Extrabio47
Like Chestnut Gold (one of my go-to colors) and Khaki Shadow? Or was it announced and I just missed it? I would have stocked up had I known. Aw, nuts.... Worn Navy and Soft Blue, too? Come on, Reaper!! Gadgetman!
Reaper doesn't have a habit of announcing paint discontinuations. They do this about once every year, and it's the paints that sell poorly that goes. (unless it happened because a pigment disappeared from the market or something like that) I remember the frenzy they set off when they actually announced the end of the HD line. Anyway, all the paints you mentioned are still available with some resellers, so you can still stock up some. And let this be a lesson to everyone; if there's a colour you 'go to' all the time for some reason, always stock up on it.
Extrabio47
Thank you Gadgetman. There is more than one lesson to be learned here. Just this week, I recommended Reaper on two miniatures boards. One person asked about painting palomino horses, and I suggested using the (now unavailable) Reaper triad that included Chestnut Gold. Another asked about painting ACW Union troops, and I recommended the Worn Navy/Soft Blue/Heather Blue triad. A bit ironic, isn’t it? I won’t be making any future recommendations with regards to Reaper paint. I like Reaper Paint, and will continue to use it, but I am not a happy camper.
Xiwo Xerase
I too wish Reaper had made an announcement regarding which colors were being discontinued. The closest thing I've seen to an announcement was a discussion about dropping paint colors on a recent ReaperLive stream. I believe the driving factor was the need to reduce the number of colors available so the entire range would fit into paint racks at stores. (I'm not certain of this! I could be wrong!) Paints that had not sold well were on the chopping block. The glimmer of hope offered was that some (all?) of the discontinued paint colors will be available in the future as limited edition (096xx) paints but there was no mention about timing.
Gadgetman!
Reaper has a paint filling machine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrR5h-4hDBk and while it's a wonderful piece to watch, it's not completely automatic. And it probably requires cleaning between colours... So they won't run small lots, even if they could because of all the extra work in preparation and cleanup. (cleaning fluids, lost 'leftover' paints and the work hours spent to clean up all adds up to costs) They make batches of many Gallons of each colour they manufacture. And since paint settles and degrades over time(you do remember to give every colour a good shake once or twice every year, yes?), they don't want the paint to sit too long in the warehouse. So, Cost, Quality and possibly (rack)Space...
Cygnwulf
I think the main complaint here is less the fact that they have to discontinue colors (I think we all understand the need to limit the size of the line) but more the fact that they very seldom let people who are fans of a color know they're about to not be able to get it any more. 6
Members SamuraiJack
Also keep in mind that Sadie has been having to focus on ReaperCon colors for this year and for both special edition paint sets they are releasing, she's said multiple times she hasn't had time to make some of the regular paint and also said she didn't know of any Triads they had intentionally discontinued.. @Reaper_Jon could you maybe ask Sadie for an update on the paint line when she has time?

I was just coming here to say the same. My guess is they are just out of stock, and would not drop single colors like this without also dropping the entire triad.
Heisler
Chestnut gold could probably be replaced by one of the colors in the NMM Gold series; 9301-9303
Inarah
Well... broccoli. Chestnut gold is one of my go-to colors, ever since Desert Tan went away, which was my replacement when Griffon Tan was discontinued. I'm going to have to find a more reliable paint line.
Super Administrators Reaper_Jon Posted September 29, 2020 Super Administrators Share Posted September 29, 2020 There will be a statement coming, all will be explained. This is coming from the top, so as soon as I receive it I will post it in all the places. 1

There is something to be said for that. Of course more reliable means they never change their line up, except for GW. I have also heard some distressing reports of dropping paint quality in several other non reaper paint lines.
Hibou
I accidentally ordered extra triads of the khaki and navy blue during my Xmas orders last year. When I resorted my paints I was upset with myself that I had spent extra money due to my poor organization skills. Now I am feeling much better about it.

I love Reaper paints, but I've been slowly having no choice but to phase other companies in as my "go to colours". Ability to acquire them in a reasonable amount of time has been getting harder and harder for us Canadians - few places carry them (or restock when they run out), and this has been something going on for a few years now. Here's hoping the statement doesn't take too long to come, and comes in multiple forms (and not just a Facebook post).
