So last weekend I never got the numbers of the days correct. The first attempt had it "…11, 12, 12, 13…" as quoted by Chaoswolf. I noticed something was not right and I attempted to fix it and came up with: "…11, 12, 11, 12…" that was the version Malefactus quoted.

I can't count. ::(:

I think we're all having trouble keeping track of what day of the week it is. Don't worry about it.

Query for Sept. 15:

What song cover/remix do you enjoy? Do you like it better than the original?

I'm not a fan of remixes. I can't think of a single remix I like better than the original. Covers on the other hand I can like. There are a lot of good singers out there doing cover songs which I like as much as or more than the originals. Boyce Avenue does a bunch. Sershin & Zaritskaya have a few I really like plus she's easy on the eyes. There's others too.

Rob Zombie - Dragula (Hot Rod Herman Remix) comes to mind. Original song sucks terribly by comparison... In fact I can't listen to the original, I honestly can't stand it. I can stand it more than Nickelback's Photograph, but that's a lowwwwwww bar.

Another comes to mind, but it's Dutch, and chock full of swears. Yeah, they're swears in Dutch, but swears nonetheless. It's from the gabber Amsterdam vs Rotterdam kind of rivalry.  At least that's what I've been told. Very loosely translated, it comes across as "Amsterdam? What's that? Never heard of it.." but we're taking a few liberties by writing it that way....

Come to think of it, I also prefer these over the originals...

Noisia - Machine Gun (16bit remix)

Jakarta - One Desire (Mondotek Remix)

Angelspit - Kill Kitty (KMDFM Remix)

Suicide Commando - My Blasphemy (Die Sektor Remix)

Funker Vogt - Genozid (FGFC820 Remix)

There's probably more I could find with a bit more looking, but I'm tired, and that seems like enough...

I Drove All Night, as remixed by Celine Dion. So, Roy Orbison did the original version of this song, and he sang it well. I enjoy that version. Then Rod Stewart (imagine me saying that with deepest contempt and disgust) made one of the worst covers of it in the history of covers. Nearly ruined it for all time. Then Cyndi Lauper cape along and saved it. Her cover I like as well as Roy Orbison’s original.

But Celine Dion’s cover I like best, probably because I heard it first, but also because it’s fast paced and sexy. I can imagine Bugatti using it for a, well, not a commercial, but a short film to inspire desire in the hearts of all us poor fools who can’t afford their ridiculous cars.

Well I'm a big fan of Motörhead and they released a cover album

I loved them all.

Hmmm..

Collide - These Eyes Before (cover album)
Collide - The Lunatics have taken over the Asylum

Within Temptation - The Q Music Sessions (cover album)

Angelzoom - Crawling

Tori Amos - Raining Blood

I'm pretty sure that's not all of them, but they're all the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

"Walk this way" by Run DMC (org done by Aerosmith)

Oddly I heard that version first before the original. Same with this songs

"Cum On Feel the Noize" by Quiet Riot (org done by Slade)

I like Johnny Cash's version of Hurt, but I've never heard the original so I can't say if it's better.

Reznor's version is ok, but it doesn't have the same feel to it, like Johnny put into his version.

there are a number of covers I prefer to the original

Sound of Silence by disturbed

Hurt by Johnny Cash

Sky Scrapers - Lindsey Stirling

Radioactive by Lindsey Stirling   -  I waffle on, sometimes I want the original sometimes, the new.

Diggy Diggy Hole by Wind Rose  -   "" ""

Hurt is probably the best, it changes the meaning of the song deeply, while altering none of the words.

it really goes from a young man with a drug habit, to a man at the end of a long life, who has outlived everyone he cared about.

the familiar sting of the needle is more likely insulin than heroin.

I'm not generally much on remixes, although Linkin Park has some of their own songs (with collaborators) that are good. The whole Reanimation album...

I enjoy covers, if they are well done and particularly if they really make it their own.

When I was young there were ones that I didn't realize were covers, so will always prefer the version I knew first.

Quiet Riot's version of  "Cum On Feel the Noize" and Judas Priest's version of "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)" come to mind.

My favorites have already been mentioned:

Disturb's version of "The Sound of Silence"

Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt"

I new and liked both song before, but these versions are so powerful, so full of emotion, that they really take the song and make it their own.

Currently the only one I hear regularly is a version of "Closer" as done by In This Moment, since it pops up on Amazon Music regularly (I'll put a band on in the background while working on painting).  A Female vocalist certainly changes the feel of that song.....

I haven't been able to hear music in quite a long time...at least 25 or so years. Remixes are not something with which I am familiar.
