GETTING to KNOW YOU JULY 2021

he rules as they currently stand ( we all know most of you rebellious lot will ignore most of it, but one can try)

1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question.

1.5. Should I be unable to post a question for the day a crack team of deputy quisitors, former quisitors, and random forum members are all chomping at the bit to step in and post one...

2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted.
2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.)
3. Questions are going to be posted between 8:00 hours and 12:00 hours CET. ( Central European Time)
4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to me...
5. You do not have to answer every question to play...
6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why can be fun...unless TMI).
7. Weekend questions will usually take the form of two or three day quests, starting on Friday or Saturday.

All HAIL WOOF!

QUESTION July 1st.

Do you like to participate in Pub Quizzes/Trivia Games etc?

Yes, I used to be good until they started to include the present day like the 90's.

I don't seek these activities. If I participate, it's because I happened to be there with a group of friends.

Though I'm a fountain of scientific knowledge and trivia, they're never the sort of questions that pop up (not enough 80s cartoons IMO). I'm even getting more and more out of touch with the general geek culture I like so much.

Don't go to pubs or bars, but we do love trivia games at our monthly family get togethers, does that count?

I do ok, unless there is a preponderance of sports questions.  Awesome Wife calls me the font of useless/random knowledge so general trivia games I tend to do well at.

Given my daily postings about random trivia for each day, I'd say yes! While I've never done an actual pub quiz (don't go to pubs), I like trivia games. I've got a few different versions of Trivial Pursuit, I typically watch Jeopardy! each night, and love watching the UK's Big Fat Quiz of the Year.

Pubs, no. Trivia, yes. We play Jeopardy during dinner every night.

You know you've chosen well when you and the mate are about 50/50 consistently for years. We can usually tell when one of us needs some downtime if we have a bad streak on Jeopardy. I have a slight raw processing edge (150 IQ vs her 141), and a cheat (read the clue backwards while listening to it being read, they usually bury a clue near the end)...but she has several degrees and can read at uncanny speeds. Makes for a lot of fun.

We hate when the clue makers get clever, stupid crap like Before & After gimmick categories. And we're generally lost on modern pop music and modern tv shows. And the show needs more science (she has studied literature, which is regularly featured as a category)!

I do like shouting out the answers when I watch quiz shows on TV if that counts.

With the right group of people and the right setting it can be fun.  If the game is being run too fast or too slow or contains a preponderance of celebrity and popstar trivia it gets boring fast.

I was on my high school's competitive trivia team, and actually appeared on local tv a couple times for matches.

I doubt I'd do it in a pub, but with some friends this seems like it could be fun.  Or go terribly wrong but still fun...

Sometimes.  My trivia bank is sufficiently random that I'm not much use, though. Except when I /am/. The problem is there's no predicting which it's gonna be.
