No. I have a black thumb. If it is green & living & I touch it, it will wither & die. I admire flowers from a distance.

I kind of figured you are more of a mushroom guy.  You should try one of those mushroom growing kits.

Question July 27th.

Do you have plants/flowers that you're proud of?

Show pics!

Yeah, nah.   My wife likes gardening, but I do not. (I grew up on a farm with a giant garden.  I got my fill of gardening by the time I was 15......  Plus I'm a tall person with a bad back.  The ground is a long way down.....)

My contributions to gardening generally consist of lugging things and occasionally digging a hole or moving a rock from said hole.

The squirrels have recently eaten most of our sunflowers, so we cut all those back.  We've just planted some nasturtiums and chamomile, so we'll see what develops there.  Our Muscadine vine is growing strong and might produce grapes in the next 2 years (hopefully!).

QUESTION July 26th.

What is the strangest / coolest animal you have actually petted/held?

I know I already answered this, but I just remembered that my sister got to touch stingrays a couple years ago, which was really cool because they're her favorite animal. Which I can almost get behind, except for when you're looking up at them and their demonic mouths show.... But from above they're okay.

Just.... no.

Plants and I don't get along.

Mumsy did all the gardening this year. Usually I grow seedlings in the windows because they face south, then they go to the farm. We had a garden when I first moved in, but my landlord seeded it back to grass; I worked up north and wasn't home in the summer anyway. I am very proud of the pruning I did on the willows at the farm last year. If there is a crappy chore I enjoy, it's pruning. I really like pruning. There is also the Love Tree, a mayday that I bought years ago for Mumsy for Mother's Day. Mumsy makes me put wood shavings in little buckets and spread them around her flower beds, that's my contribution.

I managed to snag a few things from the garden centres this year, last year had been a wash. I think my strawberries have all petered out, but my tomatoes and peppers are growing fine.

Wait, we have rays at the mall? O_o

Snakes, turtles... A lot of turtles apparently...  Sharks... Fish... I don't see rays listed.

They do have a penguin meet and greet apparently...

They had them 8 years ago, things may have changed since then.

Sure do!

Bonus Sir Forscale included too!

Spoiler

They're from Ikea, never need to be watered or trimmed, a rather handy perk.

As for the two blocked out cubes, it's stuff that's too hot for Twitch / not appropriate for Discord or forum posting

I used to have others (in the living room, where we have actual light), but we had this weird white fuzzy stuff come through the entire area and it took a huge toll on indoor plants (as well as those outdoors).  No, it wasn't snow, was a weird white fuzzy stuff that clung to everything.

Used to have a planted fish tank.  I've been tempted to get one going again, but there isn't exactly anywhere in our current setup I could put one...

I do! But unfortunately my garden is currently surrounded by an impenetrable wall of building debris. It's doing pretty good despite that. My tomatoes aren't getting too out of control this year and seem to be producing well. My leaf lettuce all bolted but I managed to harvest quite a bit of it before that happened, and my pepper plants are going like nuts. I'm going to have so many hot peppers this year. There's at least 4 dozen habaneros on one plant and they're roughly the size of a child's fist already. I've even managed to get about 4 pounds of green beans out of our little garden so far.

I do have some photos from earlier in the year. Here's some pictures I took a few weeks ago of some Purple Coneflower and some Scarlet Bee Balm...

And although I didn't plant this I like to take at least a little credit for this. It's a Tamarack tree (a state listed endangered species around here) in a restored bog/weak fen complex I've been involved with since 2016. The goal was to restore the natural water levels in the bog after someone tried to drain it in the 40's and then to figure out how to reintroduce the Tamarack back to the area after some nuisance species were removed. Grad students have done all of the actual planting, but I show up every year and discuss the position and success of each planting with the project manager and make recommendations. So I'm a little proud of it regardless.

Assuming living animal... I got to play with a lion cub, he was going on special exhibit at the museum I worked at. We got to entertain him while they prepared his cage... suite? Absolutely adorable with giant paws he hadn't grown into yet.

If you are wondering anout the living statement... I worked in fossil prep, so I've held some pretty cool and unusual dead animals.

Question July 28th.

How handy are you in and around the house?

There's nothing me and duct tape can't fix.

I'm ok with minor things. Leaky pipe? Might be able to fix it. Need something glued together? I know to use more than just superglue. Painting houses? Can do (though I hate getting on the roof). Something electrical?... I draw the line there. I don't know anything about that, or engines. So, I'm probably only a 3, maybe a 4 out of 10 on a handy-ness scale.

I feel like I'm pretty handy. Grew up with my step dad being very handy and some of it rubbed off. I probably can't do plumbing and definitely can't do electrical but I have been known to fix a thing or two around the house occasionally.

I am pretty good at arranging to have someone who knows what they are about to come in & fix the problem.

Doing it myself is an invitation to disaster.

I know how to fix minor things, so I'm not completely useless. I do understand electrical stuff a little bit, which is more than enough for me to know to call an electrician.
