Nice supportive base for a very heavy figure.  It gives it a very deadly dynamic look like it is just swooping down hopping off that rock.  The green color works.

Great wyvern, I really like the way the wings turned out, hard to do large surfaces like that (he said, staring at the big dragon in his box of shame).

@Poilu_1914 The wings felt like the hard part for sure! I saw an amazing example of this same Wyvern o.n this forum in which the wings were painted with a spotted patterning- but I knew for sure that was more than I could tackle!

 

I did do some thin layers, to get color variation and tried to be aware of how they would be shadowed. Overall ok with the results. :) 

@Darcstaar I didn’t realize until I had it assembled that I would need some kind of flight support base. Once I realized it, the search was on. The “rock” I ended up using is actually a piece of landscaping bark from my yard! It worked well, because I sunk the base rod down a little into it- with plenty of superglue. 
 

With some clear coat, moss and sand at the base, it worked very effectively. Thanks for noticing. :)

      Primer removal

      I can't begin to tell you how excited i am that my parents found these in the basement in some supplies i had stored.  These are Ral Partha models from 1988 to 1991. I bought them with my allowance back when i was like 9 or 10 and am thrilled to see these again.  I remember being so afraid to paint them because i didn't want to mess them up, that i never ever tried.  
       
      These are primed and need to be stripped. These are early pewter-white metal.  They even had packaging that read "now lead free". 
       
      What I'm wanting to do is savor the joy of painting them, now that I'm way more capable.  However...i need to get this crappy primer off of them.  These are 30+ years old and I'm blown away they look as good as they do.  
       
      Anyone have a solution that can strip this down to the metal?

      Hi everyone.  Got a couple more demons for you today.  This is a pair of Bones Fly Demons for use as Chasme in D&D.  These guys could also serve double duty as Giant Flies for Rangers of Shadow Deep.

      If anyone has any leads on other interesting giant fly minis please share them, as I've been finding it difficult to find good models for RoSD.

      Also, how do you paint insect wings?  They're such a unique feature in the animal kingdom and I'd love to see how you go about it?

      Continuing my posting spree. This beholder is the fist model I have printed and painted. I went for a very simple,  classic look, and I was really pleased with the bright purples. I have been enjoying MZ's catalog, but man, printing stuff is a lot of work.
       
      I really enjoy painting eyes, so this subject was a treat.The Spectator is now on my shortlist to paint thanks to the positive experience I had with the dodgeball of doom.

      Imps and Quasits (Bones Hordlings-77335, and Nolzur's)

      Every fiendish army needs tiny minions to throw through the meat grinders.  Today I've got some assorted imps and quasits (the demonic counterpart to imps for you non-D&D folk).
       
      First up,
      The Quasits

      These fun little guys are the grunts of the demonic legions.  The front two are Quasits from the Nolzur's Unpainted set "Imps & Quasits" #WZK73719.  The back three are Reaper Bones Hordlings (77335).

      Was definitely going cross-eyed after painting these tiny guys.

      Desert Wyvern (Reaper Bones 4)

      Hello again.  Here's another older paintjob of mine.  This is the wyvern from the Bones 4 Core set.

       
      My players encountered a flock of Wyverns while traversing a desert valley.  They were mounted on Giant Lizards and were chased by the wyverns.  What ensued was an Indiana Jones-esque chase complete with daring leaps from mount to mount.  All-in-all a good time.
       

       
      As such, I decided to paint this guy up to fit into an arid desert landscape.  Had a lot of fun blending the sculpted base into the rest of the base.  Also was really proud of the coloration I settled on for the Wyvern.
       

       
      I painted each scale individually, which was time consuming but worth it.  I also tried some different glazing and layering techniques to add veining into the wings.  Needless to say, I'm pretty proud of this one.  Wish I had snagged up Blacksting during the Kickstarter as well though.  Will have to get my hands on that one eventually.
