I probably would have taken more classes if I didn’t have a tiny feral human that needs to be part of everything I do

There really have been cases of feral humans.  (Sephy is no such thing!  you haven't left her with wolves for babysitting and she knows what remotes are for!)

I’m pretty sure there is a comments and suggestion thread in the reapercon section, so if people do want them to be seen, they can post there as well. There’s no harm in folks posting their thoughts here, though.

I think they said they preferred having all the feedback in one place on "the discord" (but since they have two discords I am honestly not sure which of the two).

It would be nice if all these comments on Reaper Con online were in their own thread. Otherwise they will just be lost.

Obviously, they'd rather just check one place rather than half-a-dozen. The place @Reaper_Jon chose in this instance (RCon) is discord.

This thread's real purpose is to learn about each other's likes/dislikes/foibles/failings and the occasional bad habit….

Anyways, "Thirty Days Hath September…" and there are 22 left for inquiries on other topics.

Query for Sept. 9th:

Do you typically paint your figures just like the manufacturer sample, (i.e. the box art), or do you get creative?

There's box art?

[checks a few boxes] So there is. No, I've never followed box art or official color schemes or army-standard colors. Nobody ever taught me that I should.

I tended to do everything using the box art as a frame of reference, but I'm starting to put my own touches on things to make them more unique.

If I'm particularly stumped about colors I will. Usually though, I make up my own color scheme.

I paint them how they end up mostly....

Sometimes they may resemble the art, more often than not though they resemble a blob of randomly coloured paints

Depends. For something like Lord of the Rings figures I'll follow the color schemes from the movies and box art because I figure that the films hit the mark in that area. Since I'm concentrating on painting armies of Witch Hunters/Nuns, Witches, and Undead, I already have a solid idea of what I want them to look like and it's merely a matter of keeping with my chosen colors/themes for each. With my Coffee Dwarves it's merely a matter of keeping with Maxwell House colors, orange, blue, and white, and finding a way to get all three to play nicely together on the mini.

Sometimes box art fits in with my ideas, sometimes it does not, but in general I tend to follow what I consider to be the "classic" look wherever possible, along with a certain "plausible realism" which may not be strictly historically accurate, but is enough to ground somewhat the more fantastical elements.

Last of the RCon questions...

Queries for Sept. 8th:

For those that gave Virtual ReaperCon a try: What new things did you learn?  Did you increase any skills? Is an event like this something you would do again?

I'm currently trying to replicate the OSL from David Diamondstones class, Mochas skin tone one and Anne's classes were awesome as always. I'll be slowly working through all the Twitch content, especially the Airbrush and TMM one.

I'm not sure if I've leveled up yet, but I'm certainly having fun with it :poke:

It depends, if it's the paint job that's initially attracted me to the mini then I'll certainly try and replicate it. Heck, I've been (unsuccessfully) trying to replicate Angel Giraldez's Infinity minis for years ::D: Otherwise, it's usually down to wanting to try out some new paint or needing a particularly painted mini for Pathfinder.

There's also the little problem that I instinctively want to paint every Dragon as a Red <_< I have no idea why, it just seems to be my default Dragon colour, they just look better that way to me

Were you exposed to the 1977 Hobbit animated film at an impressionable age?

If so, this may have stuck with you.

My own default for dragons is due to the record and booklet set from the film...

No. No no no no no no no no no no no! (if you read this in an XT-002 voice for temper tantrum, congrats, you're someone who used to raid Ulduar).  Nope. I never do such a thing.  Studio paint jobs are just that - studio paint jobs.  There are tons of ways a mini can be painted, so why would I restrict myself to just copying their scheme?

Way too many people in tabletop games will go with the studio paint job not because of fluff, or lore, but because it's the studio paint job.  It's kind of why I raise an eyebrow towards some aspects of the hobby, where some feel the only way to do something is to replicate every last detail of something. Don't get me wrong, I love the skill and dedication they put in, I just don't get it myself.

It's a creative hobby, so naturally I prefer going my own route, even if it means having to redo some things on occasion because they didn't quite oan out...

Nope! Thou unless the figure was says Tanis or Tasselhoff from Dragonlance or other named characters I'm wanting to replicate then sure, but overall a big no.

I'm most likely to look at the box art, appreciate it, and then decide that's way beyond my abilities and just do my own thing.

My eyes are not what they were. The box art/gaming cards are a great way of figuring out what those unidentifiable lumps are.

I invariably do things in my own color scheme. The art sometimes gives me ideas for variants.
