2021: Painting during the Pandemic (Many Minis May)

Recommended Posts

Happy May Day!

What are people painting for the month of May?

I will start off:

  1.  Paint this month's terrain piece
  2.  Paint a figure for the replicants game
  3.  Start a competition figure
  4.  Paint this month's Mithril miniature

Hobby goals for 2021

Painting one piece of terrain each month [On track with 5]

Painting the 17 miniatures in my annual box (13 now)

Painting my Cossack faction for Anno Domini [one down]

Paint some more modern figures for Zona Alfa

Painting one Mithril miniature each month [On track with 5]

I have a handful of misc figures for RCL, a few 3d printed terrain pieces, and a box of cats I started last year.  I'd like to complete some of the unfinished stuff to clear up table space.

I bought a bunch of minis for Stargrave and should be getting them in a couple weeks. So goals for this month are to print and paint enough terrain and minis to play it. Need to read the book to know exactly what we need but have started working on a few generic things.

I had a list for May for the RCL and in looking for some of the minis most of the list has gone out the window. The only things that I've kept the same are the Deva and Bed Mockingbeast.

Other painting goals:

  • Frost Giant Queen
  • Grimtalon

Other non-painting goals:

  • Get new pictures of old stuff I like taken
  • Continue updating website portfolio
  • Continue to figure out shop stuff

Marthangul - converted to Wingless Land Wyrm  - conversion finished

Shadow Dragon - already done.

Nest of dragon eggs (sculpted)

Juliette

Thiefling thief

Cat adventurer

Mummy - limited pallete  - kind of a stretch, could sub out.

Spirit of the spring

Lysette

The first scenario involves 7 small buildings and the second involves a small crashed spaceship with a gun that still works. I think JM is trying to make the terrain less 'single use' in this one though. No bone wheels!

My main goal is to clear out some terrain projects that are cluttering things up. I spent the May Bank Holiday putting painted minis into plastic boxes and basing things I'd painted years ago before I bothered with that.

Other goals, I am nearly at the point where I've painted 75% of Bones IV, including the expansions so I am trying to finish off 30 more Bones minis to get to that goal. I may just speed paint the free goblins because then I will have created a decent unit for wargames rather than just having painted 30 lovely but random minis.

I then have some nice human cavalry that i kitbashed and may start painting up.

I did paint up enough Bones IV to say that I've painted 75% of what I brought. It's a nice personal milestone and I'd been aiming for something approaching 'completion' before getting to Bones V. I may try and hit 80% by going through the things I'd primed.

I then didn't work on any of the goals set out above, really. I ended up pushing through painting up extra fantasy minis to fill 'gaps' in units. What tends to keep me going/buying is that I will paint 3 of something and go 'huh, if I paint 8, I'll have a point for Saga". Then I will go' huh, with 2 more minis I'll have 10, but with 4 more I'll have a unit for Dragon Rampant '. Then it's a case of' well, if I hit 15 that's a good unit for Oathmark, but then 16 would be 2 points for Saga'. And so on until the loft needs reinforcing....

Didn't do like any of this. It's been a hectic month. I did keep figuring out shop stuff but am stuck at another point which I have yet to figure out.

Almost the end of the month, and it has not been without challenges.  I completed all but one of the monthly RCL figures (7/8) but didn't get any terrain or cats completed. The terrain does have primer, however.  Somehow I have less table space.

Shoulder re-injury and strained neck muscle means the annual holiday weekend paint binge isn't happening.

End of the month, so might as well, I'm fairly certain that I won't be painting tonight anyways...

- Queen of Hell and Mystic Circle didn't see any real progress, but I do want to finish them up soon, so here's hoping for that soon soon (tm).

- Zaku 1 has seen some work on the conversion kit, although sanding is being moved over to the airbrush booth in order to keep the dust down, so progress on that has slowed a fair bit.  Still nice to see the kit starting to come to shape though!
- LAV-III needs one more coat, as it still feels rather too close to grey than hinting at white in my eyes.

- Infinity Terrain has been primed, zenithal coated, and two thirds of it has seen TWO coats of blue, so that's seeing a good amount of progress in my eyes!

I finished both Masaaf and Mudgullet, I call that a win, and I have caught back up on my paint 50 medium mini equivalent this year with that strong May finish.

Didn't have big goals and under acheived on them. Printed a few odds and ends for Stargrave or other scifi games but only painted a tiny bit on a female adventurer I printed months ago.
