Getting to know you, May 2021

Recommended Posts

The rules: as they were last month (in addition to all regular forum rules) except where I sneakily changed them:

1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question. †

1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day, a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, and random forum members are all chomping at the bit to step in and post one... ††

2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
3. Questions are going to be posted sometime before 1 AM Reaper time (US Central).
4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to Talespinner or Morihalda…
5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI).
7. Weekend questions may take the form of two or three day quests, starting on Friday or Saturday.

8. Pix always welcome.

For being an air force brat, some would argue an impossibly low amount of times.  We literally moved THREE TIMES.  Amazing what happens when the government puts a promotion freeze in place six months before dad's due for a promotion, we stayed at the same base for ten full years.  It was awesome, in many ways, and kinda sucked making friends and then having them move 2-3 years later due to deployments or re-assignments.

At present?  Five.  Hopefully there's only one more to go, where it's moving out of this apartment into our own house, and calling it a day.  I absolutely despite moving, doubly so since two of those moves weren't really my choice (one was leaving due to safety, and the other was leaving due to idiot in charge of bills who decided a new guitar was more important than paying the rent).

Moved as a child.. three times.  I think.

At least, I can't remember if there was a first before we moved out to the specific middle of nowhere I spent most of my childhood in.

Moved as an adult .. I'm up to six, and I'm trying really hard to keep it there. I have found that I really, REALLY hate moving.

I like this particular slice of nowhere, and I intend to remain in it.

4 as a child, 2 as an adult.

Only the first one was a 'big move' (from the USA to the UK), the rest have all been moving to slightly different parts of the same town.

As a boy, we moved once. when I was a eighteen months old, from Queens to North Merrick in Nassau County (NY).

As a supposed adult, I moved eight times with Horseshoe Bay the last one...so far. There will probably be at least one more move in the cards.

may1: 0

may 2: 8. parents house to college dorm, dorm to a better dorm, better dorm to the nicest apartment I ever lived in, there to Philadelphia, then back to parents house, then to the apartment that was destroyed by hurricane, then to the apartment destroyed by incompetent plumbing, then to here.

I'll likely mover several more times before I die

May 1: I moved 5 times.

May 2: I moved 22 times. That's not counting 5 or 6 times being sent somewhere for 2-9 months for training schools in the Navy.

I'm tired of moving, we HATES it, precious, we hates it!

I've got AT Least 1 more to go.

May 1st: Four times. Twice in-country, twice internationally.

May 2nd: I think seven times. Several of those were within the same city.

I forget exactly.  As a military family we went all over the place.  Before I was 18 I had moved more than 18 times, sometimes more than once in a year. I went to 3 different high schools.  I haven't kept track as an adult... at least ten and probably more.

As a child, zero. In fact, my parents still live in the same house, and have for, hmmm, sixty years now.

As an adult, discounting the two different places I lived in during four years of college, I moved once to Maryland for work, then three moves within Maryland, and one to Delaware, so five times altogether as an adult. Each time I swear that I will take less stuff, and I have, more or less, but next time will still be better. ::):

This is more complicated that I'd thought.

As a child: Five times. I'm including the year my whole family lived in France, and then moved back into our old home.

As an adult: Five times, with the last one being a dozen days ago. Six if I count when I had to move back to the family home after losing my job. As a university student: four more times.

I remember 3 moves.
But! I remember 4 houses.
I only remember 2 of the addresses

However, I suspect I lived in five different residences as a child, this would mean I moved four times, (one move between each place).

On that last move I helped drive loads from house 4 to house 5.

I expect I was simply cargo for that first move — I remember nothing of it.

My one memory of the second move involves all the furniture being crammed and stacked in the den. 3-4 year old me thought all the nooks and crannies that were inaccessible to grown-ups were absolutely marvelous. Little did I know that I’d be packed off to the grandparents place and that when I returned the furniture was going to be spread out into the rest of the house. I was so disappointed.

I moved once (twice if you include going to college).  It was a big move, I moved next door when I was one.
