Question for January 2nd:

What piece of hobby equipment did you use most last year? (A brush does count if you are so inclined.)

Definitely brush and well pallet. GW mini fig holder thingie would come in second. Visor third.

Size 3 brush.

But I did run a size 0 into the ground. First time I've used a size 0 enough to do that.

As sizes vary, and because I'm inquisitive by nature, which brand of size 3 and size 0? Did the size 0 get so run down that it's not even useful for glue or paint mixing duty?

Happy New Year! Forget the resolutions, which are usually what you are going to START or STOP doing. Tell us, what are you going to KEEP doing from last year (hobby-related or not, your choice)?

Princeton synthetic size 3

Princeton synthetic size 0

Guess what brand of brushes my local art store carries ::P:

The size 0 is still fine for drybrushing. It just doesn't hold a point anymore. The size 3 has the barest of hooks at the end but is still more than adequate for everything I use it for.

I tend to use the size 0 brushes just for details and tiny bits and things too fine for the bigger 2s and 3s and 4s. So the loss of the point means it's now relegated to drybrushing small things, washes, and maybe messy blends on small surfaces.

Buying minis, painting minis, prepping minis, and now printing minis (I may have only started on the 29th but that was still last year).  Exercising, eating well, playing games... OK, so really I don't plan to change.

That's a hard one.  I think I actually did more prepping than painting this past year, so hobby knife/files is probably the winner.

I had to think long and hard about this one. I switch palettes around all the time(2 well and 2 wet) and my brushes are a motley crew of synthetics. I guess my most used item is this 15 year old pair of snips that I got off eBay for £2 back in the day. They've outlived far fancier and more expensive cutters and are equally happy snipping metal, removing flash and ripping the living daylights out of cork. Here they are with a couple of the minis that they happily and efficiently took tabs off of.

As a teenager, I used to sell items on eBay and made good money during high school to pay for trips. When I went back to university for a master because I could not find employment in my respective field, I resold items to pay for tuition, parking, insurance, and books. I have forgotten about selling items and stumbled upon reselling towards the end of November of last year. It's something I'm good at and thoroughly enjoy, probably why I enjoy digging through the melt bin at reapercon. It's my side hustle and it's helping to pay towards my goal of owning my own house. Hopefully I can obtain it sooner than later now. ^.^

I haven't had much time to paint since virtual reapercon. But I ended up cleaning up my paints, so the vortex shaker is my most used equipment. Definitely saves my arm from breaking.

Question for January 3rd:

One final query about last year, then we're putting that behind us! What's one mini/bust/box-set from your stash that you wish you had painted last year, but didn't get around to doing? Pics are welcome, but not mandatory.

I have one and a half Indomitus boxes to do, but those have to wait until I get a couple other projects finished.

You know that's pretty much all of them.

More seriously, I didn't have any major projects last year aside from the occasional Reaper contest.

Father Dagon is sitting right next to my desk, unassembled and unpainted and unamused.

Hmmm, hard to say.  I'd argue there's a good chance for two in this list though....

^Corvus Belli Maghariba Guard.  This one wound up getting set aside due to wanting to focus on getting core stuff painted up so that hubby and I could play a game with painted minis...

^Oathsworn Heroines In Sensible Shoes Minotaur.  She's still on my desk, just oh so slow goes the progress on her >.>;;;

^And, of course, the JGSDF LAV that my gnolls have stolen, from Project:Midnight Raid.  This one wound up being slow due to a whoops that happened in the kitchen preventing me from sculpting for a while, because I'm not risking two part epoxy getting into my bloodstream while things recover.

I can't think of any minis I wanted to paint but didn't, so I'm going to cheat and go with a pair of minis I started and wished I'd finished, but didn't.

Submarine:-

Spoiler

I've painted the base:-

icovQed.jpg

And one half of it:-

ricn7vC.jpg

But after all the assembly trouble I've had getting to this point, I just know the two halves are going to need a ton of gap-filling when I try to fit them together, and it killed all my motivation to get the other half painted.

Skeleton King:-

Spoiler

I'd got pretty far on this one and painted the base and his court:-

YeMIaqy.jpg

But with the King himself:-

Q7HKyo5.jpg

I'd made the mistake of attaching his cape, and now there's loads of areas that are really hard to paint, and I just couldn't face endlessly having to tidy up everything.

Hopefully I'll get them both done one day.

There are two that I would have liked to have finished...finally. Both are GW Goblins. The Loon King seen on the left & the Fungoid Cave Shaman on the right:

The Shaman is presently getting some attention....kind of.
