QUESTION July 21th.

What was the best hobby gift your loved ones/friends ever gave you?

And when did they completely misunderstood and gave you a hobby gift you really couldn't use?

The best gift I ever got was the gift of the hobby. Husband bought me a Warhammer Fantasy how to paint kit shortly after my dad died to keep me occupied. I am forever grateful  for this.

I've gotten some random stuff before that I've never used. I'm looking at you sculpting tools. But nothing totally bizarre.

NOTE:

I'm going on a little vacation this afternoon, will be back on Monday.

During this time the QUESTOR will be our awesome Griffin @TGP!

Thx..

Probably the old red box Basic D&D box set my mom got me one year. Thankfully, she was smart, looked things over and didn't fall for that whole 'D&D is Satanic' nonsense that popped up a few years later. A different year, my dad got me 2 MPC 1/72 scale model airplane kits; a BF-109 Messerschmidt, and an RAF Spitfire. Between them those 2 gifts shaped my life to get me to where I am now, at least hobby wise.

I've been pretty lucky; I've never gotten any bum hobby gifts.

I clearly hadn’t had enough coffee when I read that yesterday, because the answer has to be the original D&D set, which my parents gave me for my 15th birthday in 1976.  While I was already involved in miniatures, RPGs have shaped my friendships (and thus my life) for the last 45 years. And, yes, I still have it (somewhat expanded BITD) …

QUESTION July 22nd:

If the Pandemic is ever over, will you resume traveling?

What places will you want or  plan to visit if you do?

Travelling is one of those things I'd like to do but never get around to.

Maybe one day, there's a lot of the world I'd like to see.

The obvious easy answer is ReaperCon. I'll try again next year.

In the shorter term (date TBD), my family is planning to invite me to a trip to New York City to celebrate my 50th birthday. Currently it would be me, my mother, sister and niece. We may have separate activities once there as I may not be as interested in cloths shopping as they. But seeing a Broadway show would be enjoyed by all. I'll be asking for hobby related shopping destinations when the time comes.

In all honesty...  Probably not.  I don't really do much of the travelling thing, quite possibly due to lack of a vehicle.

If I were to go anywhere though, I dunno, maybe Drumheller, Vancouver Island, or if I magically had a lot of money and spare time why not hit up New Zealand with hubby ^_^

YES!!!

First, TX for ReaperCon.
Then FL for my nephew's wedding.

Then AZ or WA for a vacation (still deciding)

Then we shall see as time goes on.

Well, I never stopped, but not by choice.  In the last year,  I had to go to Yakima WA once, and Whitefish MT 3x for work.

We were supposed to do a family vacation to Disney World last August, pushed it off three times, until we had to either go last month, or not get to take my son, since he was joining the Navy.  He's off in boot camp now, and they just resumed in person graduation pass in review ceremonies, so we'll be driving to Great Lakes IL to see him graduate one of the first weeks in September.

One Christmas my angelic wife asked me which figures I was interested.

This was back when "Confrontation" was first starting. I gave her their catalogue and asked her to pick a couple.

She bought EVERY DAMN' ONE!!

I hope so, there are still places I want to see more of, but equally there are now parts of the world that I am resigned to the fact that it is just too complex/risky to go to. A pity as seeing what the rest of the world was like was very formative for me and I think it is something young people should be encouraged to do.

There is also the fact that my country's bureaucracy is presently so thoroughly elfed up that it has taken more than six months (and still counting) to get my wifes passport re-issued.0

I was going to say that I'd resuming going to the Big CityTM to see movies with my friend, but I recently learned that she's going to be moving 4 hours away with her brother to be closer to family. Any future plans I have are nixed for now, or else any trips I do make will be a much longer drive.

You assume I have money to travel. I have never been in the tax bracket that can afford to go on vacations, much less traveling vacations.

Absolutely.  Though, we'll need USCIS to issue the green card before we can leave the US again.  Before that though, we'll be going to Key West later this year, and Hawai'i early next year.

For future international travel in the next couple years, we're looking at a bunch of countries brought to you by the letter "i".
