An hour of hyper-focused painting today. maybe 90min.  Time gets a little fuzzy, when the entire world shrinks to the tip of a brush.

I took my basilisk (bones 5) from primed , to an ugly stage of mixed bascoats and shadows.

not sure if I should reconsider some of my choices or just push forward.

Maybe post a picture here? At least some of us have colour/contrast sense. Not me obviously, but other people.

I spent the day painting a pink dragon for gosh's sakes

In Cat News - we recently got a box that is 24 inches  long and 8inches wide - which is the natural state of my young stretchy cat.  He has barely left the box for 2 days.

picts soon.

A good box is very important. If he left it then another cat could find it unoccupied and *gasp* steal it from him! Gorgeous kitteh, btw.

One of ours is currently obsessed with a paper bag from the craft store (handles removed, obviously)

Yes, I know it IS October.

I ALSO know that it's entirely too early to start hearing about Christmas.

Yet I did today at a local store while running errands on the way home from work.

(No, I didn't stab anyone. I may have rolled my eyes violently enough to cause whiplash, though.)

Gosh, stores here started rolling holiday themed junk out in July.  Craft stores obviously want you to decorate NOW.  And World Market is stocking all the wonderful imported European goodies this week.  Lebkuchen, pfeffernusse, marzipan, peppermint bark, chocolate oranges, and shortbread...

I can see craft stores stocking Christmas theme goodies early.  Some complex craft projects can take months to complete if your crafty time is limited.

As for the European Goodies, if it's in stock now that means it was produced in July, August at the latest.  Given the current supply chain problems, I can understand stuff showing up early as if it shows up too late, it's basically unsaleable.

It shows up earlier each year, it seems like.  Halloween candy has been on shelves since Labor Day.  As that sells it's filled with Christmas candy.   I was a bit worried that some of the imports wouldn't make it in time this year, so I was glad to see the shelves getting stocked today.  Empty shelves are getting to be a little too normal.

And yeah, it's a mess all over, for a lot of reasons, there's no simple solution, and it's going to be that way for a long while yet.

If this is the "new normal" I want my Old Normal back.

Somebody's got some 'splainin to do.

When I was younger things just worked.  It seems once I was forcibly retired everything has been deteriorating and it has now reached the point where even the oblivonoids are noticing.

My wife is in three craft/gift stores. They've all sent emails in early August to the vendors saying to please stock up the Christmas stuff in the stalls. They have people already coming in trying to buy gifts for Christmas that early.

So it's only us heretics that don't shop this early it seems.

We started shopping a couple days ago. Only for the fact that shipping to us is taking longer and we have nieces and family to shop for who live in Maryland to mail out when everything gets here. Dunno why we didn't have stuff shipped directly to them...

Well... I decided to give clipless pedals a try for the first time. Bought the shoes, bought the pedals, got the cleats installed in the right place on the shoes, and spent half an hour in the garage just clicking in and out. I then took to the grassy belt behind my house to practice starting and stopping... and it was as predictable as could be.

Well, best of luck to you.  Someone gave me a set, and I never tried installing them.  I decided I didn’t want to try to ride at that level.  My vintage touring bike originally came with actual toe clips, and I reently removed them.  Riding with flat pedals is safe for me, and the toe clips were holding my foot in one place and giving me “hot spots” on the feet.   I want to be able to shift the pressure point around as needed.

Oh, I shop this early, but it's so I can avoid all the happy and cheerful people that are out at Christmas time.

I shop early for... Wait a second, I don't do Xmas shopping, unless it's for things that generally have a posted lead time of 7-10 weeks.  Just waiting for that company to post what their Halloween colours are this year...

My main motivation isn't so much to ride at a higher level, I've been very much enjoying a bit of dirt/gravel riding here lately and I'm tired of my feet slipping off the pedals when I hit a bump and sliding my calves down the teeth on the 'flats.'   I've got a couple of faint but long vertical scars down the back of my leg from it.  Hoping that once I get the hang of unclipping this should help.
