I can't say it's always humidity.

I had a can of black and a can of white primer I bought at the same time. Both Citadel.

Black went on smooth and beautiful. White ended up like the white spray flock you spray on Christmas trees. Used black first on one mini, white right after one a different mini. Same day, time, location.

I've heard that if primer gets frozen during shipping it does weird stuff.

I have had problems with my spray primer. At first I would put the minis on the floor with paper hand spray over them and ofcourse not holding the can upright wich screwed up my priming.

Nowdays I hold them upright in my hand with a cheap wallmart plasic glove and spray them each this gets great coverage because you can shift them mini and get to all of those hard to reach areas.

Now lately we have had monsoon and after a day of rain and tried priming and a few of my minis turned out looking really grainy and so now I wont prime if it is high in humidity.

I *always* have dusty primer problem with GW White. I'm usually ok with GW black. I use Tamiya White, which seems to work for me these days, and I use white vallejo brush on primer to cover up anything I may have missed.

yeah, Menqu! I like Tami Fine, too. It doesn't get grainy, ever. I've also tried Floquil lately, for the simple reason that my FLGS carries it. The hobby shop with Tamiya seems to have run out, they haven't had any when I've been there.

Flynn, if you want to try Tamiya Fine Primer, you have to go to a hobby store. Tamiya makes historical models, like tanks and things. I think they make cars, too. So you will find the Tamiya products in a hobby store that carries these products. Most gaming stores don't have the stuff.

Floquil is just a little cheaper, is usually carried by gaming stores, and has just a little more tooth than Tamiya. Either or is fine in my book.

For stuff I'm really putting a lot of detail into, I'm leaning more now towards brush on primer. Anne kept coming by and bumming my Reaper brush-on primer at Origins. I figure, anything good enough for her is good enough for me. ::):

LadyStorm, have you had any bubbles with your brush on primer? Do you have any method you use to prevent this?

That's where I've been going. They don't seem to carry it here.

The game stores around here don't have the Floquil stuff either. Just crappy Citadel and Armoury stuff.

I'm sorry about that, Flynn. Where do you live?

A friend of mine swears by Plaid metal mediuim. That stuff you can get at Michael's. Only problem is it's clear, and if you want a white or black "base" to paint on, it isn't that helpful.

Like I said, on my really delicate stuff, where I want good even primer without shiney spots on the recesses and overspray on the high spots, I use brush on primer. Usually, I'll use Plaid Glass medium and then put a coat of Reaper brush on primer on that.

Even if your LGS doesn't carry it, if they have Reaper figs they can order you some.

Keep in mind too that your LGS lives off your purchases. If you don't see what you want, ask for it. Most of the time, a store will oblige.

And if they don't, I'd ask why they're encouraging you to spend your money elsewhere.

An LGS that doesn't like special orders is signing its own death warrant.

I found the Floquil and Tamyina (or how ever you spell them..) at our local Model Train Store. I haven't bought any of them, but I know they carry them.

That's also where I find all my basing/terrain items. All my woodland scenic and hudson & allen needs.

YMMV,

good luck in the looking,

cher ^_^

Thanks for the tips, but really, Krylon works just fine for me. Now if I can just get it from someplace other than Hobby Lobby or Wal-Mart. I have issues with both of those chains.

I have some ideas, though.

I think I may have saw Krylon at Sears hardware. If one of those are near you...

Otherwise try Lowes. I knoe Home Depot sells Rustoleum, so maybe they sell krylon!

Here is a tip: If you are getting only small areas bubbling you might try filing the offending area down. Do this VERY gently and you should be able to get rid of all those pesky bumps. This should save you the hassle of dunking. If all the miniature is like that then go ahead and dunk it. I have a few that bubble like that on small areas and after filing down the offending area it saved me the hassle of dunking.
