Grenadier Fighter

I just finished painting this figure yesterday. It's from the old Grenadier boxed set 'Fighting Men' #2005. Not really a whole lot to say about him, I spent about 3 hours painting him to a good tabletop level. I got a little burned out on painting for a while, feeling like I had to paint everything to a competition level. Well, sometimes it's just fun to slap some paint on a figure in a few hours just to take your mind off of other things. I had just forgotten that somewhere along the way.

 

Anyhow, here he is, let me know what you think.

There is a simple beauty and elegance in a lot of these old figures, and you've done it justice.

 I've come to the conclusion over the years that a lot of the older figures that look a bit more "stylized" compared to the modern realism really need to be painted in the "old-skool" style... Dipping and drybrushing as artistic choices and a certain almost impressionist feel to the paintjob just seems to work better with some of the older sculpts than trying to go for high detail and seamless blending.

Exactly!!  This dude looks great.  Many of us sometimes allow ourselves to forget, the hobby is supposed to be fun and stress relieving.  Tabletop level painted minis not only provide that quick fun, but bring joy to others in a game.  Good work!  I have a handful of Heritage minis that are about to get the same level of painting.

Totally fun, love the old figures coming back to life! I have the Grenadier Cthulhu box set that has been lingering for quite a while I need to get to. This is inspiring!
