Better late than never.

Here's some fun Pumpkin Horrors I painted up for @Inarah for Secret Sophie this past December.  I was still riding on my Halloween spirit when Secret Sophie began, but wanted to do something that fit the winter theme.  Inspired by the snowman-like design of the Pumpkin horrors and my own past mistakes of leaving pumpkins outside to rot all winter, I decided to do a holiday mashup with these guys left out in the cold too long.

With some time having passed, I wish I would have made them look a bit rotten and frost-bitten, but I also like the more colorful result.

The first Horror is pretty simple.  Though I do find it odd that he's wearing an extra pumpkin atop his head.  He did have the best design for the snow accumulation on his back though.

The witchy horror gave me some trouble in finding a suitable color for her hat.  But otherwise fairly simple.

And finally the fancy horror.  A bit of flashing was hanging off of his hat brim that just seemed perfect as an icicle.

I noticed while working on them how they could easily represent pumpkin versions of Lock, Shock, and Barrel from the Nightmare Before Christmas.  If I were to do them again I might lean into that.

These were some fun minis and my first time working with metal.  I have now broken the seal and have started looking into other minis that I previously considered off-limits.  I also enjoyed participating in Secret Sophie and joining in to some of the forum shenanigans.  I highly recommend participating in these kinds of things for any who have been reticent.

What are some of your favorite holiday minis?

Love it and it is great that you had the foresight to get these done 8 months early.  Well done.

They were done in November and sent in December.  I just didn't get around to editing photos for awhile.  Thought about waiting until it was seasonal again but didn't feel like waiting! XD

They are wonderful, thank you. I really love the "frost on the pumpkin" vibe they have going on.  They have a place of honor in my display cabinet, and I am looking forward to putting them on the table in some future weird Halloween game.

Reaper has some leprechauns that are fun. I don't see them painted too often.

I'm glad you liked them!  If you ever find a gaming use for them I'd love to hear about it!

I'll have to check out those leprechauns!

That was what set them apart for me...the frost that is. It is a WONDERFUL imaginative touch to a trio of SPLENDIDLY painted Horrors. VERY WELL DONE!

Still needs some basing, but he's off to a good start.

      Interesting how this worked out.
I did dry brushing on the first two layers of greens.
Then went back in with regular brush and layers, but didn't think it was loud enough.  What this?  A huge stock pile of BCA pink?  Better put it to use.  I mixed that into the alien green and base, then touched it up with pink to add some warmth (i mean as warm as aghast should be #dead) in the highlights.  Pink and green were a fun combo.

I'm not totally into the tattered shirt colors the more i look at it.  I may need to use a wash over it, which i try to avoid, to add some dirt/grime look to it.  It's too clean and vibrant. But hey, i did layer nicely. Win.

I wasn't sure about the facial features.  I ended up just touching it up with a little green yellow for discoloration around the mouth, but seems like he still needs something.

Next thing i need to do is make a fun base for him.  Something Halloween feeling for sure.  Thanks @Reaper_Jonfor the ghoulie bags and free minis.  Putting them to good use.

This one took a lot more time than i planned.  2.5 nights of work.  The killer of it was all the layers with translucent paint.  Keeping them thin to not get streaking was difficult.   But i did it and it's done.

Proud moment for me is the eye.

      Done!

This one is taking me forever!

I'm at a standstill with doing this eyeball. I also can't tell if i need to change the weird yellow i did around the eye.  I'm also struggling with the pumpkin lights in the heads.

Overall I'm struggling and need suggestions.

      Here's where I'm at:

Just in time for the season!
I happened to be going through some sort of a creativity crisis.  I would start on a figure and almost right away stop feeling it.
This guy seemed to shake me up quiet nicely.  Although, I did get tired at the end and rushed a few things.  But, as I remember, the profys recommend "paint more minis" as oppose to sitting over one for eternity trying to get it to perfection.

Jake is looking for someone who enjoys Halloween movies as much as he does! Jake was originally released as a special edition figure for Halloween 2015. He was sculpted by Bob Ridolfi.

Since Reaper Miniatures has re-released some of the unavailable Bonesylvanians for Halloween2021, I thought I would share some additional views of the ones I painted, as well as the colours I used.

(Note that these figures are metal and sold individually. Not all of the Bonesylvanians originally released in 2014-2015 were made into Bones plastic versions.)
