Have you ever been to an in person auction? How'd it go?

Yes.  Been to a few over the years, won some, lost some. Not my favorite format for making purchases.

Yes, I've been to a few. Most of them were when I was a kid, so very vague memories of those. I went to one as a teenager with a friend and his father. That one was some kind of government surplus auction, and at least part of it was a 'mystery' auction where the idea was you bid on a box or pallet or whatever without any knowledge of what was in the container. Well, my friends dad bid on, and won, a fairly good sized crate that had US Army and all sorts of random letters and numbers stenciled on it. Inside the crate we found a brand new, never been issued, WW2 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Yes, and how it went depends on the auction type I guess. Last livestock auction I went to was long ago and I think I came away with 3 lambs. Last live property auction I was outbid on an antique 50 gallon copper kettle, but did pick up a nice set of fancy glass plates for cheap. Last silent auction I went to I ended up with Charlie Harper print for my wife. I may have stood around the bidding table with some larger friends glaring at everyone else trying to bid on it.

The only ones I recall were game store auctions in the early-mid 90s, in the time before eBay. Got most of my AD&D 1st edition books there, including the original Deities and Demigods cover (non-Mythos version), and the Fiend Folio.

After that, excluding online auction, the only in-person ones I recall were all at ReaperCon (got my CAV rule book at my first one, several Minitaire paints with some others the second time ).

Farm, equipment, cattle and horse auctions once in awhile when I think I might be able to snag something I can afford. Sell my cattle through the local auction mart every year but very rarely sit in on the auction. Antiques/old junk somebody hopes will make them rich a couple times. A few times I got what I wanted for a reasonable price, more times I grabbed something small and cheap that would be useful if not entirely necessary and many times what I was interested in sold for more than I could have bought it elsewhere so went home empty handed. I'm not a big fan of auctions but they have a place. I know a few people that are obsessed/addicted to them. They'll go to any within hundreds of km whether or not there's anything they want there.

As a farmboy, auctions were a constant thing when I was growing up. Every Wednesday was the livestock auction at the stockyards (and still is), and farm auctions were a good place to find cheap equipment and parts for our Super 92 combines.

I've been to a couple of silent auctions for fundraisers, and at least one with actual auctioning.  I don't think I bid on any of the live auction type things, but I did get a few thigs from the silent auctions.

Not my preferred method of acquiring things, because, you know, interacting with people and stuff.

Not really.  Arguably I've been around for church related ones, but was dragged there, and stayed for the food, and ignored the auction.

I've delivered to auction sites in the past though.  Funny where you go as a courier or the pizza guy...

Willingly?  None so far.  I also tend to avoid such places because I find such things hard to figure out how much I've spent at...

I have. Silent auction at my local game store. It was an estate sale, all proceeds going to the guy's family. He'd had a lot of games, minis, books, the game store was the perfect place for it.

It's where I got my Crate O Bones. Me and one of the store employees got into a minor bidding war. I outbid him at the last minute while he was ringing up a customer. He made me promise to paint them all. I assured him I'm a Forever GM, they would be painted and I promised him TPKs.

The Crate O Bones turned out to be a 1 Of Everything pledge plus doubles of most things for Bones 2. Still sealed. Still unwrapped. Untouched.

June 20,

you stumble across a cool looking bottle, it has a genie inside. you get 3 wishes, what 3 do you make?

I make a spot for it on a shelf among my other knick-knacks and a large cup of tea to drink while I ponder the options.
