Friday, March 12: What is your favorite weather to see? Would you want to be outside at the time?

My favorite weather is something like this:
20210312_IMG_1034.thumb.jpg.a2e8eaf9cc61233ea49c285adae58aa5.jpg

Sunny with some nice clouds to give a break from the sun (I usually call them "Simpson's clouds" since they look like the opening from the show) , warm but not too hot,  a breeze but not too windy, and all over a race track about to be filled with bikes or cars....

Crisp sunny fall days with the leaves in full splendor is a close second, but apparently racers want "grip" so the track closes for the year before we get down to crisp temperatures.....

It is the only acceptable time.

Does it have to be a current photo? I have taken numerous such shots — phone is filled with them.

Weekend Quest: Take a photo of the weather!

I am a Spring showers & Summer thunderstorm Guy. Walking through a light Spring rain or watching a dramatic thunderstorm from have been favorites since I was a boy.

Back then watching the lightning display took place either on my porch of my boyhood home or the solarium in the Catskill place.

There seems to be a good possibility of a walk in the rain today:

I'm with @malefactus on those summer thunderstorms, enjoyed from a covered porch. The sort of storm that blows in on a just a little too hot day, bringing a refreshing breeze, big heavy rain drops, and loud booms of thunder.

Spring thunder storm is probably my favorite. I despise real hot weather, which is what our summers are like here. No rain in sight & lately smoke in the air, give me spring weather! I do like warm no rain weather for spray painting as it's kinda hard to do that kinda thing when you've got droplets on whatever your trying to paint.

Currently it's clear here. Daybreak blue sky is in air, I didn't see any clouds in the area when I let the bunny out. Supposed to be close to 60 today!!

Most of it. I love weather of most kinds, though since I've owned a home there are a few kinds that stress me out a bit more (flooding, limbs falling, etc).

Not sure I have a favorite. How do you choose between a quiet snowy afternoon, with big fat flakes lazily drifting through the air and a cool autumn morning with color everywhere and the fields heavy with fog, deer heads occasionally popping out of it to scan for predators? A sunny summer day, radio blasting a good rock song and your love smiling at you from the passenger seat as you drive into the mountains, versus a gentle warm spring rain that compliments a warm cuppa and a good book?

I try to encourage people to see the beautiful gift of nature that surrounds us every day. Too many people will complain about the weather, no matter what. If you look for fault, you'll find it...but if you look for beauty, you just may find that, too. And what a difference that makes.

I love storms, but I don't want to be outside in them. My favorite weather is October in Arkansas. Just cool enough at night, just warm enough during the day. October in  Arkansas is the payoff for all the rest of the crappy weather.

I love watching big storms. I like to see the clouds approaching, see the different kinds of clouds depending on how powerful the storm is or what part of it is overhead.  Thunder, lightning, hail, love it. I love snowstorms and blizzards that whip in sideways,  and complete white outs, and thunder snow.  If I'm near water I do enjoy seeing the waves churning from the wind and having the spray in my face.  Nature is beautiful and powerful, and dangerous, and endlessly fascinating.  Except today we have boring grey skies and calm air. Blah.

Different answers for different times and different reasons.

  • I like a good summer evening thunderstorm. Witnessing the spectacular power of nature while under dry cover as lightning bolts light up the sky while I count the seconds between lightning and thunder.
  • I like a simple sunny autumn day where fluffy clouds alternate with open sky, making the temperature alternate from cool to warm without going to extremes.
  • I like an evening snow fall without wind. The snow on the ground muffles sound and the snowflakes diffuse lamp post lights in peaceful comforting warm glow.
  • I like a dawn fog where bands of condensation hug the ground as sunrays slowly warms them up.

Rain!

I don't know why, but I really love the rain. It's just so serene and calming, in my opinion, and I love it.

And absolutely I'd want to be outside!

Sunny and 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, with just a hint of high altitude clouds and maybe a light breeze. Which is a great time to be outdoors. Of course, I like being outdoors in just about any weather.

I'll get back to you on the photo of the weather later in the weekend.

THE ABSOLUTELY BEST thunderstorm I witnessed happened in the Catskills when I was a boy. We had just returned from the movies, a sneak preview of The Ten Commandments, when the storm rolled in. I watched in the solarium with my Grandpa & my Great uncle...it was a religious experience as well as a light show.

That first, proper rainstorm of spring is always lovely, especially that delightful wet earth smell that accompanies it.  I'd say I'd love to go for a walk in such, especially since our neighbourhood has so many trees, but I also forgot to mention the second half of such that makes me so happy - the nice, thirty minute thunderstorm that starts a little ways into said storm, and you don't want to be out walking during such!

The best one for me was on top of the Shenandoah Mountains back in 2012 when a derecho rolled through shorty after we arrived at the cabin site. We'd unpacked the car, then gone up to the dinning hall for dinner. The walk from the cabin to the dining hall wasn't long, but the view down in the valley was stunning, and the wind had picked up even in the few minutes it took us to unload. We could see the wall of clouds moving across the valley, and the lighting flashing in them. Watching the clouds block out the sun... then watching the power go out and seeing it all go dark under the clouds, while we were watching the setting sun. As we got into the dining hall, the power on the mountain failed. We still got dinner (thankfully they had a gas grill in the kitchen, as we watched the storm rage around us through the windows. The worst of it moved off. We weren't charged for dinner (burgers) since the registers and credit card machines were all down. Getting back to the cabins, the corgis were remarkably quiet but big eyed. Poor beasts...

Last week it was starting to warm up, all the streets were finally becoming bare.

...............and then 6 inches of snow fell last weekend. This is something to be expected in Saskatchewan, here is a handy reference chart for those that are unfamiliar with our weather:

The rules: as they were last month (in addition to all regular forum rules) except where I sneakily changed them:

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question. †
1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day, a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, and random forum members are all chomping at the bit to step in and post one... ††
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
      3. Questions are going to be posted sometime before 1 AM Reaper time (US Central).
      4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to Talespinner or Morihalda…
      5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
      6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI).
      7. Weekend questions may take the form of two or three day quests, starting on Friday or Saturday.
      8. Pix always welcome.

The first question will need to be posted after a brief (10 minute) pause to foil the merging of posts.
The footnotes, because I can't resist doing †††footnotes:

      † I will aim for 0600 Reaper/Nottingham time.
††  If subs and backstops could wait until 11AM in Reaper/Denton's timezone to see if I remember.
      ††† …because I re-remembered how to do the dagger ( † ) symbol.
