Question for January 5th:

Some of the best comedy incorporates real-life happenings. If you did stand-up comedy, how well would your spouse or significant other (either past or current) take jokes that are about them? Or family members?

Depends on how much I'm making.

I've got enough stuff just about me that I could go for a long while without needing to bring family into it. If I did, there'd be definite lines I wouldn't cross.

Question for January 6th:

Have you ever been to a school reunion? Is it awkward seeing all the people you graduated with again? If you are from outside the US, do they do these reunions or anything similar in your country?

I have not.

I hated high school and have no desire to revisit those days. As for the chaotic life of college, everyone I hung out with was in different programs, so no reunion in that regard.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooope.  I contemplated going to my ten year high school reunion, but in all actuality I didn't really care to go back there due to numerous reasons, but one of the biggest being back then it was a druggie school, at least part of it...  And I didn't want to have to deal with some of the idiots I'd gotten into altercations with in the past, because the football guys thought they could pick on the geeks, or other "lesser" sports teams.  Yeah, no offense worst team in the city football quarterback, you got dropped by one of the swimmers who was 7th in northern Alberta, our curling team was in the top quarter, and our badminton teams were pretty good too.

That and I'm not a fan of awkward social gatherings, I have enough problems going to one's within communities I'm technically part of...  I say technically because I've kind of distanced myself from at least two of the communities I used to be part of, because I don't like dealing with stupid drama.  Or idiots who won't stop asking what my thoughts of Hobbitton or however it's spelt were when they hadn't done any filming for LOTR in New Zealand when I was there!

We do have school reunions here in Canada, but I really don't care about such things, doubly so because people I used to know (and steadily drifted away from, like military brats tend to do)...  No offense to them, but I don't want to see all the success they wound up gaining (many went on to engineering, and other prolific things) while I chose to try and walk my own path, and by comparison didn't get anywhere near the same way.  Not saying things are bad for me, just I didn't know which way I wanted to go, I really didn't want more schooling, and I choose a different kind of slog.

I'm still happy as all sin for the paths I've wandered, even with all the mistakes, with some being things I won't ever be able to undo.

No, I was never close with anyone in high school and had no reason to see the people who had tormented me.

This begs the question: which sitcom mom are you cosplaying? ^_^

It depends from day to day, but I’m pleased to say that I’ve never been Peggy, from Married with Children.

Considering my family is so boring I’d have to make stuff up about them, they’d probably be fine with it.

I actually went to a reunion of Elementary School when I was about 14.

Yes it was awkward and I never went to another reunion ever, not from school, not from work, I just don't like it.

People have changed, life goes on.

No I haven't. Occasionally people take it upon themselves to set up something, but they're still not really a thing in the UK (or, at least, not in my part of it).

Not sure if I'd want to go to one or not, it would be interesting to see how everyone had changed, but also probably very depressing.

Yes/no.

Yes, I have been to one; no, it wasn't mine. My wife wanted to go one of hers, so we went. It was only awkward in that I was in a room full of people who I only knew 1 of.

Mine always seemed to be happening when I was somewhere interesting halfway around the world in the Navy.

I went to my 30th high school reunion.  It was ok, but noisy and somewhat awkward.  There were enough people I hung  out with (so to speak) to make it interesting.  As far as I know, they didn’t organize a 40th, so I didn’t have to decide.  50th is still a while from now, so we’ll have to see.  I’d be inclined to let the past go...

No, our 20th was in 2019 and I considered going....but I've heard enough stories over the years about the fate of my old associates that I don't have it in me to hear of what happened to the others. I'm in no position worth bragging about, yet I'm doing much better than most I've heard of, it's depressing. I may attend the 30th, depending on the state of the world then, for no other reason to answer the question "Am I the only one of our age group still alive?"

Like @ChaoswolfI was out to sea for most of mine, but I did manage to make it my 10 year reunion.  It was ok, in that most of the people I still keep contact with were there so we hung out together and then saw some of the people that I hadn't seen since high school.

My 30 year reunion was supposed to be this year, and I was waffling on whether to go or not,  but as with most things COVID made the decision for me (in other words, it was cancelled).

NO! I was only close to a couple of people in high school & college, none of whom would be likely to attend a reunion.

AND I HATED my school experience.

yes. I went to a college reunion that was held by my dorm.  It was based on the founding of the building and maybe 13 years after graduation.

The "scholarship hall"  was 50 guys and it was a pretty tight circle.

There were only a few people I knew, most of whom I didn't like that much at the time.  But it was really great meeting all the new people  they felt like the people I knew while I was there.

and seeing how the traditions (some of which I was responsible for)  had changed, or stayed the same.

I was also neat finding out what the people I knew as freshmen/sophs had done after I left.  I quite enjoyed the trip.

I skipped all my HS reunions although I still keep in touch with a handful on FB, and the state college I went to was so large (27k)  that any reunion of the graduating class would be meaningless to me.

The rules: as they were last month (in addition to all regular forum rules) except where I sneakily changed them:

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question. †
1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day, a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, and random forum members are all chomping at the bit to step in and post one... ††
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
      3. Questions are going to be posted sometime before 1 AM Reaper time (US Central).
      4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to Talespinner or Morihalda…
      5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
      6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI).
      7. Weekend questions may take the form of two or three day quests, starting on Friday or Saturday.
      8. Pix always welcome.

The first question will need to be posted after a brief (10 minute) pause to foil the merging of posts.
The footnotes, because I can't resist doing †††footnotes:

      † I will aim for 0600 Reaper/Nottingham time.
††  If subs and backstops could wait until 11AM in Reaper/Denton's timezone to see if I remember.
      ††† …because I re-remembered how to do the dagger ( † ) symbol.
