their toes. They are typical undersized RP figures, so there isn't much meat there. Any suggestions for attaching them? would the miniscule amount of drilling I could do be sufficient for any kind of pinning? or did I goof real bad? ;-) thanks... Cerridwyn1st
Jen Haley said she used dressmaker's pins for pinning minis. The wire is very strong and thin. Use a super-fine drill bit to drill the minis. That should give you something both small enough and strong enough to hold the dancing girls in place. I pin a lot of my stuff, even small things. Thanks to Errex for the tip on "roughing up" the surface to be glued to make it stick better.
