Resin Printer Issues

Recommended Posts

The fan i got was from Anycubic, so I'll just replacing stock for stock there. The bigger one will be the one that gets replaced.

As far as what it looks like. It points down & it won't be seen so I don't care what it looks like.

Other the whine (which is back to full volume again) prints are back! Printed out Krampus during the game yesterday.  I printed off 1 of 7 snowmen before heading upstairs for a nap. (Came out great as well)

Failure using new settings.

Or could there be something wrong with the print?

It built up alright when I checked before slicing.

I tested the LCD Screen, Perfect rectangle.

So either these settings don't work for me or the file has a problem.

Going to print it in parts and see what happens then.

Print decided to print half and went on for the time without printing the next layers...

Okay Question..

I printed the engine and the ram for my steam wagon.

Printed out good.

But on one side of the engine I noticed these two lines/cracks?

Normally everything prints out without these, I've had this happen one or twice before, usually on a large surface.

Since it happened before when the printer was just in use and now and not in between, I'm curious to know what causes this?

I do not know if this is how it got printed.

Thing is, I remove it from the build plate and immediately dunk it into alcohol.

Then into hot water.

Now I must admit that today the water was really really hot, it just had boiled.

Could this cause this?

It's good enough for my purpose, a little putty and we're off.

I was wondering about the LCD screen, but since everything else prints well and it has happened before a few months ago, I wonder if too hot water can do this?

Or did I over expose or used too much traction? I did not alter the settings compared to the carriage itself which printed well.

thoughts?

Do you remember if the water was super hot the other times it happened?

Have you reprinted anything that this happened to using the same print settings, and if so did it happen the second time? It may be worth trying a second printing, having the near-boiling water on standby, and checking for the lines after the alcohol wash but before putting it in water. If the lines are there, it's a print issue. If they aren't then give it the dip in the water and see if that causes them.

If it's a print issue I don't know how it'd be fixed or what exactly would cause it, but at least you'd have narrowed it down and can maybe find someone more knowledgeable to help. But I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was the water.

It might be, it was very hot this time.

And I have been printing big parts lately without a fuss..

I had a model crack on me something fierce, one of the flying cars from cyberforge. I had hollowed it out and made holes underneath inside the peg-hole for the flying stand, but it turned out I had not managed to flush it out properly and after a time it cracked all along one side and some watery, thinned liquid resin came out.  (I use water washable resin.) I chalk this one down to inexperience.

But anyway, about your cracks:

Might there be some liquid resin trapped inside?

The engine was not hollowed out.

I'm leaning towards the hot water and then ripping off the supports might have caused it.

In fact the Carriage itself which I printed first was hollowed out.

I always place holes underneath and on top to get the excess resin out.

I know my LCD screen is fine. I have tested it a few days ago and I have had this happen once or twice before, months ago even.

Maybe there was too mucht traction on that part?

The ram shows no signs of it neither did the armour I printed yesterday.

Well after cleaning the failed LCD print off the plate today (I treated like a regular print using the Wash n Cure station) & cleaning up the FEP, I must have poked the FEP while scraping off the ruined print. It was big & probably bound to happen. Actually the first time I've poked a FEP sheet. At first I thought there might be resin on the LCD, but there wasn't any. After cleaning up the vat tray & then the frames, I set aside while I went to town.

Oddly I came across a couple things, but notably I came across some thin double sided tape. Hoping to use that when I eventually put in the new LCD. I'm sure I'm due for a new one. I told myself when I do change it I'm gonna change the fans out at the same time.

Anyways, back to the printer. I got home assembled the sheet, found out I only had 2 sheets left, so I place anther order with flexvat . com for anther 4 pack of pre-drilled sheets. (Awesome service & I'll be a customer for as long as I need to use them!!) So I just started the female horned devil. She is in 2 files, main body & then it's been awhile since I sliced that file but the 2nd file has parts on it, mainly her wings & something else??? Hopefully, in 3 1/2 hours I'll see if the FEP change fixes my printer, for now.

I did have anther odd problem, it's come up before. While I was cycling through files, they started to disappear from the screen, only showing the name & no preview. I was using a aftermarket brand of USB drive like Sandisk or Lexar but I switched back to the stock USB that came with my printer & the files showed up again. Who knows what that problem is????

Also, I decided to change up my brand of resin. I noted in Acquisitions thread, that I came across a great shade of resin from a brand I've never heard of before, but the ratings were great & figured eh, I like the color. Pouring the resin into the vat, it kinda looks like the shade of blue on the Chitubox logo.

This is why i asked you about the USB stick.

I had that happen the moment I tried to create a spare one and was hoping you could explain to me how to do that.

I'm clueless to that problem. It'll read the stick like normal & then files will start disappearing.  I'll cycle back up & they are all gone.

Turn off the machine & then back on & the files are back. Last time I had this problem, I had the failed lcd print, so maybe it's tied to that?
