Is that a 1/100 Sazabi??

That is indeed the Master Grade Sazabi Ver.Ka on the display shelf.  I have a resin "conversion" kit (it's half detail, half a lot of changes detail) for it that will eventually be happening.  Other gunpla kits on the shelf are the SD Command Gundam, HG GTO MS-04 Bugu (needs clearcoat), HG GTO MS-06S Zaku II (Red Comet Ver.) (my very first gunpla kit, and the only one that I've used the stickers on), and the RG Force Impulse Gundam (needs waterslide decals and clearcoat).

Oh yeah, and that Cali-Dragon is printed in Replitech Sleek Purple at 500%, although it was printed somewhat too fast so didn't get as shiny as the filament is capable of.

Angry kebab time!

I have to run out and pick up two packages from the post office, and then after that I get to decide on which way I'll be doing things.  Do I try and use the airbrush (not recommended due to just how strong the smoke is), or do I go with my backup plan of brushing on primer.

Well, okay, I'm also waiting on the second half of the parts to dry, but that's semantics 😛

Took almost a week due to various adulting, and I think six sessions at the desk, but.....

We've got primer down!  Yes, it's messy, but I wasn't having much luck with keeping my Monument #6 Round loaded as well as I'd like.  Either kept overlaoding it, or it was too runny.  Last round I wound up using my Winsor & Newton Scepter II Gold #4 Round, and it was more manageable.  I'll fix things up with a coat or two of Dark Neutral Grey on top of the primer, and then it's on to colour.

Thankfully Mecha May was extended to end of day May 30th (well, 22:00 my time), so I have a bit more time to make it all pan out, which is definitely a good thing, as it gives me an extra week, and boy am I thankful for that.

Second coat isn't perfectly even, but we at least have a uniform colour base to work from for the various parts now!

Definitely looking forward to getting some colour down on these!

Two layers of drybrushing later (ProAcryl Warm Grey, followed by Bright Ivory)...

Smoke was semi-reasonable today, so Rune and I spent a while out on a walk, plus other adult responsibilities like errands, but I still count this as getting colour onto things, even if it's the underlayers 😛  Didn't take pics of the frame parts, because those are kinda boring.

Working on the frame, so I can get those parts back together...

ProAcryl Black Wash over the frame parts, to partially even things out.

And finally, some COLOUR, ProAcryl Transparent Purple!  Sure a good portion of these various bits will be concealed behind exterior panels, but enough parts will be visible I figured they should probably get a splash of some sort of colour on them...

Started working on some tester parts, and came up with a purple I like by mixing Royal Purple and Dark Magenta 1:1.

I also tried using Dark Ivory for the dusty white/grey parts as well as the initial backing for the hot pink I plan, but I'm not feeling it.  Next time I sit down to paint I'll be swapping it over to Bright Neutral Grey, as that feels more like what I'm aiming for.

Still seriously thinking a nice reddish orange, purple, and light grey for colours, just a case of working out how to make them all full work together and all that.

So many parts, how can you tell them apart, what goes where?

Are these numbered?

Thankfully, a lot of them are doubled (two arms, two legs, etc).  Most builders will keep similar parts together to keep either similar colour paints together (handy when airbrushing, as the most common technique for gunpla is airbrushing a single colour per piece) or all the components for each part together (so all the leg bits together, all the arm bits together, etc).  I plan on being more organized about it next time, but for this time thankfully it's a reasonably simple kit and I can more or less keep track of what is what.

... I think.  We will find out when it comes to assembly if I'm correct or not

A little bit of progress tonight...

Colours used:

- Bright Neutral Grey

- 1:1 mix Royal Purple / Dark Magenta

I just realized I have a small tiny panel hidden under the tape in the middle.  Oops.  I'll fix that soon enough, when I bring the orange into the mix.

Testing continues on the shield.  I much prefer the Bright Neutral Grey as a base, although I will be lightening it up by mixing in some Bright Ivory, since my goal is more of a dusty white, so basically a rather light grey...

First layer of purple is now down on all the exterior parts, whoo!

ProAcryl Royal Purple and Dark Magenta mixed 1:1 to form a nice, reddish-pink purple (that of course, camera phone is laughing at trying to capture)!

Spent a decent amount of yesterday masking parts.  Would have airbrushed first layer on, but somehow managed to stub my left toe so standing up and walking yesterday was interesting.  However, I suspect I'll be able to do things today, so I'm definitely happy about that!

Smoke's lightened up mostly (although by the look of the forest fire maps it'll probably become a lot thicker this upcoming week because BC's on fire again, as is a good chunk of the Northwest Territories o_O), and so we have the next layer of purple laid down on the outer parts!

Next up, more masking, and then one of the other colours, more than likely that dusty white/grey I was mentioning earlier in the thread!

Update time!

20230806_162049.thumb.jpg.38ded4afc180bb979c482b61848d27cf.jpg

^So, tape was peeled, and almost immediately I really, really, REALLY liked how the grey prep was playing with the purple...

^So after about two dozen different sample patches, I came up with a sponging pattern I liked that would tie the two together without being too busy...  ProAcryl Neutral Grey followed by Bright Neutral Grey.  Feels like I overdid it on a few pieces, but I'll know better once I get it back together again for a test fit.  Either way, I'm very much so liking where things are...
