Box of Goodwill round 10 picture/chatter thread

We've allowed 3d prints in the past and I'll be putting in a few.  Make sure your prints are clean.  The box is for figures you don't want, but don't put in stuff that didn't print right.  Try to pack it to prevent breakage, resin can snap easily and the boxes get abused in transit.  Also, label your stuff.  There's so much 3d work being put out these days it's hard to track it down if you don't know what you're looking at.

As I've bought more stls then actual minis the last couple months, I'm pretty sure you know where I stand when it comes to printed minis. If anything, I may try & contribute some again for this one. These will be allot better in quality as this time I'll have had more experience printing them out vs last time. Thou, more then likely I'll stick critters in there vs elves or mages.

I don't have access to a 3D printer so I wouldn't mind seeing any printed minis in a box - it'd be a nice opportunity to have a look at least before I get sucked into buying my own printer. ::P:

I have a question about material actually - it might have been mentioned elsewhere, but re: the mentioned ratio of worth (put in aprox. or more than what you take), does that apply across different material types? As in, let's say you've got two $5 plastic minis - is it alright to swap out for one $10-ish metal mini? (not that I use metal myself) Or is it strictly swapping like for like, and you should take out only the type of material that you put in?

(Or is it sized based and not monetary?) Sorry, my brain get's really stuck on all the possible answers to a question, sometimes.  There's probably an obvious assumption to this that I'm missing.

It's pretty much just an honor system - there's no strict conversion chart or anything, and most of us will have no clue what a particular figure's MSRP is, or it's financial value in the resale market. One metal human-sized figure is the same as one plastic human-sized figure, unless you personally feel like it's worth two plastic figures or something. Whatever seems like a fair trade to you.

Personally, I judge each figure individually against what I'm considering swapping it for.

No, it's just 1for 1. The material involved doesn't matter. Got a plastic orc and want that metal dwarf? Cool, make the trade.

edit---also what MadJack just said.

Thank you both for the clarification! I appreicate it - I know the sign-up thread went over putting in two small figures if you're taking a larger one or similar scenarios, but I wasn't sure if that applied simply as a size thing or across materials/value. :)

Though a follow-up question... I am assuming then that the same applies roughly for non-miniatures against miniatures or something similar? I know I've seen people pick out terrain or base bits before and I'm guessing it's a similar thing of evening it out to be what's fair in your eyes, even if you're not necessarily putting the same things back in, or vice versa?

I don't have the largest miniature collection at this point (unless I end up being late enough in the round to contribute B5 duplicates p: ) but I do have plenty of extra bases and dice sets to either chuck in for free (space providing) or swap in. Would be nice if some of them found a home.

Yes, you've pretty much got the right idea.

What kind of bases; just plain plastic ones, or fancy ones with terrain sculpted on?  The reason I ask is the fancy ones can be pricey, so a fair trade for a mini. The plain plastic ones aren't quite as expensive, so are a little harder to adjudicate. (edit)---that's not to say that they wouldn't be welcome.

Dice (if you want to put any in) should be more of a 'free' thing, it's hard to guesstimate what a fair trade would be.

I think I have a mixture - personally I use transparent bases so I often end up with extras or the default ones that come with miniatures I get. I assumed the basic plastic ones are of little value, but that transparent/MDF or the decorated ones would be more "fair". But obviously I'm not planning to stiff anyone, so I'll keep that in mind and might just throw them in as bonus goodies.

That's fair with the dice too - I'll probably just chuck some in for free if there's room or I can get ahold of some small sets that won't be as greedy on space. At the very least, free d20s are appreciated in my experience. ::D: I actually own a (very) small 'nerd' business and though I deal mainly in comics, trading cards, larger memorabilia, etc, I do often end up with things like stickers, pins, jewelry or other small things (lots of dice) that are DnD or RPG themed in general and I have no issue throwing some in for people to take if they want. Makes me feel a bit better about not contributing as many interesting pieces mini-wise. :poke: I'm hoping to expand into things like bases and basing materials soon, so depending upon when the box comes, I might have extras of those as well.

There's also going to be limits based on the box size.  If you take out ten metal minis and want to put in 20 Bones figures, you may find there just isn't room for them.  Most of the boxes are already packed to overflowing.

Thanks Chaoswolf for organizing this again.

Yes, it’s time to split some of them in two.  Every box I saw the year before last was packed to the gills...

So, generally, I think if you are new to the hobby, feel free to take somewhat more than you put back.
