Question for January 8th:

How many alarms do you set to wake up in the morning (or your equivalent time of day if you have a non-traditional schedule)?

None.  I’m thoroughly trained to be up by 0500 no matter what...

If you have the misfortune to end up at my house right now, you can cook for yourself. And while you’re at it, clean up the kitchen and take out the trash.

Swears.

Does getting married count?

On weekdays, usually one alarm and one snooze.  On the weekend, it's oddly simple to wake up automatically some time between 4-6 to paint for a while before the rest of the house wakes up.

Just 1 at 6:30.  I used to be a heavy sleeper, but 20+ years doing on-call means not only does any little noise wake me, but my brain kicks in right away, so no groggy, do back to sleep, it was just a cat business for me.

Amazing how years of being woken up by "Hey, <random thing you've likely never heard of before> is down and holding up the whole schedule. How soon can you have it fixed?" can traumatize you effect how you sleep.

My wife, on the other hand, usually gets up with her alarm, and then wakes up sometime in the next hour ::D:

Two.  One on my phone set for 5:15am, and a back up alarm in the other room set for 5:20am.  Like @Chaoswolf years in the Navy have trained be to wake up readily, but it has also trained me to be able to go right back to sleep if I desire it.  If I don't get up immediately after the alarm goes off there is a chance or me drifting back off, thus the back up that forces me to get out of bed to silence it.

Usually just the one. Though some days I'll already be awake before it goes off and some days, if I know I'm not going to be particularly busy that day, I'll snooze for ten or fifteen minutes.

I mean, I set one...but I snooze 2-4 times, depending. I have to have an old school alarm clock so I can hit the snooze bar on it easily, phone doesn't work for me (I'm tactile). For a while I tried waking up to music, but it either put me to back to sleep or was so brash (I did the Sousa morning thing for a week) that I was in a bad mood, which kinda sucked.

I've always been a night owl, so it's tough for me to get up in the morning. My conscious and unconscious minds have been at war my entire life. My conscious mind resist sleep with every fiber of its being, and conversely my unconscious mind fights to retain control and keep me from waking.

That said, I'm quasi-military in that I can be up and alert instantly if my sensors pick up the slightest disturbance that registers as a threat but also sleep through my 25lb cat bounding across me (and he'd always be sure to use me as a springboard). I have a pretty strong semi-conscious threat detection mode, I guess. Gifts of a rough upbringing.

Right now, only one alarm, located on the far side of the room so I have to get up to shut it off. I set it for an hour before I need to be up, climb back in bed to stay warm, and fight against falling back asleep by reading the news or forums. Once my mind is awake I'm good.

I've always likened myself to a car engine on a cold day; you gotta let it warm up first before taking off in it.

Just one, a clock radio that has a "sun" lamp that gradually lights up over 30 minutes to simulate dawn. Got it several years ago when I thought I had sleep trouble, dozing off many times during the day. Turns out it was some of my meds that were too strong.

Normally, I set my clock one hour before I leave for work or whatever. Besides, my internal clock is highly accurate as I'm often awake 5-10 minutes before it goes off.

My alarms for getting up before going into work are:

Regular alarm clock & about 5 mins later my phone alarm.

If I hear the regular alarm again, I know I'm late getting up.

I try to crash around 7 each night, as I wake up around 1130ish for work.

I'm my off night, eh "what's a alarm?". Unless of course I need to be up the next day for some reason.

Question for January 9th:

Go to your unpainted hoard, close your eyes, and pull out a mini. What is it? Is it something you forgot you had? Pics are optional, but always welcome. (If your treasure trove is like Russian dolls, storage box within storage box, keep going until you get to a mini.)

If only my hoard was organized in a manner where I could do this safely. But, alas . . .

There are numerous boxes of varying size. But cannot do the blindfold thing. Too risky.

What is it?

It is a bipedal, arms-bearing, rhinoceros creature.

Is it something you forgot you had?

No. I remember it. I think I might have a squad of these.

The rules: as they were last month (in addition to all regular forum rules) except where I sneakily changed them:

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question. †
1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day, a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, and random forum members are all chomping at the bit to step in and post one... ††
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
      3. Questions are going to be posted sometime before 1 AM Reaper time (US Central).
      4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to Talespinner or Morihalda…
      5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
      6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI).
      7. Weekend questions may take the form of two or three day quests, starting on Friday or Saturday.
      8. Pix always welcome.

The first question will need to be posted after a brief (10 minute) pause to foil the merging of posts.
The footnotes, because I can't resist doing †††footnotes:

      † I will aim for 0600 Reaper/Nottingham time.
††  If subs and backstops could wait until 11AM in Reaper/Denton's timezone to see if I remember.
      ††† …because I re-remembered how to do the dagger ( † ) symbol.
