I liked this one, pretty girls and a little spooky stuff.

This still gets me rollin, especially the part with the dead football team.

Just thought of it, one of the creepiest television moments of 1999 was "Hush", the silent episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. For me, that is one of the scariest episodes in television history.

It's a Halloween movie, not horror but good comedy. One of my favorites as a wee lad (along with Ernest Scared Stupid):

A group of Martian army reservists take a wrong turn towards the battle they are supposed to be fighting and crash on Earth during Halloween. Only other movie I've ever seen the young girl from the first Jurassic Park movie in (always bothers me when I see faces and try to place them).

Just thought of a Michael J. Fox movie The Frighteners, if anyone ever saw that. Comedy-horror, but I remember it being pretty good. Has elements that are similar to the Odd Thomas movie (and I presume the book series, though I never read it), which is also a decent one for Halloween.

Last night we watched Grabbers, it was a very enjoyable horror comedy set on an island off Ireland.  The monsters have an unusual weakness our heroes exploit to its fullest and hilarity ensues.

Very fun movie! Totally forgot about that one. May have to watch it again in the future. Thanks for reminding me.

Don't forget that Peter "Lord of the Rings" Jackson directed it. It's a great bridge between his horror movies and Hollywood blockbusters.

The only Peter Jackson movie I particularly care for.

I had forgotten Spaced Invanders. "Prepare to die earth scum!"

Lot of great movies here. I am also stupidly excited about the new Ghostbusters movie.

Okay just watched "US"

it was okay scare-wise but did not hold together.  the number and independent survival  of "Others"  violated my suspension of disbelief.

and talking it over this morning with my elder spawn, I not only realized what I am looking for in a horror movie, but why.

I only decide if it is a good horror movie after its over.  Did it make sense? was it internally consistent, did the characters feel like real people?

weather I was scared in the moment was beside the point, at least for me.  Even the heart-pounding trip from the living room to my bed is a price, not a goal.

(I watch most horror movies at night, alone)

I judge horror like I do science fiction.   Its just that I expect Sci_Fi   to lay out (most of) the rules at the beginning and Horror reveals the rules at the end.

figuring out the rules is much of the tension/enjoyment.

Loved Grabbers.   It felt like I was drunk the whole time.   I'm going to spoil the gimmick because I think it adds.  The monsters wont eat humans, if there blood-alcohol content is over .1

so everyone in the small Irish town has to get very drunk, and stay that way.   Then fight monsters.

I laughed so hard it was hard to breathe in some scenes.

Spoiling this directly contradicts what I said earlier,  but this one was way better comedy than horror.  that said the movie was internally consistent as well.

      Better late than never.

Here's some fun Pumpkin Horrors I painted up for @Inarah for Secret Sophie this past December.  I was still riding on my Halloween spirit when Secret Sophie began, but wanted to do something that fit the winter theme.  Inspired by the snowman-like design of the Pumpkin horrors and my own past mistakes of leaving pumpkins outside to rot all winter, I decided to do a holiday mashup with these guys left out in the cold too long.

With some time having passed, I wish I would have made them look a bit rotten and frost-bitten, but I also like the more colorful result.

      More Photos Below the Spoiler:

These were some fun minis and my first time working with metal.  I have now broken the seal and have started looking into other minis that I previously considered off-limits.  I also enjoyed participating in Secret Sophie and joining in to some of the forum shenanigans.  I highly recommend participating in these kinds of things for any who have been reticent.

What are some of your favorite holiday minis?

This is Reaper's Elise the Witch.
      SKU. 02863 ( Metal Figure)

Once she was part of a big Halloween Diorama but that didn't survive the move.
I was able to save the minis though.

I rebased her, gave her some highlights/ repainted parts.
She's back in action now, ready to turn you into a frog or a willing servant.

I know, I know, 2020 is scary enough, but here are some spooky miniatures.

Not super sure where to post this but this made the most sense to me. I found some fantastic miniature pumpkins at my local Joann Fabrics.

Hopefully you can find them elsewhere if you don't have a Joann's.
They come in $10 bags that are pretty big. I don't see myself ever needing to buy more.

They say "fall drieds" which makes me think they're some kind of organic. But they have the consistency of some kind of acorn or pinecone. So pretty solid. I don't think they'd deteriorate but if you're worried I'm sure a sealant of some kind would do the trick.

They come in a mix of sizes but they all look pretty good at 28mm scale. The cutting mat has half-inch squares.
Most of the pumpkins are of the artistically exaggerated size compared to a mini, and the smaller ones tend to be darker and a bit more mishapen. The coloration in them is pretty decent. I think they could use a layer of highlights but if you're in a hurry or making a huge pumpkin patch, then they look just fine.

Anyways, I hope this is useful for someone!

Inspired by the weekend question, I took some pictures of the army thus far and found that posting it in the question thread would be excessive, also that I didn't have an ongoing thread for my largest painted army so here it is. The plan is to get my Shelf of Incompleteion cleared off then work on reinforcements for this alongside my Old School Undead army.

Here we have the Pumpkin construct unit led by a Storybook Witch from Old Glory. I have 3 more of her, but the bag only came with the one flight stand and the Reaper ones I have don't fit, when I get around that, they'll form their own unit. Behind her is Rotpatch, and the scarecrow is hanging out with these guys until I can get a couple more. The constructs are filling the slot of core infantry.

Here is a Ral Partha Witch leading the Pumpkin Knight heavy infantry consisting of the Halloween Knight and converted Barrow Wardens.

Willow Greenivy leading the skeletal Pumpkin Guard. 10 newer GW skeletions and a variety of Reaper Bones.

Elise with the Pumpkin Chucker and some Bones skeletal archers providing ranged support.

A female Necromancer and the Etherial Legion of ghosts and wraiths.

An Iconic Witch, Pumpkin Spider, and friends.

A converted Brettonian Sorceress with the skeletal heavy infantry. Basically, what happens when adventurers irritate the witches.

      Bats, wolves, and allied vampires.

      Another vampire and werewolf allies.

Zombies, ghouls, and another Reaper Witch.

Beastmen and hell hounds with an infernalist witch.
