Saint of Sinners
I agree, shoot at, get shot back with defencive fire. so be it. THat would be a reasonable trade off and still maintain balance I think
Leech
I have been unable to find any situation, short of a 10 on a Critical Event roll, which would prevent you from recieving Defensive fire when firing upon (using DF weapons, or in LoS/LoF) someone. So I generally allow all kinda of zaney things - but you'll get shot back at so it's cool :o)
Chrome
Now that I'm back online, I should point out that the original ruling that Rave, FreeFall, Kai and I came up with was that the player controlling the Scorp had to choose whether he was using the hill for cover that turn or if he was shooting over it. If he used it for cover, it blocked LOS for both parties, he couldn't shoot over it. If he shot over the hill, enough of his CAV was exposed (the DFMs are level w/the cockpit afterall) that he was considered to be in LOS to all models. The hill still provided Hull Down protection, but that was it. The Scorp could still be shot at by other models.
Spartan6
We could just ask Reaper not to make anymore and ban them. I hate them. I intentionally don't field any so no discussion can like this can start due to me. It seems that without fail a discussion like this will ensue when the decision is really important and no matter how you rule someone will feel rudely used. abngi
Perhaps I'm missing something here. How would a Scorpion pop-up be different from just walking up the hill, firing, and walking back? Or stepping around a corner, shooting, and stepping back? Incidentally, I haven't played CAV since it first came out - am I making a mis-assuption about mechanics, or is it just a matter of players wanting to make mechanics match fluff capabilities? Astral Rogue
Chrome, thanks for that.. Spartan6, It's not an official rule, just don't use it. no one is hard done by, it's not in the rule book.. abngi, It's differnet in that you have to move to walk, etc. costing power, changing bonuses on the shot etc. if you can just pop up on it's legs, and this is another can of worms, you could be clasified as not moving etc. and if you pop up shoot then move you can get further away and hopefuly right out of harms way. anyway there are differences. Chrome
The difference is that the Scorp wouldn't have to move to crest the hill, thus getting the +1 TL bonus.
