What is the largest number of notifications you've gotten about a single shipment?

I posted about it in the last Random thread. And by coincidence with yesterday's question, it was for my last Paranoia expansion from KS.

It went through 34 confirmed locations by going round and around between depots for weeks. Sometimes it would get loaded, unloaded and sorted again, while still officially at the same depot. And by calling directly for updates, I knew my package went through many other hands.

All because I moved cities and had done a last minute address change due to shipping delays. Had my moving date been a week later, there wouldn't have been any issues.

I don't recall ever getting the number, but had to be around a dozen on a $2 fountain pen from Hong Kong.

I think it was somewhere around three dozen.  I hadn't realized the shipper had signed me up for notifications, so I manually signed up for them - through USPS and CanadaPost.  USPS "helpfully" sends emails saying "processed in Canada!" for almost every single step once it gets to Canada...

That was back when CanadaPost had a system that actually did email you for every step - now it's more a case of tells you the really big ones like enters the country, processed through a hub, and out for delivery (even if such almost always just means driver drops a card into your mailbox because they are utterly confused by a simple buzzer)

Never really noticed; I only tell it to notify me obsessively for a few, and... it.. hasn't been that obsessive. Two or three seems to be the default.

I do, however, manually check UPS/FedEX/USPS frequently.

Only 4. An email from the manufacturer saying it was about to ship, one from fed ex saying it shipped, another from the manufacturer saying fedex should be telling me it shipped and then a final one telling me the items had cleared customs. There may have been more that that, but unless I'm anticipating a problem I don't pay too much attention to shipping notifications.

I don't think I've ever gotten more than the usual four:- We're shipping your stuff, we have your stuff, we're delivering your stuff and we've delivered your stuff.

11 - Email unless specified otherwise:

  1. Preparing item for shipment (from shipper)
  2. Shipping information has been received (from Shipping Company)
  3. Item has shipped (from shipper)
  4. Item received (shipping company)
  5. Item is in transit (shipping company)
  6. Item will be arriving today (from shipping company)
  7. Item will be arriving today (from shipper - after the item was actually delivered)
  8. SMS - item will be arriving today
  9. SMS - your item has been delivered
  10. Item has been delivered (from shipping company)
  11. Item has been delivered (from shipper,  about 48 hours after the item was delivered)

I may have had more for an international shipment at one point, but the above was for something that I didn't sign up specifically for notifications for.

How much more money would it take to get you to change jobs?

It's a sliding scale based upon the new workplace environment in comparison to my current one.

A lot. It's less about the money (I work in a library) and more about the pension. Though with inflation and the rising minimum wage, I'll likely never be able to retire, so at this point I don't even care anymore.

What you got in your pocket??  :poke:

Money wouldn't be the main deciding factor (don't get me wrong, more would be nice) but things like not being on call (guess who is on call this week), number of systems, development environments, etc would be much more of a factor.

As would not having to move, work from home policy, health plan, etc.
All that said, I tend to be adverse to change, so a nice big raise and a signing bonus might be needed to nudge me into actually moving.

I just changed jobs and recently moved, so I am not in the mood to go through that again, no matter what amount. But overall, I am pleased that I have reached a point in my life where money is no longer a deciding factor for my job choices. Quality of life is the main one.

My current salary is maybe 30-40% less than my previous jobs, but I have a much lighter and flexible schedule and live in the city again where what I consider a normal life is possible (i.e. social activities).

Quite a bit.

I would need to be able to afford to hire a replacement carer for my housemate, so she's not left in the lurch.

Depending on how angry/passive aggressive said housemate got over this, I might also need enough to get a place of my own.

Doesn't really seem worth it, unless it was a pretty awesome job.
