Many thanks, I'm glad you all like it. It's a converted model I wanted to paint for a long time and I'm happy with the result.

 

For those of you who would like more details on this monster, here are the D&D 3.5 statistics I prepared.

Speed: 30 ft. (6 squares), fly 20 ft. (poor)
Armor Class: 15 (–1 size, +1 Dex, +5 natural), touch 10, flat-footed 14

Attack: Bite +12 melee (2d6+4)
Full Attack: Bite +12 melee (2d6+4) and bite +12 melee (1d8+4) and mandible +12 melee (1d8+4) and 2 claws +10 melee (1d6+2) or tail +10 (1d6+2) plus poison
Space/Reach: 10 ft./5 ft. (10 ft. vulture head)
Special Attacks: Breath weapon, poison
Special Qualities: Darkvision 60 ft., low-light vision, scent

This limping creature has the main features of a giant hound; a vulture head stretches out of its right side and a hulking insect head sits on the left side. Its left side legs end with an insect-like claw and a palmed foot at the back. It also features colorful wings that don’t seems to be strong enough to care its weight.

 

This chaotic hybrid is most certainly the result of a mad wizard experiment that went terribly wrong. It stands 7 feet tall at the shoulder, nearly 10 feet long, and weighs about 3,000 pounds. It understands Undercommon but can’t speak.

 

Combat
A deadly foe, the chimera prefers to surprise prey. It often swoops down from the sky or lies concealed until it charges. The vulture head can spit a breath weapon instead of biting. Several chimeras attack in concert.

 

Spell Turning. The chimera has advantage on a saving throw against any spell that targets only chimera (not the area). If the chimera’s saving throw is successful and the spell is of 4th level or lower, the spell had no effect on the chimera and instead targets the caster.

 

Body Composition

This chimeric aberration feature of a mountain-dwelling creature. It doesn’t provoke an attack of opportunity when it flies out of an enemy’s reach.

 

Breath Weapon
Necrotic Breath (Recharge 5-6) The vulture exhales necrotic energy in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw, or it takes (7d8) necrotic damage and is unable to regain hit points until the end of its next turn.

 

Tail Attack
Venomous Tail. The monster’s tail ends have stingers, which deals piercing damage instead of bludgeoning damage. In addition, when the chimera hits a creature with its tail, the creature must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or suffer 2d6 Constitution damage. A poisoned target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, shaking off the effect by himself on a success.

 

Skills: A chimera’s three heads give it a +2 racial bonus on Spot and Listen checks.
*In areas of scrubland or brush, a chimera gains a +4 racial bonus on Hide checks.
Carrying Capacity: A light load for a chimera is up to 348 pounds; a medium load, 349–699 pounds, and a heavy load, 700–1,050 pounds.

I like the use of red as your contrast down in the claw to bring out the green more but then you shifted to cooler tones up the arm and into the body...looks like a darker blue.

Many thanks @malefactus, I'm glad you like it. This was a project that took me longer to complete, i wanted the quality of the paint to match the time i spent doing the conversion. Actually, now that it's finished, I have an idea for another conversion. I'm going to make a small diorama including a less complex conversion that I wanted to do for a long time. More on that to come soon.

      Well, it's been a while since my last WIP project so here's what happens when you browse the Reaper Discord late at night and think "Hey! That's a FANTASTIC idea!". The Discord is home to the Reaper Challenge League and it has many, many categories. My favorite is the seasonal/holiday one. Simply put, you pick a holiday or event(ie.Christmas/St Patrick's day/The Coopers Hill Cheese Race etc) and paint a mini to match the theme.
       
      As many of you are aware, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the signature colour for that is pink. A few people were talking about doing pink minis for the challenge and I figured that I've already done a multicolored dragon, so how hard can it be?
       
      This, my friends, is what this work in progress thread is about to attempt. Abandon all sanity and colour sense, all ye who continue to read here, because things are about to get fabulous!
       
      First of all, the choice of dragon needed to be considered. Too small and you don't get the impact, too large and you're painting the beast all year. I needed a nice, mid sized dragon and I happened to have a spare of this bad boy. 
       

       
      I've always loved Narthrax. His angry face, the unusual tilted pose and the awesome scale placement are just fantastic. He's truly one of my favorite dragons and I've been looking for an excuse to paint him something different from the standard chromatic or metallic dragons for quite a while now. Most of the my painting is for tabletop gaming purposes so it's nice to shift gear once in a while. 
       
      So first things first, I gave him a nice soapy bath to prepare him for painting. Sorry, no photos of that- a dragon has to retain some dignity! Here's the 'after' shot!
       

       
      I glued on the leg and tail and left the head and wings separate, mostly for ease of painting. Then I gave home a good, slightly thinned coat of Blue Liner 9066. This provides a nice, even base coat and helps prevent the paint rubbing off further down the road.
       

       
      And thus the madness begins! This is where I started giving every single scale a layer of Rich Indigo, making sure that there's still a good amount of the dark liner in the shadows. 
       

       
      At this point I realized that a test area was probably a good idea, so I started playing around with highlight colours, finally deciding on Witchcraft Purple 07977 and, appropriately enough, BCA Pink which Reaper are kind enough to put into online orders in October. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how bright to go but at least it doesn't look entirely hideous! Admittedly, your milage may vary on this one. Heck, I might hate pink by the end of this endeavor, you never know.
       

       
      Lots of blocking in the purple and pink, with an attempt on the belly scales. Not entirely sure about that, might need to see how bright the upper scales go.
       

       
      More blocking in of the scales and a bit of work on the wings, using Rich Indigo and Desna Blue.
       

       

       
      Then the Witchcraft Purple starts getting layered on in earnest. This is the point where I start to second guess myself. He's starting to look like a particularly dangerous fuschia....
       

       
      That's pretty much where the mini is now, hopefully I haven't bored you all too much or damaged your retinas. I'm hoping to get some more work done tomorrow so I'll keep posting as often as I can. I think that this is one of those projects that needs attention little and often.

      This one has been on the desk for awhile to receive paint as there was extra on the palette. I decided to finish him off last night. Added highlights to the cloak and skulls. Shaded everything, but the cloak with Army Painter Dark Tone. I didn’t add any highlights or shading beyond the basics as it isn’t a great cast. But, I think it turned out great for the toy box.

      One of my favorite sculpt…but in the old Bones plastic. I put a little extra into the base, otherwise it was a pretty straight forward zen of Bones quick paint job. Overall I like the scheme and it has given me ideas for when I paint my metal version. Not sure about the green face and the blue glow under the rib cage is too subtle. 


       
      And as an aside …..the quality of Testors Dullcoat is not nearly as good as it was a decade ago. The newer formulation continues to give me a semi gloss finish.  Oh well.
