haldir
Hey everyone, I got a interesting item in the mail today address to myself & my wife. It appears to be the 2nd COVID stimulus payment. I'm posting this to ask, it's a DEBIT CARD. The first payment was a paper check & since we don't do direct deposit for our tax returns we don't get it electronically. Is this how the 2nd payment is coming? I'd hate this to be a scam attempt at getting our accounts information. There is a link to the irs site on the papers enclosed with the card.( It's packaged similar like you were getting a new debit/credit card) The site is (www.irs.gov/EIP) which leads to this site: (https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payments). Any help would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: Ok, I did some digging on the EIP site & I came across this: Will my second payment be issued on a debit card (the EIP Card)? (added January 5, 2021) If the IRS doesn’t have routing and account information for you for a direct deposit, you will be sent either a check or debit card in the form of an EIP Card. I think this solves it. 6

Why it threw me a bit getting this blue(stars + blue part of the US flag) plastic card that looks one of those credit card offers from odd ball banks. Thou, those are usually address to a single person in the house, this letter & card itself has both our names on it.

Yes, it was my understanding that is how some people would get them. Glad to hear you got yours (finally got mine after IRS and H&R block resolved that whole routing issue, got it in my direct deposit and almost gone after paying off bills. Now for a 3D mars printer with what's left bwahahaha.)
BLZeebub
Yep, probably possibly legit. This page has a pic of the card (careful clicking strange links, but feel free to search for "2nd Stimulus Check" to see what it looks like if you don't want to click it). https://wgntv.com/news/second-stimulus-check-irs-urges-people-to-watch-mail-for-these-envelopes/ You got yours FAST though! Thought that hadn't gone through Congress yet. Looks like it was yesterday. Edited January 10, 2021 by BLZeebub

haldir
Plus, the initial payment, we didn't get forever it seemed. Seeing this as fast as we did was anther concern. Good to see its legit.
Unit04
My initial payment was via a debit card, and my second payment was by paper check. No idea why.
Lars Porsenna
I got mine via direct deposit. I was one of those people that had their deposit messed up. I only got mine on 9 January 2021. I really, really needed the money earlier. Damon.

I would hazard: Because bureaucracy. Ours actually arrived very quickly. Of course, as soon as I got it, I went and did something horribly responsible with it.

Pegazus
Got the card first round. Not counting on any second one arriving due to this year’s income. But, wanted to say that you can deposit the card’s balance to a bank account. Just have to do it in $500 chunks.

We never got a joint one when we got married. So we'll go about splitting ours up when we can. Too bad our son, turned 18 last year, thou it was in June. I can't recall if he was a dependent or not, tax-wise but the card has 600 x 2 on it for my wife & I. Reason I went ahead & activated it today was I thought I was going to be a tad short this week a day before payday, but after I confirmed the card I got a credit alert from my bank. I can live with that!!
Citrine
My son is turning 24 tomorrow, since he was a full time student last, no income, no stimulus check. We are giving him half of ours.
