Evacuation - Again

Fires are threatening my home yet again.  The lower slopes of the mountain on which I live are burning.  We evacuated at 0600 to my in-laws' so we are safe but things are not ideal.  At this point I just hope that I can go home to my minis.  The friend of ours who is in the fire brigade has said it will likely be 7-14 days before the evacuation order is lifted.

Stay safe. Minis can be replaced...  though I hope you have a small travel kit you can distract yourself with while you wait to be able to go home.

I'm far enough that I'm not in danger, but a few days ago, the wind shifted, and my whole neighborhood smelled like an ashtray. The air was thick enough that it looked like fog. Gave us some bad moments before we determined that it was literally just smoke from the forest fires.

Best wishes to everyone who has to deal with worse.

Ugh. Sorry to hear that, especially after the wildfires from the thunderstorm lightning we had several weeks ago (not to mention the man-made started fires).

Not gonna help now, but support goats as fire prevention. They also get rid of invasive plants. All this dry fuel is a result of 100 years of CA and Federal "fire suppression" policy to prevent fires. While this sounded good, it also meant suppression of the natural lifecycle of plants, and build-up of a century of kindling for these mega-fires we're experiencing now.

Luckily so far this year, we've only had a grassfire near Intersate 84. It wasn't really near us but it did threaten a smaller town for a few hours. We've gotten smoke from both western OR & Cali this year thou. 2020, what can you say....

Stay safe, hope you guys/gals get some relief soon!!

Are you in the Napa area?

We live north of Napa about ˜45 miles, but we've evacuated to Napa, camping out on my in-laws' floor.  It's the four of my family with our dog and cat, and two of our friends with their five dogs, two cats, four birds, two chickens, and a tortoise all packed into the in-laws'.  It's quite a party.

Good news.  The mandatory evacuation has been downgraded to a warning.  We're going home to empty the refrigerator today but not staying as the utilities are not fully back online.  Friends who went back last night have confirmed our house still stands.
