Spirit of the Forest - turned into an Ent

Recommended Posts

I have two Spirits of the Forest (Bones) and wanted to convert one into a Ent, that is kind of taller and less bulky.

Long story short, I kept the head and torso, but extended the arms and legs.

So far I roughed out the volumes. Next up refinement and textures. I will place a mushroom man on his palm and some smaller ones riding along in the cavity in his chest, while he leans on a staff in his other hand.

Good start! I'm looking forward to seeing this develop.

Yes, I thought it is time to branch out and paint some bigger dudes.

It's unbeleafable how cool this is!!

I just made a test in terms of carving the mix: Works very well. It is very hard, but the surface can be worked with a needle tool.

Bark texture applied (carved in filler) and some more branches added.

The face of the Ent also got some grumpiness tonight. I went for a more whimsical style. I will add a moss beard as well.

I used a mix of Milliput and Greenstuff. Ratio about 3:1. Depending how flexible you want it you can add more or less greenstuff. I didn't invent it, but it seems many sculptors use it to get the best of both worlds. You mix each component separately and combine them in the end.

I did some experiments with wool, moss and coconut fiber to fashion a moss beard. I think I will add some more volume, but overall it looks fine. Painting will be done via airbrush.

I also finished his fingers. Apart from the beard I only need to add some ranking ivy, maybe some more mushrooms and I can start painting.
