Any good and affordable Leonin minis?

Recommended Posts

With Theros out, I've been looking for more Leonin mini options.  I prefer plastic over metal/resin simply because I can afford more of it.  Anyone got any leads on some good leonin minis?  Or big-cat inspired catfolk in general as opposed to the domesticated cat-folk type.

It looks like I would have been set if I was looking for these a few years ago when every online store had Alkemy on clearance, but now that game is just a bit too costly for the number of minis I'd get.

Guess I'll compile some links in case anyone else is looking for some Lionfolk.

Please feel free to add more suggestions.  We're finally starting to see more cat-folk options especially in affordable plastics, but they're mostly of the lanky, long-haired variety.  Would be nice to get some better options for the beefier bunch of cats.  I've compiled a bunch of the options I've found.

Warrior Lions
Walking Avatar, Nefsokar Monster - Metal (Egyptian-themed Lion man warrior)
https://www.reapermini.com/search/lion/latest/14102

Avatar of Sekhmet - Reaper Bones (same as above but bones)

https://www.reapermini.com/search/lion/latest/77340

Lion Man - Metal (Lightly armored Lion man warrior - a very good option)
https://www.reapermini.com/search/lion/latest/02880

Chosen of Sekhmet - Metal (Egyptian-themed Lioness warrior - good option)
https://www.reapermini.com/search/lion/latest/14513

Daughter of Sekhmet - Metal (Egyptian-themed Lioness warrior - good option)

https://www.reapermini.com/search/lion/latest/14510

Avatar of Courage - Reaper Bones (Tribal Lion man warrior - goofy sculpt)
https://www.reapermini.com/search/lion/latest/77623

Leonin Swiftclaw - D&D Pre-Paints (Robed Lion-man Warrior)

Leonin Iconoclast - D&D Pre-Paints (Robed Lioness spellcaster)

Alkemy - Khaliman Republic (Entire faction of Pseudo-Egyptian Lion and Catfolk Warriors - hard to find in the US and can be pretty pricey)

Other Big-Cat Options

Sabertooth Tiger Man - Metal (Sabertooth Tiger man Warrior - another good option)

https://www.reapermini.com/search/tiger/latest/02785

Cheetah Girl - Metal (Short-haired cat-folk woman with bow - could pass as a lioness)

https://www.reapermini.com/search/tiger/latest/02910

Weretiger - Nolzur's Unpainted (Tiger Man with bow)

3D-Print Options (I don't have a 3D printer, but hopefully this helps someone)
Lion Collection - RG Sculpt (5 Lion Men - 3 warriors, 1 spellcaster, 1 paladin)

Tabaxi Paladin - Amini 3D (Heavily armored Lion man Paladin)

Lioness Harem (A handful of nude/feral lion-women... not useful for me but possibly someone else)
Children of the Zodiac - Leo - Metal (Nude Lioness with draped blanket)
https://www.reapermini.com/search/tiger/latest/03344

Cleo, Weretiger - Metal (Nude, Feral cat-woman standing in attack pose)
https://www.reapermini.com/search/tiger/latest/02575

Cleo, Weretiger - Metal (Nude, Feral cat-woman crouched on all-fours)

https://www.reapermini.com/search/tiger/latest/02140

There was a game put out by Monte Cooke (I think) that had lion-men as well as some sort of giant.  I want to say that Ral Partha made minis for it.  I have one of the giants at home and can try and see what I can find.  At work so don't have access to any of my normal sources.

Crocodile Games has a entire feline army faction (Basti). You might find something in there. There are a few in the latest D&D prepainted set (Theros).

The game was Arcana Unearthed and the mini manufacturer was Iron Wind Metals.  The race was called Litorians and there seem to have been at least 5 sculpts (3 male and 2 female).  They don't seem to be in production anymore but there are some low quality pictures on Noble Knight.

You're going to have to remove any links to retail stores that aren't to Reaper's own website. Forum policy.

Thanks!  Been trying to learn all the forum rules, but there's a lot.

Artisan Guild is going to release 3D print files for Rakshasa and Djinn in September.

Tabaxi and other catfol files can be found on MyminiFactory from several companies.

Not physical models, but maybe of use for some.

This thread might be worth looking through:  https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/78286-male-cat-manmen/

Another old thread: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/59302-whos-making-good-catfolk-minis/

Again: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/46272-catfolk-i-need-one-for-a-game/

And: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/38106-looking-for-cat-people-minis/

Some of these figures or companies might be out of production, but at least you know what to look for in 2nd hand stores on the web, or at auction sites.

Good news! Iron Wind still sells the Litorians and they have 6 of them!! 4 male and 2 female.

Just search for Litorian.

They also have the following, which I found by searching for cat.

DF-444 Cat Burglar (which looks like an anthropomorphic cat).

DF-597 Greater Cat Lord with Sword (which looks like a Lion man in plate).

I searched for lion and found:

01-039 Lion Centaurs (2)

I searched for tiger and found:

01-003 Weretiger

This is a pretty awesome Julie Guthrie figure that has been in my paint queue for years.  Was having trouble finishing it, but found inspiration over the weekend.

This is my second entry into the Reaper Facebook Convert and Paint contest. I wanted to do this one because I love doing dragonman (dragonborn) conversions. There just aren't enough kinds of dragonmen to model for various character classes. And I'm glad that the catfolk minis came out within the last year because when I think about dragonmen, I like to see their clawed hands and feet, so it makes them great for such a conversion in my eyes.

These were the minis used for parts, including pieces from the dragonman conversion kit: 03457.

Poor Shadoweyes got her head and tail cut off.  Then I had to do some filing and filling to smooth out the cuts (particularly in the back because the tail was sculpted against the backs of the right leg and sword) and some of the fur pattern on her arms and legs. Also had to create small bit armor at the base of the tail so the pieces flowed together well. All Captain Razig lost was his hat and added a head and tail from the conversion kit.

Originally, she was going to be green with dark purple/red armor.  But after I got the original base coats on, I felt she looked too much like a lizard and not a dragon, so I switched it up.

She ended up being the winner.  I was shocked. I figured I might place, but pretty as she is, I didn't think this was one of my better pieces. But she was fun to do and I'm glad the Reaper folks put together this event.

And now, because I still feel bad about chopping off Shadoweyes' head, I'm using a portion of the winnings to buy another one to paint!

My PCs are all grown up, and I needed someone new. When I saw this mini, I knew she would be mine.

My most recently complete project is the lovely ladies of Oathsworn Miniature's "Heroines in Sensible Shoes 3" Kickstarter.

As always, they are a joy to paint.  They have nice, bold details but without being overwrought.  They definitely look like a bunch of starting adventurers!  The theme this time was more exotic races, notably a bunch from "Volo's Guide to Monsters"

      The ladies ascend the mountain:

The Kitsune.  She could be a lightly armored Fighter, a Rogue, or a Ranger.

The Kenku (or Tengu) Shaman.  Or Wizard.  Or Sorcerer.  Or whatever.  She's got a bone to pick with you!

The Kenku or Tengu Rogue.  I went with oranges for them to continue my previous work on the Bones Tengu...which were also dressed in orange to match the official D&D pre-paints.

The Dragonborn, could be a Fighter or Paladin.  The decision to make her red was regrettable...with that pointy face and dreads, I kept thinking of Ugandan Warrior Knuckles.  Stupid memes getting in the way!

Tabaxi or Catfolk.  I tried to go with more of a Ranger color scheme than the intended Rogue.

The other Tabaxi/Catfolk from the set.  I liked the intent of this sculpt...she could be a spellcaster, a Monk, or a Bard!

      The Halfling Knight.

Her mount was painted after my own painting gremlin, Hershey.  He would be much smaller to scale, though.

The Tiefling Paladin.  I really like the pose of this one, though I questioned the hooves, as 4E and 5E Tieflings of this design have human feet.  I may wind up greenstuffing her into boots at some point.

The Firbolg Druid.  As far as I know, this is the only miniature of a 5E style Firbolg.

The Minotaur Swashbuckler.  I bet you were expecting a cow joke here.

      The terrain:

I recently got in the latest "Heroines in Sensible Shoes" Kickstarter from Oathsworn Miniatures.  I decided to get started on them and take (yet another) break from my in progress Rising Sun minis.

As \always, they were nice, clean casts with lots of detail, but nothing over-wrought...which makes sense for low-level adventurers!  They're such a joy to paint.
