Went ahead and sealed everything, so tomorrow I should finally post some good pictures.20210218_001818.thumb.jpg.a311e04bd4aae08c5324f397d74b5c9b.jpg

The dumpsters and shipping container were also sealed but they're not quite finished. My plan is to finish them tomorrow and have some "good" pictures of them ready for Friday.

It wasn't all sealing however, I also nearly finished a few more scatter pieces too.

I actually did that too awhile back and for the same game even. I went the dollar store route however, using their succulents, wooden slats, and sand.   I've actually still got a lot of left

Now that I've knocked out a few smaller projects and got back into the groove of painting I think it's time to tackle something a little bigger. Now this project has been on my to do list for awhile b

Most nights I'm surprised by just how much I get done and this is certainly one of those nights, but hopefully you'll agree with me. After cleaning up the base rims on the objective markers I grabbed

As promised "nice" pictures of the finished pieces.20210218_220515.thumb.jpg.ca00710ee9befef9c43e64584805241a.jpg20210218_220526.thumb.jpg.f741804f8a383f4d5402fc58306a8ee8.jpg20210218_220537.thumb.jpg.bfe379b38bc02506313b2fcaff69fc16.jpg

The walls and toolboxes received their last couple colors too. I even managed to circle back to them later with sealer while I was finishing the dumpsters.

If that wasn't enough I also went ahead and started the next batch.

I'm a day late but here are the final pictures of the dumpsters and shipping container.

As you can see I did go back and resize the pointing fellow's head. Scale creep with the body necessitated the change but it really improved the final result; a happy little accident.

First up tonight are the final pictures of the toolboxes and collapsed walls.20210221_131312.thumb.jpg.27fdfeec22a75cd219cef79eb2303c22.jpg20210221_131337.thumb.jpg.125e28eacf348bbcb40128a829744779.jpg20210221_131436.thumb.jpg.785c91684575294a652794d66cde5eea.jpg20210221_131513.thumb.jpg.d7bd6c0f173b7cb468453415b2bc8f07.jpg

Getting a little work in throughout the day as well I managed to finish the giant eggs. Had some problems with wash consistancy but decided not to fight it as they're certainly passable at tabletop level.

Since I was painting brown bases anyway I also basecoated the next few pieces.

So this next set of pieces taught me something, it is pointless to repaint the fairy garden pieces. These pictures will just prove my point.20210222_233301.thumb.jpg.e423d641a9d2f71cab8f5689464cc5ef.jpg20210222_233310.thumb.jpg.37660967b3958e3eca58c0707d0dfd79.jpg

I'm sure if I had put more work into them they could really be something but that kind of defeats the point. These really only need a touch up as opposed to a full repaint. I could have easily achieved the exact same results if I had just thrown a wash over the original paintjob. Guess I'll just chalk this one up to overthinking.

The night wasn't completely disheartening though I did manage to finish a few more simple pieces.

20210222_234732.thumb.jpg.b6ba885294ee0e7d41916ceda90bd775.jpg

After I seal these tomorrow I'll be starting on the final small pieces. So it looks like the big showstoppers are just a few days away.

After a couple of very early nights due to not feeling well I'm back at it. First up was sealing everything from the last batch. Armed with a new sealer brush this task was way faster and easier too. Plus doing it at the start of a session also afforded me the opportunity to flock the bases at the end once everything was dry.20210225_223747.thumb.jpg.41d5bc044f68ab316c98978b33b683c2.jpg

With sealing (and even flocking) taking almost no time I also started the last of the small pieces. As my plan for these is nothing more than a heavy drybrush at the end they painted up very quickly.

Unfortunately it looks like I won't be hitting my weekend goal of starting the bigger pieces. At least I've got a good reason for once though, that's certainly a change.

No actual progress tonight but I thought I'd post the final pictures from the last batch. 20210228_202500.thumb.jpg.8b687f8ada9d6e869b89f7aa9ad8508a.jpg20210228_202523.thumb.jpg.bb71a220f89379a5d19ffb63c6b36783.jpg

Oddly enough I've even used the wooden raft already. It made for a really nice trapdoor in my latest game of Rangers of Shadowdeep. Knowing that it can proxy so well I definitely see me getting a few more in the future.

A heavy drybrush which took almost no time at all was enough to finish the last batch of assorted stone pieces. 20210301_221920.thumb.jpg.5ef3040ede6dc55edfe58b532d005e49.jpg20210301_221939.thumb.jpg.5ea894f2563c357f0ab668ed6727b1eb.jpg

Seeing as I was already painting stone anyway I went ahead and started on the first of the bigger stone pieces too. The wash step seemed like a natural place to stop for the night. 20210301_222042.thumb.jpg.84fed51879c8246a58b00f18b8fe07aa.jpg20210301_222424.thumb.jpg.6588f3ad3caa1d95c6cfd9d50b7facb8.jpg

* I also painted the fertility idol alongside these pieces but won't be showing it as I don't feel like linking images from an outside webpage.

23 hours ago, Great Khan Artist said:

The broken cocoon is my favorite. The vile liquid in the bottom is just perfect.

Thanks, I can say it came out a lot better than I expected. I'll definitely do a lot of things differently if I ever make another though.

Managed to finish a couple more pieces tonight. Admittedly not very impressive when all that was left to do was give everything a heavy drybrush, but they're finished all the same.20210303_224910.thumb.jpg.64a6cd38da6bdfb541925cda03dd1c19.jpg20210303_224920.thumb.jpg.636422021b1715822346f6ed19c38dc9.jpg20210303_225056.thumb.jpg.7f11f787664f8925ed97555da41d9227.jpg20210303_225121.thumb.jpg.a728943a0eab25ca7981abe5b561c407.jpg

I even started the first two "big" pieces as well. 20210304_012337.thumb.jpg.78a30dafa8d42bb5c2eb97e8ef26f4ba.jpg

The two big pieces recieved their finishing touches during the day so I was able to seal everything all at once before calling it a night.20210304_221217.thumb.jpg.bff65fc909348947422a68fb33560d51.jpg

With any luck I'll be posting all the final pictures tomorrow.

I also finally started painting my slightly modified Baba Yaga hut. It's not much mostly just blocking out colors trying to see how much wood variation it can take before looking insane, but its progress nonetheless.

I've been waiting to post this until I have enough, but I've just been working on random pieces of scatter terrain in between other projects.

Any 3D printed parts are done on my Creality Ender 3.

      Trees from EC3D
      .

      Trees from Dark Realms

Barrel, +3 Barrel of Sundering (Warhammer props)

Wood bundle, Alchemist's Table and Shelf from Vae Victis, I've honestly forgotten who the other designs were from.

"The beacons are lit!  Gondor calls for aid!"

      Beacon Tower from RMPrintables

Lounge Chair from Impact! Miniatures, awning from Warhammer, weapon pile from The Hobbit, treasure piles from Reaper Miniatures.

Fantasy Objective Tokens by PhysUdo on Thingiverse.

Ogre Totem from Warhammer, Town Fountain 3D print from unknown, Alchemist's Wares & Firestick Bundle from Vae Victis, Sandbags by MegaBlox, one tree/odd plant is an old Marauder Giant club and the other is from a Gandalf action figure.

Last week my wife and I started a Ghost Archipelago campaign; for anyone interested I already wrote up a battle report here. Unfortunately that game showed me just how small my fantasy terrain collection really is. The prospect of playing a campaign on a half filled table didn't sit well, so I got to work.

A few hours over a couple of nights yielded good results.

A couple of winter pieces for regular Frostgrave even made it into the mix. Unfortunately I'm out of snow at the moment so they're not quite done.

Awhile ago I came across a terrain tutorial video about building barrels and thought I'd give it a go. After the initial steps of collecting water bottle/soda lids, gluing them together, and even priming them the project came to a halt. Well after a couple months of staring at a bag of primed bottle caps I finally got back to work.

The next step in the build was to create an actual lid/opening in the top of the barrel. This required two pieces; it needed a small bead and a slightly larger round piece to glue the bead onto (in the tutorial the builder used small wooden discs they found at a craft store). I knew that my wife already had plenty of beads that would be perfect but that small round disc had me stumped.

That's when I finally remembered that inside my wife's craft bin she had a hole punch. Since I started basing my models and began building a little terrain I've been collecting a lot of random household brick a brack, including baby formula tins and lids. You know where I'm going with this and I think the picture speaks for itself.

Now that I finally had all the pieces I began gluing the discs and beads to the top of the barrels. After a little gunmetal grey I'm pretty impressed with how good they look and how quick they can be made (quick provided you don't spend too much time thinking about a single piece). I placed some Games Workshop barrels behind them for comparison.

I'm pretty sure this build came from Terrain Tutorial but I'm not positive (I did see the video quite a while ago). Either way I just want to say this wasn't my idea at all, I simply followed the steps I happened to remember from a youtube video I watched so long ago that I can't remember who did it. I'm grateful however for this simple and cheap terrain and will be making a ton of them over the next few days.

Battle Systems is launching their second Kickstarter for Sci-Fi terrain on October 21, 2016.
These are the folks that have had previous kickstarters making good looking card stock terrain for Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Post-apocalyptic genres.
