It's unreasonably hot! What do you do for dinner when it is too hot to turn on the oven?

If it's like yesterday's sudden heatwave, I don't even get that hungry.

But sandwiches and salads are easy choices. Yogurt if I have some. And plenty of snack munching, like a single cherry tomato with a cracker.

Grilling season has been underway for a while now. When the night are cool, I may do a few things in the kitchen. But generally, proteins and some veg get grilled from spring until the snow flies. You can do most cooking techniques on a grill, direct or indirect, dry or moist, etc. For convenience, I do microwave the veg and rice a lot.

Our meals are generally lean protein/veg/rice. Tons of variety to keep it interesting. So the most current answer is grilled turkey breast, rice pilaf, and peas, because it was too darned hot last night.

I've been informed yesterday was "national doughnut day" did you have one? What's your preferred kind of doughnut? Do doughnuts even need a day?

No, last thing I need right now is a mass of carbs, coated in a layer of fat, and then coated in another layer of carbs with more carbs sprinkled on top for good measure.

Nothing really NEEDs a day.  I am actually really getting tired of everything and everybody needing a day, week, month, etc.  Just stop.

so what is the most interesting critter you've ever had to remove from your home?

Starlings that made a nest in my bathroom vent.  I am pretty sure that my house will forever have the mummified corpses of a nest of baby starlings in the ceiling of our kitchen.

Giant killer worm fight. What's your favorite of these critters? (examples: shai halud, the thresher maw, purple worm, graboid, xol, any thing that is huge, burrows and is generally worm like)

Graboid followed by Shai-Halud.  The latter is really fun to say in my bass-profundo voice when in an enclose acoustic space (like my shower).  My wife thinks I am weird; she's probably right.

Cook something on the stove top or grill.  Last night it was pork bbq left from Feb or March that got warmed in the microwave, with a can of beans.  I grill or bbq all year round.  Tonight is going to be lemon chicken with a steamed vegetable on the side.

If it gets ridiculously hot there's salads.  Later this week I'm planning salad nicoise with a good can of tuna, boiled eggs, pea pods from the garden, and whatever else is in the fridge.  And for Sunday's stupid hot evening potluck I think I'll make a marinated corn and black bean salad.

When it's hot and I feel lazy there's a really good middle eastern place up the road that does a wicked grilled chicken over hummus, and we get the big greek salad with it.

If I'm behaving like an adult my age should, a salad or a sandwich. Or sometimes get takeaway.

If I'm regressing to age 13, it's peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or ice cream. Possibly both.

Same thing I do when it's not too hot - eat it right out of the can.  Sometimes I won't even use a spoon, I just pour the contents down my throat like Popeye.  We're a lot alike, only my superpower comes from beans instead of spinach.

That's Blasphemy!

It's never too hot to use the oven!

Okay, I put Dinner in the oven and go wait in the garden till it's done, then eat outside.

That was yesterday, and I installed the AC for the main floor, and then we had oven roasted chicken :poke:

Generally we grill a lot and have a lot of salad in the summer.  Of course this means I have to go out in the heat and grill, while my wife stays in the kitchen and makes the salad, even though I'm the one who dislikes the heat.....
