Question April Second  Desserts! What is the most interesting thing ever offered to you for dessert??

I come from a large family of bakers, so desserts were plentiful and varied.  There's nothing that I would consider odd, but there's a lot that others might not have had. The marshmallow/ peanut butter slices are always delicious, but today we'll talk about something that's a bit of a Polish tradition: Croustiki. Some might call them rosettes or pinwheels, but what they are is pastry  deep-fried and powdered with icing sugar. They're simple but delicious, though it's interesting how you make them.

I have never been offered anything I'd classify as 'weird', to be honest. I will say this; I have learned some really interesting things are good dipped in chocolate, and some of them are not great with 'white' chocolate, but absolutely delicious with dark chocolate (which I normally hate).

Salt is an abomination that should not, in my opinion, be mixed with chocolate, especially if it is salt chunks.

*sigh* It was, otherwise, a lovely chocolate fondue.

I'll try pretty much anything once! Hmm. I didn't expect to like creme de mamão (Brazilian papaya and ice cream). I can't stand the scent and texture of papaya. But it wasn't bad!

I guess my favorite dessert, che ba mau, is probably pretty interesting if I think about the ingredients instead of the whole. Coconut milk! Jello! Beans?!

April FirstWithout looking it up have you ever heard of the mighty Sidd Finch, a pitcher who did not play for the Reds?

Sidd Finch was never a player for the Reds, the Red Sox, any other hue of Sox, or the Mets. He and his legendary 168mph ( :wow: ) fastball were fictional, an April Fool's Hoax created by a New York magazine — he supposedly tried out for the Mets and briefly considered signing with them (instead of devoting himself to a musical career playing the French horn). It is a fun story to look up.

Go Reds.

(My local team forgot they were playing baseball and managed to lose by scoring a touchdown and a field goal while the other team scored two touchdowns. Train wreck indeed.)

It was Red Velvet Cakes on a platter. In a fancy restaurant, where I was dining with an unusual grouping of people, in a dream.

The dream happened the morning of good Friday. And it was what influenced me to use @Sylverthorne's desserts question. Which then segways into the weekend question.

Question April 3rd — Do you remember dreams very well?

Bonus weekend activity: recount some, if they were non-nightmares and family friendly, happy sorts of things.

I tend to recall the details in dreams very clearly, if I remember them, which I only do very rarely.

It is a shame as they tend to be weirdly movie-like (I actually had one last year that had interviews with the cast and crew in it).

Question April 3rd — Do you remember dreams very well?

hmm

Yes, and I sometimes  enter some stage of lucid dreaming,  either being able to control some of the narrative, wake myself up or in one case restore to a previously saved postion,  when I didn't like the way the dream was going.

actually realizing it is a dream, and getting full control is much rarer but does happen.

A recent favorite was being the captain of a small indepenant trading spaceship with my wife as a copilot.  I was  smuggling 5 (living, human sized) GW space marines in my ship, but since they had thier own life-support in armor. I put them in the cargo hold. (and forgot about them.  then spent much of the rest of the dream arguing with my wife about dinner, and then *ahem* making up.

- the crew quarters of the ship looked exactly like the first apartment we shared.

Years back, I tried some techniques for remembering dreams better, and they did hlep.  Most of the time, no.  Maybe once a week or so something will stick long enough for me to recount it to my wife over breakfast...

Lately, I seem to be dreaming about going to gaming conventions pretty regularly.  There’s clearly some COVID-era wish fulfillment going on with that.

I'm going to go with "honey cake", since I don't remember the actual name for it.  It's from the middle east.  *looks up local bakery*  It's apparently called Harissa.  I like the variety with sliced almond on top.

I bet you mean Halva, because Harissa is a very spicy chili paste and not a dessert item.

You can hand me any you don't want.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't

Most of the time they're either Nightmares or very happy not family friendly stuff.

I tend to not remember average dull dreams...

I'm a lucid dreamer, so I usually remember dreams very well.

Ok, I'm unlocking the thread now. I just pruned the heck out if it. All references to fonts/colors/posting issues have been hidden, and a troubleshooting thread has been opened for discussion/testing. Keep it civil in there, please.

 https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/95257-gtky-troubleshooting/

Apologies to anyone/everyone who may be upset with me for tinkering with your posts. It seemed like the best course of action, so that's what I did. I have called it to the attention of the other mods, so they can review what I did.

Carry on, and have a good weekend.
