JoeGKushner
So I have a king kong size gorilla. No clue how to paint it. I've seen some brown, some a near black that seem to have a touch of purple in them. Throw me some advice peeps.
BLZeebub
Pick your poison mate. Real G's come in all the colors you mentioned and others. You could do them as silverbacks or entirely grey even. White with purple/bluish flesh like yetis or samsquanches. Blackest black like the shade in the jungle. A blonde G would be neat too.
R2ED
Dude, if it's that big your going to need a paint gun and some scaffolding.
Great Khan Artist
@MoonglowMinis Ape Demon is pretty cool. I copied it on my version of this mini. I used a GW contrast paint on the fur and Rakarth flesh, pallid witch flesh and seraphim sepia on the body. I liked my version, it has a ourangatang vibe.

Study those and you'll notice a lot of colours you hadn't thought of. It reall helps. Even when you go for a fantasy colour you can see where to place darker and lighter versions.

I'd love to see your results! On 11/4/2020 at 9:55 AM, MoonglowMinis said: Here's a simple one for you today. Filling out my Demonic Army, we have a Barlgura, represented by an Ape Demon (77260). Here's the model @Great Khan Artist was referring to. This was a pretty quick and easy paintjob. I based the skin and the fur in a dark brown and a deep tan respectively. The fur got drybrushed with warm orangey-browns, maybe two birghter layers. The skin got highlighted with tans/fleshy colors. With such a bug flat area you want to try to use thinner colors to keep the blend as smooth as you can. 3 hours ago, Glitterwolf said: When painting animals, I always look at pictures of the real thing. I can't recommend this enough. Too often I have put a bunch of time into something only to end up dissatisfied because something "doesn't look right." Your memory is such an unreliable thing. Just look up reference pictures. Even if you intend on doing something unnatural. But it's essential for real-life animals. That pig is never as pink as you think, and the tiger is never as orange.
