Seasons? You get seasons?!

We get .. cold, cold and wet, holycrap what is all this white stuff, pleasantly cool, and too hot to human. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of 'seasons' involved.

Nonsense! You get FLOWERS! Flowering trees, daffodils, tulips, rhododendrons, lilies... I miss spring flowers.

Friday, March 19: It’s the Spring/Fall Equinox this weekend! Do you celebrate or notice the changing of the seasons?

Weekend Quest: Spend a few minutes outside enjoying the our new season or discover some live bird or animal cams! Feel free to share other ones. :)

While I don't celebrate it formally, I love the seasons. Living in southern CA almost killed my soul, just nonstop sun. No thankee! I love my 4 seasons living here in upstate. Having four distinct seasons brings a natural rhythm to life, it connects you to the cycles of nature, of life and death.

I'm not ready for winter to end yet, though. The coming of spring brings with it spring chores, which will persist until old man winter draws his frigid cloak over us once again. Winter chores are just keeping the driveway cleared and making sure the roof load isn't getting out of control. Clearing the driveway is just a 15-min task done sporadically as it snows. For contrast, mowing my lawn takes me about 2 hours front to back and needs to be done weekly. Spring is the return of the chore taskmaster. Less time for games, music, art, etc...

Anyway, I wondered why mama cardinal was chirping up a storm outside my window this morning. Hailing spring!

I don't really celebrate with any marked thing or whatnot.  Well, unless we're talking the May long weekend, where typically I'll start purchasing paint afterwards...

Does having to walk to the post office count for this?  Because I shipped my coffee to the post office.

The weather is supposed to be pretty nice both days, so we'll likely be spending a good chunk of time in the park.

I've noticed it's still daylight at 7pm.  My crocus came up a week or two ago and got battered by the first storms. Now the hyacinth are starting to bloom.  I usually buy a new bulb every year and plant it after it flowers, but I have not seen any for sale this spring.

You mean that stuff that makes my eyes burn?

It's a little chill today but tomorrow is supposed to be warm and sunny, a perfect day to stay inside and have an RPG session all afternoon.

Notice?  Yes.

Celebrate?  Nahh, not really. Particularly Winter giving up to let Spring take over.

I am pretty happy when Fall budges Summer out of the way. So I guess Thanksgiving is sort of celebrating that.

Notice? Yes.

Celebrate? it depends.

Of course, noticing was easy up in New England/upstate New York. We'll have to see what it's like here in Texas.

Sounds like you need to replace your lawn with a something that doesn’t need to be mowed!

Easter has always been a holiday for celebrating spring, what with cute baby animals and all. Gotta market to 'em all! I celebrate Easter, so I guess I'm guilty too. My old dog and I went on a walk during winter solstice a few years ago and found a really neat spot in the field. We called it Solstice Ridge. Unfortunately, since we sold the farm, we've been unable to visit. We were going to go there every winter solstice.

We're farmers, so we certainly notice the seasons. The first indicators of spring is that the bees start coming around. They really like No Name brand yellow chip bags. Then we start seeing the gophers and the eagles pass through as the snow melts. The creek opens up about St. Paddy's day every year. My boss gets on his little tractor and harrows the truck yard. The birds start to come through the wetlands behind my house. Geese, swans and ducks are there now. Then the hawks and the frogs come out and the grass starts to green up.

We do get wet snowstorms occasionally. There was a really big one when I was a baby. The RCMP went to my grandpa's house, dug out the front door and made him go downtown to open the hotel for stranded travelers.

It is to laugh. ::D: Laugh all you like.

But I have ended up with a backyard that is about 8 inches deep in plants, plants that are green. Grass will turn green, only if you water it, and fertilize it, and mow it to keep it from growing over 8 inches, and it gets enough sun. Get any one of those wrong and the grass turns brown.

A lot of my weeds are clover. I just let them do what they do. They turn green.

(I don't water, or fertilize, or mow…)

Also the backyard is shaded on three sides by trees and on the West by the house, so the grass that was there was fighting a losing battle to live.

(Grass = Overrated)

The rules: as they were last month (in addition to all regular forum rules) except where I sneakily changed them:

      1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question. †
1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day, a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, and random forum members are all chomping at the bit to step in and post one... ††
      2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
      3. Questions are going to be posted sometime before 1 AM Reaper time (US Central).
      4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to Talespinner or Morihalda…
      5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
      6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI).
      7. Weekend questions may take the form of two or three day quests, starting on Friday or Saturday.
      8. Pix always welcome.

The first question will need to be posted after a brief (10 minute) pause to foil the merging of posts.
The footnotes, because I can't resist doing †††footnotes:

      † I will aim for 0600 Reaper/Nottingham time.
††  If subs and backstops could wait until 11AM in Reaper/Denton's timezone to see if I remember.
      ††† …because I re-remembered how to do the dagger ( † ) symbol.
