April First — (This series of Questions inspired by Thoramel†) : What is your favorite Baseball Team?

If it is not the Cincinnati Reds, how can Thoramel convince you otherwise?

Without looking it up have you ever heard of the mighty Sidd Finch, a pitcher who did not play for the Reds?

If baseball is not a much of a thing in your locale, what have you been getting up to this April 1st??

Baseball makes me crazy. I feel bad for the pitcher, how many times does he have to throw that thing before the other guy decides to hit it? No other sport is like that. And the pyjamas are funny and the spitting is gross. I actually prefer curling to baseball.

Right now I'm singing "Happy Kitty" to my fur fam in bed.

Dithering, dithering, dithering...

You all responded so magnificently with suggested questions I am spoiled for choice. Not to worry, new question coming  in a bit.

Edit: I decided on a question suggested by @Sylverthorne. We almost had a question suggested by a dream I woke up from, instead I have saved it to the list.

Hopefully, unlike baseball, we will not need moderator intervention to discuss today’s topic.

Good Friday everybody.

Question April Second  Desserts! What is the most interesting thing ever offered to you for dessert??

The family joke is that any dessert my sister tries to make will be "interesting", in the sense that she has a history of spectacular failures. She was doing "Cake Disasters" or any other type of dessert twenty years before it was a thing. Even her friends and own children mock her for it as even her youngest manages recipes better than her.

Her only saving grace was that hungry teenaged boys will eat anything.

She solidly secured her reputation in the 90s by doing something called "Floating Islands", except her islands looked like they got hit by a tsunami.

Question April Second  Desserts! What is the most interesting thing ever offered to you for dessert??

hmm

So in college I lived in a dorm with 50 guys and we were responsible for doing the cooking, and cleaning.  We would sign up for  same task for the semester.  One week the Dessert cook forgot to make anything.  So about 10 of the the guys picked him up an threw him in a nearby fountain.  because um yeah, thats what we did (happened to me twice)

The next time the cook had to make dessert, the Chemistry Major baked a large very pink Jell-O heart as an apology.

with a note, as he was no where to be found.

When the heart was cut open it bled, thick, dark red sugary sauce it was practically a gel.

it was also terrible to the taste.

when he got back from his class, we threw him in the fountain again.

Nothing particularly bizarre, like chilled monkey's brain, is coming to mind, so I'm going to go with a lame 'don't know/can't remember'.

Grapefruit sorbet, which I had on vacation in europe.  Fresh and home made, it was amazing. Nothing at all like the sickly sweet nasty sorbets and sherbets sold in the US.  I couldn't figure out what it was at first, but I couldn't stop eating it either.

Oh, and we had this one in France, which was a moulded ice cream ring, dusted with cinnamon, and had liquor poured over it and set on fire. Very interesting combination of ice cream, and caramelized liquor, with spices.  Would love to have one again.

I had some kind of chocolate thing in Italy. I have no idea what it was called. It was served in a cup, and it was not quite solid. It was pretty delicious, but I don't expect my palate could handle that kind of sweets these days.

Nothing unusual. I've tasted a few dessert mishaps in my day. My sister made creme brulee once, but over-caramelized the sugar. Got called crunch brulee instead.

There was also the summer of cakes by the same sister. Bought a cake book, made a new cake each week. I recall one called Hummingbird Cake. Wondered why it was called that, but figured it out after I had a sugar rush from eating it; felt like I could match a hummingbird.

I would have to say an EZ Bake cake my sister made when she was eight. You can imagine how good a tiny cake in baked by a lightbulb was. My grandma used to eat them to make her happy. Somehow my grandma has lived to be 86.

I've had some pretty spectacular dessert failures. The time I insufficiently greased the bundt cake pan comes to mind. If only the hole in the middle of the cake was its biggest problem... The raw kuchen; the 5lb zucchini loaf (you're only supposed to fill the pans half full); the cake I used icing sugar instead of flour in; the pie whose lid migrated off in the oven and ruined two other pies. For all my failures, I'm actually a pretty good baker. I just refuse to give up.

I'm going to go with "honey cake", since I don't remember the actual name for it.  It's from the middle east.  *looks up local bakery*  It's apparently called Harissa.  I like the variety with sliced almond on top.
