And we're going back into lockdown tomorrow at midnight.

This will have almost no impact on me, other than my wife wanting to have another couple over for supper on her birthday.
I did immediately book tickets to see Kings Man tonight, before the theaters close.  We'd planned to see it, but just hadn't gotten to it yet...

Well I did in fact get my booster email! Just past midnight last night, and I booked as soon as I could. I had options: wait 1 week or more for an appointment super close to me, or at the Italian cultural center where they give our lasagna with the shots. OR.... 12hrs from when I got the email in the sketchiest part of town where my bike might be stolen and I might be stabbed with a knife in addition to a needle, OR..... 12hrs from when I got the email in the nice fancy part of town a few blocks away from a decent hobby shop.

Weather was even nice! Biked to the pharmacy in the nice part of town. Got my booster - they had both Pfizer and Moderna, and I took Moderna to join the mix-n-match crowd. Went to hobby shop. Got myself some Vallejo/Nocturna reds.

Got home. I expect the post-vax hangover to start in a few hours and last until Saturday.

So far, friends are doing ok, & it's actually just 1 friend who has the bug, the other is deemed a close contact. Tbh, I was kinda worried cause I had just seen the guys the day before, but that was on Weds & I haven't shown any symptoms at all. If I'm worried about it more, I'll probably try & get tested next week sometime. Testing around here is severely delayed. Manager told me someone in the frozen dept at work is out of work for a bit just cause he can't get tested right now.

BC's modeling is indicating we likely just got over the peak of transmission, but peak in the hospitals is yet to come. Even if the testing got overwhelmed, the sewage monitoring changed and that's a good community level indicator.

My post-booster hangover subsided. Not as bad of side effects as I thought; just a mild headache and day-of-derps, and was pretty tired. Now my armpit is puffy but that's okay. Happened last time too.

My cousins are no longer sick. Gramma is in isolation, but tested negative - her unvaxed hair-dresser got sick and exposed her and others at the retirement home. Been a few days so it is almost certainly a true negative for Gramma, thank goodness. **grumbles and curses at the hair-dresser**.

Had the weekly call with the folks last night.  Mom's hairdresser called yesterday to let her know that the hairdresser had been notified that someone she'd been in contact with had tested positive and the hairdresser was exhibiting symptoms.  Mom had been there Friday.  A bit concerning as Mom has only had her first shot.  She had a fairly severe reaction (like 4 weeks) to that shot which they now believe was a reaction to PEG, which she had tested as allergic to before.  So she's still dealing with "the powers that be" to try to get a J&J shot (since it is PEG free) as they are rather hard to come by up here. Hopefully she won't get sick but we just have to wait and see.

Locally we're into lockdown, which has had zero impact on us so far.  I did leave the house to snowblow the driveway yesterday, but that was the extent of my travel for the weekend.

Well good news on my friends front is, the non-covid person can come out of quarantine today & the one that got covid, he is out Thursday. Both live in a group home, but they the place is overlooked by anther friend who is really good at what he does. Covid friend said they would be good to go for this Saturday but he erred on the side of caution & said prob best for the Saturday afterwards. I had planned that anyways. Glad to see they are both ok.

As far as myself, no symptoms whatsoever, so I'll leave the test to someone that might need it more then I with the shortages & such. Speaking of hair, I need a haircut, my hair is long in places that it makes my simple haircare look like I just woke up every day hard to maintain that I've put off getting one, thou mainly due to the weather & not because of covid issues. Where I go has a mask mandate in place (Great Clips) plus they prefer you do the check in vs walk ins. I may do that this week, eh if not there is always the gaiter I wear when I head up to work that I turn into a doorag since I don't like using those as mask anymore. Effective for keeping my head warm due to no heat in the backroom where I spend half of my shift at. Sadly, they "fixed" the heater back there, it blows a nice cool breeze 90% of time now....sigh.

So it appears that anther friend who lives in a group home as well has been in quarantine as well. I found out today as he message me & said he wasn't going to make it for tonight's game at the FLGS. I didn't realize they all lived in the same home. I have no way of letting a person in my group know, but I'm thinking of cancelling tonight's game as I only have 2 people & the section they are in requires the party to have  bit of umph in them just in case.

Sounds like he is doing ok thou, at there is that.

Sir Cyr's aunt, great-aunt (like 90+ yrs old), and uncle got plague... but almost didn't notice. They're all fully vaccinated and boosted. The uncle flew back home, left aunt and great-aunt together. Then aunt and great-aunt both have mildly scratchy throats, that's it. They didn't have access to a test, but the uncle did - and he has no symptoms at all. He tested positive. Assumption is they all have it, but are so mild that it isn't a bother. Thank goodness that Sir Cyr's great-aunt is well protected and the boost is doing its job.

One of my family members also got plague, and they're dealing with a runny nose and headache, but otherwise fine. More grumpy than anything else.

Also a little disturbing for me: If I catch it, I definitely won't notice if a scratchy throat is the only symptom. I'm like that half the time anyway, and my poor eating and sleeping habits (not enough of either) mean I have regular lethargy and mild headaches on a daily basis. Am I typhoid-Cyr, or am I fine, or am I sick and next day will be worse? Last thing I want is to pass what is easy for me to someone who it wouldn't be easy for 😕

Well it's official, come the end of March England is giving up on Covid (barring the appearance of a nasty new strain),  no more restrictions or regulations, it's going to join flu as just one of those things we put up with.

We did weather Omicron surprisingly well, and numbers are going down across the board, but once again I'd prefer if this was entirely a science-based decision and not political shenanigans.

Probably the only "positive" of the Omicron variant is that despite it's incredibly high levels of contagion, the number of deaths has not noticeably increased, essentially flat. So it really is far less deadly.

Still sucks that we're all much likelier to catch it now. It still sucks to be sick. And we have little idea about long term effects, or how long until any of it ends appreciatively enough to return to normal life. Despite all the goodwill many of us are still willing to give, society as a whole is pretty tired of it.
