Gypsy a Blue Heeler that belonged to The Dad. I tormented that dog endlessly, and she just put up with it.

Bandit my first dog. Indeterminate race.

Grunt offspring of first two.

Tim Bodine offspring of first two and sibling to grunt.

Eleanor Roosevelt was my last dog. I had her at the tail end of high school and into college. She was a great dog. Laziest animal alive, but she loved me with a powerful love. Expensive too. More vet bills with her than all the others combined, she was prone to accidents and health problems. As a breed ACD are not the healthiest, and they have a lot of well documented health challenges, but dang are they great dogs.

I'm not really sure I have the patience for a dog these days. Not unless I adopt an old sedate dog. My parents have a pup, and I find I just don't have patience with dealing with most of his "antics."

Well, judging from earlier this month, we know how well baseball went over with the crowd: "It's going... it's going... it's going... and it's GONE!"

I missed all that. I posted my reply to that question and then hopped in my work truck and went stomping around in the woods for the day. When I got back to my home office all I saw was a mod saying they had removed some posts. And some of the ones that were left up were still a bit salty. I do not take my sports cheering nearly that seriously!

Last Question for April, (30th): How many puppies-doggos have you owned/cared for in your lifetime?

Bonus activity! …if you can find them, can we see pictures?

Let's see if I can remember them all. I know I only have digital photos of the last couple of dogs...

Lady: a collie-mix my folks had when I was born, some of my earliest memories are of that dog.

Prince and Princess: a pair of collie-mixes that we got after Lady from Grandpa, quite possibly related to Lady. But I can't remember if that's 100% correct.

Kodi: an extremely dumb and ridiculously friendly husky-rottweiler mix

Bud: A Golden Retriever-Rottweiler mix that liked to go running off across the fields and bring dead skunks home. Happiest dog ever

A pure bred Husky who's name escapes me: It was actually my dad's dog that I took for a couple of years while he dealt with some health issues that prevented him from giving a dog a good life. Only pure bred dog I've ever had.

Kodi II: A Rottweiler-Shar Pei mix that I got late in his life from a friend who had to move to a place that didn't allow dogs. A bit sad about losing his original human, but still a great dog for the short time we had him.

Then came the long dog drought where my wife and I moved a lot and couldn't have a dog for a bit over a decade. Finally we settled in the city where we are now and could get dogs again. Which led to...

Janeway: Or just Jane, a rottweiler-hound dog mix we got from the pound and who passed just last year. She's was the smartest, most gentle animal I have ever had and my heart still breaks when I think of not having her around.

And finally, Benny: He's a chihuahua, cattle dog, terrier, rat mix that a friend literally found living in the woods, half starved and covered in ticks. He's also our first little dog, I've got cats larger than him. He was completely feral when we got him, but Jane mellowed him out a bit. He's a little lost without her gentle guidance, but he tries really hard.

I've lived around other dogs over the years, but those belonged to roommates or family members and I never really considered them my dogs.

And here's a picture of Jane and Benny:

Last Question for April, (30th): How many puppies-doggos have you owned/cared for in your lifetime?

I live alone, so I don't really want to have a pupper that sits around in an empty house most of the day and I also want to have the time to dedicate properly to doggdaddyism. I plan on getting a dog when I retire, probably a black lab (or maybe an Akita).

We moved to the country when I was 11, mom got a shaggy sheep dog type. It was kinda stinky and I wasn't a huge fan (we had six cats, much more my jam). Then I found a stray mutt one day and we immediately became best pals. I even won a photo contest with a picture I took (back when we had to do our own darkroom work!).

The band had a couple dogs over the years. The best was a trained Akita. The worst was an untrained husky/wolf mix.

Later, a girlfriend and I had a cat and dog together. It's been almost 30 years since I had a dog in the house (she took the dog but I didn't write a song about it)!

I've never had one personally, but my folks have my whole life up until recently.

When I was was a kid my folks bred purebred toy poodles.  We had 3, 2 females: Ginger (a ginger blonde) and Dottie (who was black, I think....unless she was chocolate....been a while) and the male was Zeban, who was black. As a little kid, the puppies were amazing and Ginger used to have a whole variety of coloured pups.
When we moved to where my folks still live, Zeban and the neighbour's giant collie (biggest one I've ever seen) didn't get along, so the folks ended up trading Zeban and Dottie to one of my uncles for a collie who's name escapes me.  Ginger was Mom's favorite so she stayed until she finally passed at 18.  We also had a collie/whole lot of other stuff mix named Lady.  I'm not sure if we GOT her or if she just showed up on the farm and never left.  Other than the poodles all of their dogs were very much outdoor farm dogs until later on.
Around when I moved out they had a Sheltie that had been Mom's mother's, when she had  stroke and had to go into assisted living.  He was a snippy little thing until he got to know you and the fattest Sheltie I've ever seen.  Later they had a couple more collies before deciding after the last one that dogs were getting to be too much work for them.

We've had 7 dogs on the farm since I've been alive, if my count is right. They've always been faithful companions who always helped us herd cattle . Current one is Skippy, a Border Collie/ Great Pyrenees cross. He doesn't herd cattle so much as protect them, and used to sleep in the bale feeder when we had cattle. He's a giant dork but he protects the farm, and is used to tackling an entire pack of coyotes. He 10 years old and still acts like a puppy, though he always listens to me because I'm the one who trained him.

As a boy, I had Nicki. She was one of my Aunt Ivy's dog's final litter of pups. Her dog had MANY litters of mixed breed dogs...her dog's name was Lucky.

Old Crazy Linda & I had a mixed Springer Spaniel named Travers & a Golden Retriever Costa Del Sol aka Gus.

Then as a divorced Guy who became the principal care giver at the old homestead, I had Sam the Chow mix & Speck the Rat Terrier.

That would be five then.

Oops, I almost forgot ol' Willie. Another stray that I found in the woods, and one day he decided to return to them (allegedly, my parents were into lying about things like that). Willie was best known for his cuddles and his atrocious, room-clearing farts.

I guess it's good to be remembered for something!

I haven't had a dog that was /my/ dog.. in .. wow. I was a kid.

And I don't think I have any pictures of her, because while there /are/ pictures of Spooker, there aren't any scanned. She was kind of a character though, and I miss her.

Mom had dogs, though; she loved Afghan Hounds, and there were two, while I was growing up; Brightly and Dusty.. I don't /think/ I have pictures of either, although I could be mistaken. Brightly was a good girl; but she was Mom's dog, and you kind of knew it. I was that weird pink thing that didn't understand how to dog properly. Oh! Wow! I have a picture!

Brightly.jpg.94b99bd2fb0f738bbc730b42b546568d.jpg

... that's not the best picture. But it IS Brightly.

I'm not really a dog person. ^^;

I might have pics of Preacher (hyuge black monster hound), Tziki (.. sweet, but never the same after we lost Shadi and Khami) and possibly Khami (sweet, dumb as a box of rocks) around here somewhere, but I don't have time to find them, and .. again, not my dogs. I'm pretty sure I don't have one of Shadi.

All Afghan Hounds, and all good dogs, but especially Preacher was Mom's dog, and he really didn't last long after she passed.

Not likely we'll get dogs; Andi's not good with them, and I, as I said, don't speak Dog.

I'm going to slightly change the question to be how many dogs were in your family, because none of them were actually MINE.

Piper--Scottish terrier, lived with mom and I.

Shannon--Irish Setter, dads dog

Pitu (pronounced P-2) and Suzie--Poodles. They were my maternal grandparents dogs.

Happy and Suzie--a Shih Tzu and a Springer Spaniel. Also my maternal grandparents. They came after the previously mentioned 2.

Snoopy--mutt. She looked liked a Beagle, but was big like a Labrador Retriever. Paternal grandparents dog. I was very young, so not sure of breed.

Sabrina--Cocker Spaniel, also  the paternal grandparents, after Snoopy.

Jake and Katie--Golden Retrievers. These were my dad and stepmoms dogs.

Yogi Bear--mutt. Parents were allegedly a Shih Tzu and a Sheepdog. This is the closest to being 'mine', he lived with my mom, stepdad, and I.

I joined the Navy, and didn't have time/space for a pet for a long time. I met my future wife and we started getting cats. We lived in little apartments and we like bigger dogs. We figure it's not fair to the animal to have a big dog stuffed into a small apartment with no yard to speak of to be able to run and play in. Now that we've both got a little more time and much more space, we're talking about a dog in the future.

I've never owned a dog myself, but in my youth there were a couple of canines in the family at different times.  Both mutts.

Amazingly, I have actually managed to dig up some (very poor) photos of them).

The first photo is dated 1978, and shows Judy.

This one is from 1990, and shows Scruff, along with my mother.
