Winter is Coming...(November Hobby Goals)

Recommended Posts

Actually getting some hobby time in so can make a half month update.

Finished

Unit of 14 mounted Druzhiniki

3"x2" chunk of Ulvheim ruined wall.

Printed

first floor of small Ulvheim house. Failed print but still usable with a little hole filling.

4 Battletech mechs - Not sure when I'll paint these. Just filling out my wish list.

Prepped for paint

20 Druzhiniki - 5 are already half painted

4 peasant archers partially painted another 4 need to be assembled

Handful of Bones peasants/civilians - some partially painted

~20 Mantic skeletons - some partially painted

Going to try and get all the russians finished as soon as I can. Possibly this week. That'll clear up some more room in my mini waiting area and be my 4th finished army in my life. Maybe only 3rd as the goblins seem to keep multiplying.

Near future goals

Finish painting all my partially painted minis

Print and paint a ton of the Ulvheim ruins.

Print another ~10 mechs

Figure printer settings for speedy terrain and high quality minis

Learn how to sculpt what I want to make/modify for 3D printing

Start painting my 20+ year old Warhammer Empire army

Gotta get those cavepeople finished (I'm done with the first 90%, now it's time for the final 90%) and add the vultures and victim(s) to the Tree of Woe.
Photograph the Lost World w/megafauna and cavefellas!
Got a couple of Sophies on the back burner and a few shelf-of-shame minis.
And of course converting the anime heroine and the chara-kau; that didn't happen AT ALL.

Western Sophie got finished up and there's been some GreenStuff progress towards making a Monkey Business Associate and giving the nurse a period-appropriate skirt. Turned a WotC Aaracokra into a top-hatted Sam the Eagle, finished a Hasslefree Velma.
Just received a new shipment of horrible brigands and wretched peasants suitable for low fantasy. Oh boy we're going to use SO many shades of brown and grey!

I have stalled out (again) for reasons that I'll not go into here.  Joseph, Mary, Baby Jesus are mostly done.  The wise men are a bit of a creative block.  The shepherd, sheep, and donkey will be handled as I get a chance.

I'm expecting to get more done this weekend.  I may have to reprioritize which figures get completed and which might not.

Goals for this month are to avoid starting anything new until I've done one or two of the following:

Goblin pirates (from freebooters fate)

Elf light infantry (North Star)

Viking saga warband (artizan designs/North Star)

All of these are primed and washed so should be straight forward. There are then tons of primed models around my desk (including a bunch from Bones 4) that I want to approach in a project based way.

I want to finish one of the projects I spelled out, this year, but ended up being productive but not on the things I'd planned to do.

I've painted up 24 plastic infantry which are in a 'Rangers of Shadow Deep' colour scheme. I added 4 bones knights, in the same scheme. The knights are huge (about 32-35mm scale) but they seem to work.

I might finish off the Elf light infantry this month. Some of them made their way into the Rangers project. There were also some of the special character minis from ROSD that i counted as part of the light infantry project and I have nearly done those.

I have also taken all the primed black bones minis I had that were covered in plate armour and have been painting those as a batch.

Well, it’s the last day of the month and I’ve cleared my desk to be “at work” in 20 minutes.  I’m doubting that I will get anything else finished.

It wasn’t a nothing month, but it wasn’t a record-breaker either.  I ended up concentrating on my 1/72 scale projects, with a chariot for the Bronze Age historicals, and a handful of skirmish-game individuals and NPCs for the fantasy game.  Next month?  We’ll see...

Various things come to mind for this month...

- Rearrange desks to make room for upcoming airbrush and spray booth

- tidy up desks so they're usable

- learn airbrush!

- Paint some terrain

- finish assembly of last couple of pieces of MDF terrain

- progress on Infinity models

Huh.. About the only thing I didn't really do was any progress on MDF terrain, since I wound up digging out some older plastic (and Bones) terrain I had lying around.

Airbrush is set up and has been used several times, desks are tidier (especially the assembly desk, where I have three different projects on the go now), and some terrain definitely has seen a good amount of progress.  Overall, a good month I'd say, especially since I'm more comfortable with the gaming/painting balance I've worked on.

I realize now I didn't post goals for this month.

I had planned on writing a 50k word novel thing but I stalled out at 14.5k. I also wanted to do some embroidery, which did happen.

I am trying to get my desk area cleaned up so I can paint soon. I need to come up with some goals for next month.

I've got through a bunch of minis again, taking my time on a few special ones than rattling through some units. I managed over 80 minis but all to a particular tabletop standard.

I took a break from fantasy figures for a few months, and this month pretty much everything had a cloak or a sword...

The main motivation I seem to have is getting units on the table so in the after times I can get some games in. I managed to put together most of a warband for games like Saga or Warlords of Erehwon or Oathmark. 24 light foot and 5 knights.

I have also found Forlorn Hope Games on ebay. They are selling the old Grenadier Copplestone fantasy minis and have good service and a good selection. It's been great fun to buy all the toys I couldn't afford in my nerdy youth.

Well, I was able to get a fair amount of work done.  It's still not complete, but I should be able to complete things before I see Ma Strawhat again (hopefully this weekend).  So the good news is that Ma Strawhat will have it this season.

Another dragon!
probably the gargantuan white from wizkids

I have 5 unpainted dragons - all need elaborate basing or sculpting modifications.

5 bones villagers from ks4 - to finish the group.

Finished a dragon  - the tiny wrapping christmas dragon

- I  didn't like the way the white was going and it was abandoned. for now.

I will try and finish it in December.

Finished 5 villagers.

and the  Rhino beetle (bones4)  that I bought this month.

Most productive month I've had in ages for minis.

Russians are done. Well everything except one standard. Life punched me yesterday so didn't finish painting it but close enough.

One 2 story house 3D printed and partially painted along with some smaller ruins fully painted.

A dozen Battlemechs 3D printed and primed. No plans to paint these anytime soon but we're ok with playing with our grey mechs.

A bunch of odds and ends minis and things for the kids 3D printed.

Learned the very basics of Blender, Meshmixer, Cura and a couple of other programs so I can do simple mods and part swaps on stls for 3D printing.

Figured out some decent settings for various things on the 3D printer.

This was going to be Minivember: 30 minis in 30 days (or maybe 20 minis in 30 days) but I haven't even started prepping figures.  Maybe I can pull off my annual Thanksgiving Paint Binge.

I have far more enthusiasm for the package of doll house crafting supplies that is coming my way this week.

My primary goal is finishing the christmas quilt I began in 1994.  As long as I don't go down any youtube or twitch rabbit holes I should have plenty of time....

I got my paint binge in, and the quilt is half way there.

Goal this month is to get something/anything done. Last month got shot to heck, but hopefully this month the four-legged family members will all be better, which will leave only Dad as the sole invalid in the house. I might get a chance to do some hobbying. If that's the case, I'd settle for doing any of the following:

  • finishing prepping/assembling the rest of my Mantic Orc army
  • check all of my unpainted Bones KS1 figures to make sure they aren't sticky; if all is good, clean mold lines and brush prime them
  • paint any of the figures I have sitting on the desk

I'll take whatever I can get this month.

The easy part of one goal is done. So maybe 10% of a goal accomplished? Time to break out the cleaning gear... and it may be time to buy a cheap airbrush and mini-compressor to prime all of them.

Didn't get anything else done apart from the above mentioned. Tried to get a few minis cleaned up, but too many interruptions and other things to do. Maybe December is my month.
