Ghost White and Dragon White.  The Dragon White is 5 layers.  Each thinner than the last, and alternating the direction of brush strokes 90 degrees each time to try to help hide brush strokes.

Blocking in the chevron.  Peacock Green.

Brilliant Green, 1:1 Brilliant:Viper Green, Viper Green, added Clear Yellow.

He is really turning out quite nice!  I love the little details you are tossing in, from the writing on the cloak to the green stripe.  They are all perfectly placed!

I feel like this might be the finest piece I’ve seen you paint—and you’ve painted some mighty fine stuff! Excited to see how it all comes together! Eagerly awaiting your next update!

Wow!  That’s some pressure.  Thank you for the complement.  I’m not going to be painting again until Monday.  In the meantime I’m struggling with how to paint the Phoenix.  All red?  Red, yellow and orange in different parts?  Or yellow to red blends like fire?  The last idea is the most appealing, but will be the most time consuming.

 

I looked up heraldry examples.  Phoenix are usually one color.  Red, orange or yellow, but with the lower part rising from a stylized fire, usually of a different color.

Decided to go with this.  Splattered Crimson, Fresh Blood, Holly Berry, then 1:1 Holly Berry:Sunrise Orange, then 1:2 Holly Berry:Sunrise Orange.

Are you intending to keep it all red or make it more fiery with some yellow?

I know..part of me wants to keep going.  But in the interest of hundreds/thousands of BONES to paint, I’m leaving it here.  I painted the base stones a color similar to travertine tiles, rimmed black around the edge, and put it on the “shelf of waiting for Dull Cote.”
