Question for January 15th:

You are given power over one of the classical four elements (earth, fire, wind, water). Which do you choose to control?

Probably fire.  Not sure precisely why, but I've always had an affinity with fire...  And fire has a love/too-much-love relationship with me.  Why that?  Well, when fire loves you too much, hair gets singed, skin burns, you get the idea.

Besides, that's the side you get the really cool things with in Avatar: The Last Airbender - fire benders can SHOOT LIGHTNING with training...

Then put me in charge of the complaints department, mwa ha ha ha ha ha ha!  I may have escaped retail ages ago, but I also didn't wield fire however I wanted back then, so...

If you have the misfortune to end up at my house right now, you can cook for yourself. And while you’re at it, clean up the kitchen and take out the trash.

Swears.

Does getting married count?

Wind.

That way I can blow away clouds that want to bring snow or rain to my place when I don't want it.

I'd think earth would come in the most handy....gold, silver, platinum, everything for pewter, gems, uranium.....

Water. I'll be able to take care of wild fires, droughts... maybe if I'm good enough to desalinate seawater, or even to clean out pollution... Yeah, I'm going with Water.

While I'd prefer fire or earth, I would pick wind for two reasons.  However, both reasons are unmentionable on this forum.

None of these, humans should not wield such power.

Water. It would make field days so much easier. It would keep me from having to root around in a foot of mud every time I drop an expensive YSI meter into a mucky wetland. And if I can make it rain with my new power over water then that air bnb party house that always has loud, outdoor gatherings that go on all night is getting a downpour every time I hear them.

Earth, I have this crack in our basement floor.  It's only 35' long and up to a half inch deep.  Tuesday it gets fixed but it might be March before the basement is back in shape. Unrelated to yesterday's question, the reason is the 5000 books and board games in 24 bookcases only four that are less than 6' high.

Water. Originally my answer was chosen because controlling such an abundant resource on the planet gives you power... but having just shoveled a mixture of snow, slush and rain from the sidewalks and driveway, now I just want it so I can move all of that out of the way without breaking a sweat.

So many waterbenders here!!!  Me too!

Related on two counts: Several years ago, I almost drafted out and sewed a waterbender jacket.

Then I remembered how many projects I had.

And that I live in Texas....

I could made a dress....... No! No time!!

Wind

I Live in Colorado, I would put on a warm wingsuit, and go play in the mountains.  No one would ever know.  I might even strap on a go-pro and make videos.

Earth also has its attractions, but it carries with it the obligation of work, and the expense of buying land to play with. I mean sure fossil hunting would be fun, they found a Torosaurus  (triceratops family) about 10 m. away a few years ago.  There has got to me more down there,

as for treasure hunting the most valuable thing under CO is oil, and I dont want to encourage more fracking, we have plenty thnks.

or I could explore the inside of dinosaur ridge.  but even that would require careful work and study  even it I was just doing it to confuse  paleontologists.

Phosphorus. I control your ATP bonds. I can stop all cellular machinery at once leaving you to drop dead in your tracks

Oh wait. Ok. Fire. Fire is just the energy released by breaking molecular bonds. Now I don't just control your ATP bonds, I control all of them. Prepare to explooooode...

From what I remember of Avatar:- The Last Airbender, controlling earth seemed the most useful.

Or maybe that was just because Toph was such a badass.

The rules: as they were last month (in addition to all regular forum rules) except where I sneakily changed them:

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question. †
1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day, a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, and random forum members are all chomping at the bit to step in and post one... ††
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
      3. Questions are going to be posted sometime before 1 AM Reaper time (US Central).
      4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to Talespinner or Morihalda…
      5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
      6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI).
      7. Weekend questions may take the form of two or three day quests, starting on Friday or Saturday.
      8. Pix always welcome.

The first question will need to be posted after a brief (10 minute) pause to foil the merging of posts.
The footnotes, because I can't resist doing †††footnotes:

      † I will aim for 0600 Reaper/Nottingham time.
††  If subs and backstops could wait until 11AM in Reaper/Denton's timezone to see if I remember.
      ††† …because I re-remembered how to do the dagger ( † ) symbol.
