Ratticus assumes everyone knows him and his exploits and will never deny free publicity, something that has caused him to do some fast talking to avoid prison in the past.  He could have worked with or Done work for anyone In the group before this and if you were on the same shuttle and didn't run fast enough you know all about that little Yoski and his escapades

He's a little desperate to be noticed but on the whole friendly and likable

Background on Doc Oward: Like all Telia of Pre-Gap birth he lost his memories of the past. He appeared to be approximately 100 years old at the time, so that is what he claims. He and his two best friends, Doctors Phyne And Holwart, traveled among worlds with the Doctors Without Borders. They were on Suskillon when the Swarm hit. His partners were killed when the Aid Station they were at was overrun by the Swarm. He "volunteered" as he shot his way out of two previous attacks and is now an unranked member of the Suskillon Forces.

Alright, PC relations in Vitharyan's own words ...

Gustav Bach?  Yeah, I know him, we came up together at Fort Gallant together, infiltration, surveillance, and counter intelligence.  Other trainees pegged him for a transfer from a non-comm unit, Field Sanitation, but he made the transfer to S2 with the rest of us.  Scored reasonably well, but ended up on a desk in Threat Analysis, shame, I thought he'd make a good field operative given a chance.  Real disciplined though, that one, by the book, could quote regulations and subsections to you all day, me?  I prefer to get things done.  Either way, he's got SDF tags, so he's my brother, hope he got out before the Swarm overran his office.

Ratticus Maus, isn't that the ysoki with the infosphere blog?  Think my mother dealt with him just before I enlisted, something about an antennae on the emitter array for Drachovya's planetary relay.  He fixed it, efficient enough, but he insisted on streaming the whole thing, I think she called him arrogant and self entitled, something that I tend to agree with.  However, he does good work, the relay was still running up until the incursion.  So if he's volunteered with the SDF and been assigned to our unit, I have to trust the brass have something specific in mind.  I just hope he can keep his head down and doesn't get anyone killed for his own ego.

Ra'astar Komas Ta-Naton, a kashathan pilgram who ended up on Suskillon.  I've never been one for religion, or mysticism, but what I have seen him do with his solar connection is pretty impressive.  He's respectful to the people around him and people listen to him, it's useful to have someone that other's look to, it prevents them from looking at, or for, me.  Regardless of his introspective, philosophic leanings, he volunteered with the SDF, aiding Suskillon in her time of need, and that, in, and of itself, is worthy of respect.

Doc Oward?  The Telia are hard to read, having lived for centuries, with all the life knowledge and experience that would go with that.  I do know he came to Suskillon with a medical relief program, helping some Shirren pilgrams with some sort of parasitic fungus that affected their chitin.  Now he was stationed in the north on the shores of the Stone Sea, so six months ago when the Swarm pushed through the SDF's orbital defenses, the medical staff needed to be evacuated.  So they sent me and my Squad in, the vexxers hit them hard though, and we could only get Oward out, more than half my squad, and about 90% of his staff went down to the Vexxers.  However, despite the loss of his colleagues, he patched me and my boys up, and we were able to get out of there when so many others weren't able to.  I owe him for that, and it's a debt I don't intend to take lightly.

I took some liberties in establishing ties, trying to make it feel organic, peruse the entries, let me know if I missed anything, or ended up mis-characterizing your character, and I can change modify or edit as required.  I am just excited to be able to play soon!

Spotting his young friend, Doc walked over to Vitharyan, the big Vesk towering over most others. The Corporal spotted him and flashed his teeth in to most would be a frightening display, but Doc recognized as a Vesk grin. "Bend down here and let me see your neck" and Vitharyan grinned again pulling his armor back form the recently healed scar. "Good, it's healed well, and left you a nice battle scar. How did that tall blue striped lady like that?" he grinned back at the big fellow. "Ah, she got sent back to her original unit before we could fully explore that possibility, but she comes from a very good family, very honorable, so I will try to follow up once things settle down."

"Have you heard anything besides rumors yet?" "Nothing worth that empty coffee cup you're carrying."

Doc decided to head over to the Med tent to see if there was anything of information to be learned, maybe even help out  a bit as he was getting nervous....not a good thing in a Telia...a bad omen...

As usual, Ra'astar is up with the dawn, giving thanks to first rays of lifegiving light and meditating on the history of his people and his place within the cosmos.  Then it is an hour or two practicing the Kasathan Battle Dance, first the traditional forms, then those sited to his personal style.  Finally he reflects upon the new traditions that he has learned here on Suskillon, weighting their merits in his mind for inclusion into his own personal set of traditions.

By this time, the mess tent should be open, and it is time to fuel his body for the days tasks.  Breakfast is evidently the most important meal of the day according to the posters in the mess tent, and it would be remiss of him to ignore such a fine tradition.

The only thing rattucus is doing at dawn is curling deeper into his sleeping gear and grumbling about why we can't look for things in or around civilization

Smartest member of the party so far!

Gustav awakes with the same feeling of dread that has haunted him since he first learned of the approach of the swarm.  He once again looks over battle reports hoping there will be some good news for a change .

Until now, Gustav was able to see structure and rules even in the chaos of war.  Even in the darkest days of the conflict between the Veskarium and the Pact Worlds there were rules  of conduct that provided predictability and hope that the conflict would end.

Having studied the previous swarm invasion, Gustav believes the swarm has no code constraining their actions.  Because it places no value on individuals only it’s collective “hive mind”, it can send a thousand creatures into a hopeless assault with as little concern as a human trimming a fingernail.

Hey my dudes, opening vignettes are cool and all, but shouldn't they go in the IC channel *after* @haldir opens it for RP?

I posted my characters thoughts and opinions on his squad mates in the hopes ya'll would do the same, so we could start to see those relationship form within the unit.  But we swerved into straight RP that will get lost once we start in the proper thread.  So I'm just confused as to where I should be posting.

Well, I posted something very general here since others seemed to be doing that sort of as a prequel to the game. Given how general the postings are I don’t think it will matter if they get lost when we start posting in the IC thread.   Once @haldir posts more information on the setting, we can be a bit more specific about our characters actions which I think should supersede anything posted in this thread especially if the setting differs from what the posts seem to assume.

We all read both sides, its cool by me.  As long as the mechanics stay in the playing section, i see no reason not to include backstory and vignettes as desired here.  The more there is for the GM to work with the better the storyline will be in the main line.  I havent been putting much here because I was thinking that Ratticus thought he would be rolling in after the swarm had left to do repairs and recovery and look good on his blog doing it.  He has been seen on Absolon station posing on the drift rock, he has fixed the thermal dispersion spikes at the top of the station and he has helped little micelings across the street.  all in front of the camera and all with the purpose of looking important.

Due to the vaguries of the drift (and the plot) He finds himself on the planet, before the swarm arrives.  this was not his plan, but given he has a good idea what will happen if he doesnt do something, he joins the effort to divert the swarm.  Pip is his AI companion and stealth drone that records his activities and publishes his encounters manages that sort of thing for him and got him included with what looks like a pretty good recon team and he is excited (as only a Yoski can get) about helping out (and looking good in the process!)  He's excited and ready to help but really doesn't have much more than an invitation to hang out at this point so i imagining him hanging out in the cafeteria with his new squad listening to tales and forming opinions, looking forward to when he can really make a difference

While I am thinking of it.... Will we be using any formatting conventions for posts to the IC thread?  Last time I played a pbf game, the GM asked that we put PC actions and thoughts in colored text, PC speech in colored italic and OOC such as request for checks and die rolls in plain black text.
