Weekend Queries for Sept. 12 and 13:

12. Are there TV shows or movies, that you have seen, where you now only remember one stunning or thrilling scene, but not the plot, or the title of the film?

13. Can you describe the scene(s)??

I pretty much remember where every scene is from.

This. I am an encyclopedia for movie scenes and quotes, and my first job being at a movie theater only fueled it. (For the youngsters, an encyclopedia is like Wikipedia, only in book form.)

One really great example was the bar scene in Star Wars 4. I totally thought it was a dream, until I saw the whole movie when I was a teenager.

You only saw it completely when you were a teenager? You poor soul...

Probably, but thanks to The Google, I can usually figure it out rather quickly.

That did happen to me this week. Thus the inspiration for the question. At this point I am unable to to even remember the scene in question. Something triggered the memory but I can't find the correct fuse to trigger it again.  Wibbley Wobbly Rememberey ::(: This is a different one:

SCENE 1:  A ruined city. Difficult to tell what tech level or epoch. Our protagonist(s), whoever they might have been, are cautiously exploring. They spot a thing coming their way. It is a robot. Blinking lights, waving antenna. It is a hover robot and it makes a steady air whooshing/whirring noise as it closes in. It is shaped like a chess bishop. The wide base at the bottom is the hovercraft-like skirt. But it manages to avoid kicking up much dust. The top of it, where a bishop would have a mitre, is more like a gun turret. The turret traverses back and forth as if it is on a seek and destroy mission. The characters succeed at hiding from it, and later follow it back to its base or lair.

  • It is a childhood memory
  • The animation was different from typical Hanna/Barberra
  • The backgrounds were nicer? maybe painted watercolour
  • If I could remember who was dodging the robot I could maybe remember where it is from.

If I have seen a movie, musical, play, or such, especially if I liked it, I will remember THE WHOLE thing...usually with some quotes.

You know that one movie where those guys were doing that thing, and something or other happened, and this other stuff, or something?  I don't remember the name of it.  Half of the time I don't remember what movie we are going to see by the time the pre-show, ads, previews and opening credits roll in the theater.

Query for September 11th:

How often do you visit skyscrapers? Have you ever had a job located in one?

Just one- Peach Tree Tower in Atlanta for the 1992 Peach Bowl.  Buddy of mine scored tickets off a mutual former classmate.  I think her parents had rented a room on the 30th floor or thereabouts.  I got a good look of the city out the window wall when the gin and juice fueled vertigo kicked in, so I promptly walked across the room to "have a seat". I can say though that she was looking 10/10 in her black skintight miniskirt that night.

Oh yeah, there are some, especially including a, uh, uhm, "movie" that had.... Uhm... I'll call them "energy vampires".  And then there was weird kind of REDACTED and... Unlike Rocky Horror Picture Show, alcohol did not have it make more sense.

Seriously don't remember the title, but boy was it a messed up version of REDACTED.  It was anime though.

There is another "movie" that comes to mind, but since I know the title, it's disqualified.  Terrible parody of a good Disney movie, and absolutely terrible plot, terrible acting, horrible lines.  Drinking did make it funnier, sort of. Not really. It was still terrible, but JagerBombs are somehow tastier when it's an atrocious movie your roommates are watching.

I am not describing scenes from either of the movies I mentioned. Nope, nope, not. At. All.

I mean, I was a teenager in the 90s. So, you know, not too long. My dad didn’t buy a VCR until DVDs were invented, so I had to wait to watch it on cable TV.

That's fair enough, but I was also a teenager in the 90s (for four years of it anyways). I guess I benefited from having four older siblings, so we had a VCR for a while (probably a trade-off, since we didn't have cable TV). I watched those movies so much that I wore out a set of VHS tapes and we had to buy new ones.

And these were the original set, before they got changed... you know, the ones where Solo shot first.

I'm usually pretty good at remembering the whole movie, although I might not remember the name or the names of the actors in it....names aren't my thing.....

There are some action movies from the 80s where I can remember specific scenes but no longer have any idea which Schwarzenegger/Stallone/Van Damme/Norris/etc movie it is any more.  There were way too many and they all kind of blur together now.....

So, scene one was the animated mystery robots. MAaaaaybe it was from a Hanna Barbera thing called "The Herculoids".

Scene 2 was from a movie. A D-movie. About two steps below a B-movie. It had:

Flying, battling space galleons (except one of them looked like a slave driven galley…oars  and all). The other one had a giant auger for a nosecone. These things fought each other in the sky over a mountain range. Inside the mountains was a super secret base with prisoners in cells, guards! guards! guards! everywhere (who could not shoot their way out of their brightly colored jumpsuits for love or money), falling debris clearly made of bouncy styrofoam, and some heroes who had a guy in a Not-At-All Wookie suit wielding a glowing blue battleaxe tagging along. None of that was the main action. The ship battle was where it was at. The Oars ship used them as laser-zap-barrels. The Auger ship fired that auger like a missile, which narrowly missed Oars ship but crashed into part of the mountain side (and you guessed it) half wrecking the base.

I never figured out which ship was the good guys.
