Starfinder: Attack of the Swarm pbp

Any interest? Since I don't GM Starfinder here at home (no interest) but I'd like to freshen up my GM skills for it, I thought I'd see if anyone wanted to try it out.

As quoted from the paizo page for the 1st AP book "Starfinder Adventure Path #19: Fate of the Fifth (Attack of the Swarm! 1 of 6)"

"As the ever-ravenous threat of the insectile Swarm surges across another system in the Vast, the heroes are part of the defense effort. They must fight back against waves of foes and rescue civilians, including a shirren priest of Hylax whose temple seems to be of particular interest to the invaders. By relying on their wits—and each other—the heroes just might survive the Swarm onslaught.

You'll be part of the 5th Battalion of SDF, (Suskillion Defense Force). The SDF is a unified military for the entire Suskillon system, whose mission is the defense of our home world of Suskillon and any outlying regions, by means of deterrence and direct conflict when necessary. You have chosen an exciting and dangerous time to join the SDF, as Suskillon needs every capable hand to drive back the ravening hunger of the Swarm.

The Suskillon system is outside the Pact World system in the default setting for Starfinder. The swarm are insect like race bent on consuming whatever comes across their path!

There is a Players Guide of sorts in the first AP book. I'll have that up on my Google Drive for any interested players. Probably looking for 4 to 5 players with the possibility of a 6th if interest is high. Character creation can be made using any official Paizo Starfinder book.

Post here if your interested!!

I am interested but never had an opportunity to play Starfinder so I am not familiar with the rules.

I plan to sit in on one of the demo games at ReaperVrtual to get an overview before digging into the core rulebook.

Do you anticipate a need for players to have more than the core rulebook for your game?

You can easily get by with just the Core book. It has the main classes, the main races (Starfinder kinda suffers from racial glut, as most everything can be a player race).

I forgot to link a post but this site:

https://www.aonsrd.com/ (just click the Starfinder logo).

Starfinder is sorta pre Pathfinder 2ed rules as allot of things in it was used in 2nd edition.

I had the opportunity to play around with Star tinder at Reaper Virtual and see what you mean about racial glut.  Even one of the folks from Paizo commented that he doubted anyone knew how many races there are since it keeps growing.  Seems like having so many possible PC races would be tough for the GM.

Yah I would have rather they just stuck with the Core book (+ the fantasy races) as races for the PCs. Thou Sf has been out for a few years now. One of the reason why I only stick with official releases. I'm pretty sure there are some great non Paizo offerings out there, just too many to keep up.

Yea, i have to agree.  Maybe if you have something specific in mind, you might bring in some specific material but I dont think anyone could allow it all in and just hope for the best.

I plan on playing a Ysoki Engineer with his sidekick drone Pip.  (to give credit to whoever designed the core races, I love them.  my favorite is the mice but i enjoy playing the lizards and the locusts too.  We had one game where I was playing a Shirren adventurer and we ran into part of the shirren hoard; that was a weird encounter...)  Each race is very different and has a lot to offer.  About the only class i havent been able to wrap my head around is the mystic.  when i tryed to play that, i wound up just going with a classic pathfinder cleric because it was a more useful class to me.but overall i really like the system

I saw this and registered just to apply, I would love to participate as Starfinder is a game I really enjoy, and Attack of the Swarm is my favorite AP, I love the Aliens, Starship Troopers, and Band of Brother's vibe it can throw off.  I would likely be playing some sort of soldier or operative, just to be a grunt, and hopefully you would allow us to play as Suskillon natives, I find it adds so much to the character to actually care about the innocents on planet, or be looking for their family and friends among the refugees and evacuees.

Are we open to the class options from the Character Operations manual?  I'd be sticking to a core race, either android, human or vesk in any case.  Let me know and I will get something statted up!

Happy to have you aboard. I have no problem with a native, helps tie the players to the setting.

Ok we have 4 people, that enough to start. If someone else wants to join up later, I'll allow them in.

I'll get the "player's guide" (it's a section in the book) up onto my Google Drive sometime this week for everyone that is interested. Other then that feel free to make characters!!

There are 2 themes in the Swarm book that might be of interest to people.

Battle Medic

Career Trooper

Yes, feel free to use this book.

I'm not sure what the group composition is, but having played through about 1/4 of the 1st book, I would *highly* suggest we have some way of mitigating HP damage.  Stamina is fairly easy to replenish if we have the time & resolve to do so, which won't always be the case.  An Envoy or Mystic, even if of a more martial connection, would be useful.  I noted a couple mentions of mechanic, and as a high Intelligence class with Medicine as a trained skill, they could conceivably keep us going with Treat Deadly Wounds, but I would suggest we stock up on Healing Serums where possible.

I've reconsidered my initial proposal, as I typically jump into either the Soldier or Solarian class, which are, by far my favorites.  However, I am thinking of playing a technomancer, to bring some damage to the crew and help the mechanic with computer & engineering skill checks.  I'm thinking of going with the Prisoner theme, a guy who was offered a position in the SDF, or to be left in his cell while the Swarm attacked.
